When I read four novellas-in-one book, I feel cheated on here--and like I got a great deal when I pay for the book so win, win in the end. If I could, I'd give this a 4.5 because I reserve 5's for the best of the best...but this was very good.

Just remember--I read four books here. :)

I enjoyed all four of these books because I knew literally nothing about the history of Key West before delving into these stories. I recommend reading and learning.

I was also touched by the stories themselves and respect the author's handling of the recent (in these books) American Civil War and the issue of slavery. So difficult to do well.

Four interconnected novellas set just after the civil war. The stories themselves were engaging, if not fairly predictable. There is a Christian theme throughout. In the beginning, I did not find this to be an issue (I do not identify as Christian), but by the finally story, it was heavy-handed enough to be a distraction.

This is a four part book basically. The first story was a little slow, then the next two I loved, but the fourth one was slow in parts. But overall I'm giving it a good rating because the story was good, no food language and the love story was believable.

It took me a little warming up to the author but now I am losing sleep trying to finnish it. I am dont to the last story with in the book. I felt the characters were lovable and vivid, though I felt that the author could have let me figure some things out with out spelling them out. I'm terrible at keeping secrets and suprises to myself too so I can't fault her really.

I had read it years ago and just recently read it again when I started writing my own book about historical Key West. The characters are likable and I enjoyed reading a book with Christian values but not preachy.
