Good tips but apparently for the wrong age group. I bought this book to help my kids transition from several different curriculum styles and homeschool (we were a military family) so they could better transition to public school after I left the military. I bought it used online and when I saw it was for college students, I was worried I'd made a bad purchase. I shouldn't have worried. This was right up their alley and helped me implement some good habits.

But it since it written for college students I wonder why it has some pretty rudimentary guidelines. There are other books that are far better for college students and that show the Cornell Note taking method or provide methods to remember citation rules. This book seems to be more for middle to high school than college.

If you were a non-traditional student or homeschooling military parent, this book can help you identify and design good habits for middle school aged kids. I would not recommend this for a college student though. There are far better books a college student will favor than this book filled with information they already know.

Great gift for a middle schooler who might want to up their academic game though!

I think the title is a little misleading, as I thought that this book was going to be focused on study skills, but it instead has (too much?) wide-ranging information about testing, note-taking, studying, talking to teachers, participating in class, etc. Although I totally agree that all of these things do make a student a better learner and test-taker, they're not all study skills. The book seems geared both toward high schoolers and college students (which are very different audiences), but it leans more heavily toward college students, in my opinion. Also, it super advocates being a suck-up to teachers, which could have been expressed differently, as the core goal was to encourage students to engage with teachers and treat them like people (which is great advice).

If you’ve never stepped foot in a classroom, this book would be beneficial. Otherwise it is all common sense stuff that is taught or learned by observation in school imo.

I like school, so naturally I read a book about studying. Many students may think they need to spend hours of cramming in order to study, but that's not necessarily true. This book provides a plethora of ways any student can improve their grades. I like the section on reviewing material and note taking skills. The book is very easy to read but I feel like it's geared more towards high schoolers, not college students. Still, if you're looking to improve your school performance, give this a try.
