It's Yuletide at Conall Castle. Christmas is quickly approaching, and Adelle is determined to make this Christmas the best one Conall Castle has ever seen, but loneliness haunts her. Love for her daughter sent her into the past, but she'd not expected the isolation she would feel. A former socialite and serial dater, she finds that her current age seems much older in the seventeenth century than it did in the twenty-first. She resigns herself to the fact that she will remain single for the rest of her days. At least until an unexpected visitor arrives at the castle... Hew Moray has spent the last twenty years all alone, only leaving his isolated home once a year to pay homage to the wife he lost long ago. When a winter storm causes him to seek shelter at the castle where his sister lives, he meets the first lass since his beloved Mae to make his heart flutter in his chest once again. Will he be able to release himself from his past grief to allow another love to enter his life? If he does, will his love be returned?
Bethany Claire is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Scottish time travel romance novels in Morna’s Legacy Series.
Bethany’s love of storytelling has been a lifelong passion but, convinced it would serve her best to follow a “conventional” career path, she tucked that passion away and went off to college.
Fast forward four years and about six major changes later, she realized the stories simply were not going to stay tucked away. Months away from graduating with a degree in elementary education, she finally realized writing was the only career that would make her happy.
So one day in the middle of a summer education course, she got up in the middle of class and walked to the registrar’s office and withdrew from the university on the spot. Since then, she has devoted herself to writing full time and is following her dreams.
This story was kind of spoiled for me because I read book three in the series before reading this one and the characters who find love in this novella are mentioned in book three. I did still enjoy it though, it was a quick fun read and it was nice to see the story of how the ended up together!
A Conall Christmas is Adelle Montgomery's story. Even though Adelle is a well-known archaeologist, she couldn't be apart from her daughter, Brielle (Bri) and to live with the people, she has been researching.
A year has passed with the Conall clan surviving the massacre, Adelle decided to make this Christmas the best ever. What she didn't plan on was falling in love again.
Hew Moray has never been a sociable person. He doesn't speak much and kept his answer short. Every year around Christams, he visited his wife's grave to pay homage to her. He didn't expect to meet Adelle or to court her.
A Conall Christmas is a very short wonderful story of Adelle and Hew. Both are older in age. Adelle does have a habit of being childish but she does mean well. She does have a habit of driving Mary crazy. Hew discovered that he has missed out in life by staying secluded. Even his sister, Mary was not able to bring him out of his isolation from people. Adelle was able to show Hew what life is about by involving him in helping with the festive Christmas events. This story brings out the best of Adelle and Hew. I am that the author wrote this story for those who are older to believe in finding second chances.
I am glad that the narrator, Lily Collingwood came back to narrate A Conall Christmas. After listening to her narrating Love Beyond Time and Love Beyond Reason, it wouldn't be the same if a different narrator was telling the story.
I received this audiobook from the author in exchange of an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in any way in writing this review.
I’m not the type that usually enjoys novellas. I tend to find them rushed, and too short to really enjoy, so when I do pick one up, it’s usually a miracle in and of itself. In this case, it’s a bigger one because I actually enjoyed the novella. I know, I was shocked too.
A Conall Christmas by Bethany Claire was well written, and even paced. I didn’t run into any typos, misplaced punctuation, improper grammar, or awkward sentence structures. The writing was fluid and clear, and the characters were both familiar from the series and endearing. I don’t often find myself reading romance fiction where the couple involved is of an older age, nor do I seek it out, but other than one small mental image I did not need, I didn’t have a problem with the romance between Adelle and Hew. The two were adorable together, and I was cheering them on throughout the story.
That being said, I can’t say that I wasn’t a little throwna by the author’s use of technology in the historical era. It seems almost too easy for things like stereo’s and batteries to be accepted openly by the cast of the Morna’s Legacy series, but I’ll let it slide, because it really was an endearing little story.
Overall, I enjoyed the novella, and it really would be a wonderful read for the holiday season—if I had actually read it during the holidays. If you’re looking for a quick read to enjoy a little closer to Christmas and you enjoy time travel romances, I suggest you pick this one up and give it a try. It has puppies.
Recommendation: Yes! Though listed as book 2.5, you can read A Conall Christmas as a standalone, I would not however, suggest it. Read it in order and you’ll understand far more of the background story.
After two novels about the younger generation, it’s finally Adelle’s turn! Hew, Mary’s brother, is on his way past Conall Castle and stops to get out of the cold. He soon bumps into Adelle. Hew’s history left him shy and tentative to form new relationships, but Adelle’s infectious attitude and modern views soon had him intrigued.
For a short story, Adelle was the perfect main character. She’s an integral part of the Morna’s series but not such a core character that she would need her own full length book. The standard “it’s a short story so the love was super instant and feel rushed” issues are there but if you’re aware and accept this the story is very enjoyable. The characters have wonderful chemistry, charming interactions, and of course the Christmas theme was delightful.
