Maria Kaiser was stuck in a concentration camp for five years until Emmett Ritter, a young Nazi, came along. Their heated romance is hidden in the shadows until one day some one sees them. He offers them a way out. But when they get out they wish to be back behind the bars of camp. Nowhere is safe, now that the whole country is looking for them. They cause quite a riot, a nazi and a Jew. Or they would if Maria was really a Jew and hadn’t just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. She never did know why her mother tried to hide them the day they came to her house five years ago. But she’ll soon find she didn’t want to know.
This story is well written, I'm not attacking the writing itself. Using the holocaust as a backdrop for a fictional love story is something that when done correctly could work, but when done wrong, it's an insult to the memory and legacy of the survivors and this was so wrong I quit reading to keep from exploding. When using the holocaust, even in fiction, still requires the author to be historically accurate and this book failed so miserably. Men and women did not sleep in the same barracks, for example, they were not allowed to wake up at their leasure, they were starved, tortured, beaten and murdered. .not treated as mere prisoners but treated like. .no worse than animals

Very interesting book. I find it hard to believe anything like this ever happened during WWll. hated the ending where it shows promise for another book. I like my books all in one, not searching for sequels. Over all, good for an afternoon read if you don't mind looking for book two.