Audiobook Review: Lily Collingwood is, as always, wonderful to listen to and her voice shines in Adelle’s parts. In the first book her performance was not what I was expecting but as she’s grown into the roles her diverse voices and the level of quality has increased and constantly makes me smile while listening. The short was three hours and fit perfectly in the to and from work commute. As usual, the recording quality was great with no hum or distortion and made the entire focus on the story.
Adelle has been living with Bri and Eoin Conall ever since she came back to the fourteenth century. It is Christmas time and everyone is settled into the castle for the winter. Adelle has some ideas for the first Christmas there with the family and sets about the changing of minds about the holidays.
Hew Moray has been living alone in his cabin for decades. He only comes out to make his pilgrimage to his wife's grave. The trip usually takes a few days and he becomes stranded due to the heavy snow fall and seeks refuge at his sister's place of employment. He tries to keep his distance as he is a solitary man but the family welcomes him against his wishes.
There are many special moments in this short book that make it worth the read. Not only do you get to see All the Conall's again, but there have been some changes.
It is a lovely story of people that have lived a life and still have more to live. I enjoyed this book a lot and want to continue on in the series. Another great job, Bethany Claire. Loved the story!
I enjoyed the series, however I was disappointed in the ending of the third story. The reader is left not knowing if the couple decides to live in the past or the present. Although there is an epilogue, it leaves more questions that providing answers which kind of defeats the purpose of an epilogue to begin with.
Adorable story, but after 2 books telling me that Adelle was flighty and fancy-free I wanted to learn more about what made her want to settle down and stick to one man/ place.
A Conall Christmas is a novella that is part of a series, and I received it in a swag bag from a conference I attended, so I read it as a stand alone. I didn’t have much trouble following along. The one thing I still am not clear on is the time travel; can it be done so many times without ill effects, etc?
I loved how this novella’s main characters were a generation older than I’m used to reading about; they were grandparents! Both Hew and Adelle think that their love life is over, until they meet each other.
It’s really sweet to see how attraction between the two make them so shy.
At less than ninety pages, this Christmas novella is one to read if you’re a fan of historical romance, with a little time travel mixed in.
***I received this book for free in a swag bag from a conference I attended.***
I was so glad to pick back up on the love story of Bri and Eoin again, even though this short story is actually a love story about her Mother, Adelle and New (widower and brother to Mary who truly runs the Conall Castle and is more the Laird than the actual Laird himself in 17th Century Scotland). Add on that it's also a Christmas Story and another chapter to this time traveling series and you have the benefit of this Novella that also sets the stage for the next book in the series.
I have listened to the audiobook of this set 1 of this series and have consequently posted this review for each book in the set.
This set of books , all hinging on Morna's matchmaking and magic have been a joy to listen to. The audio rendition has added to the writer's techniques of engaging the reader with romance, drama and enchantment. I have enjoyed the 4 books in this set.
As this was a shorter book by the author, I was able to read it quickly. Was an enjoyable book to read around the Christmas holiday. Well written as the previous books of Bethany Claire. This is a continuation of book 2, Love Beyond Reason, so best to read it before reading this one so you will have some understanding of the characters and what is happening. As previous books, this is a time travel, Scottish highland novel. I enjoyed it very much. On to the next book in the series!
This is part of the Morna's Legacy Time Travel series that I love. There are around 12 books and I love all of them that include people traveling back and forth in time in Scotland. Each book is based on a certain couple helped with love by Morna but they all intact with each other. Some are based more on people moving back in time and some move forward but they all interact together.
In on a reading marathon here. Finally, a love story with seasoned lovers who bring a special element of experience. Incredible story filled with love that happens maybe more than once in a lifetime. Maybe love a second time around is even more special.
Very enjoyable read, it was great to read about older folks finding each other. I have to go back to reading my continued series book. I believe it it book 9. Thanks for taking me away on this great adventure.
A Conall Christmas: A Scottish Time Travel Romance (Morna’s Legacy Book 3)
Adelle being from the future but in the past in Conall castle with her daughter because of a witch Morna met a man. He was a loaner and shy. Thank goodness author Bethany Claire believes in witches.
Myrna’s Legacy series is well written with wonderful characters and an excellent storyline! I highly recommend it and now I must go get the next episode, enjoy!
Loved this book. I really enjoy the time travel with the romance and mystery. Great character development with both original and new characters. Look forward to remaining books in series.
Why do you have to write about horses getting hurt and killed, beheading them having them, breaking their legs! It's disgusting and so unnecessary to make a good story!
Adele breeze mother once a real Christmas for the family fortunately mirna helps them by giving them ornaments and more Adele finds romance and true love and it is the best Christmas ever
