"Once Upon A Kingdom" the second book in Mary Ting’s "Once Upon A Legend" series, picks up right where the first left off, and it’s been an incredible read! The story continues with Idrisa, Prince Merrick, and their friends seeking refuge with Empress Elora of the Whisterfield Empire. There, they uncover secrets about their bloodline and origins, which answer many questions from the past while introducing new mysteries.

This book expands beautifully on the fantasy world, keeping the plot clear and easy to follow, so connecting details from the first book is a breeze. I also enjoyed the addition of Ravana’s perspective—she’s a powerful and cunning witch, which made the story more intense and gave us a closer look at the dangers Idrisa and her friends face.

One of my favorite parts was when Idrisa and her companions used mystical moonstones, gifted by the Ladies of the Lake, to create their own animal companions. It was a magical and unique addition that made the world feel richer. The action scenes are full of magic, and the characters’ thought processes are more detailed, making their choices and motives easier to understand.

I also liked how strong the “bad” characters are, especially Ravana, whose schemes and strength make her a memorable villain. This book is packed with magic, battles, and surprises. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who loves immersive fantasy.

The second book in the series was Fire 🔥. It started right where the first book ended.
The story starts with the lost children and Prince Merrick taking refuge in the Empire of Whisterfield. Many secrets unfold gradually throughout the book. The budding romance between Idrisa and Merrick is both tender and passionate. Their connection adds a touch of sweetness to the darker elements of the plot.

With its fast-paced narrative and multiple POVs, this book is a delight to read. The suspense is held throughout the book, with twists and turns that you don’t see coming. The world-building is done really from the beginning. The character growth of Merrick and andIdrissa is visible, along with the other characters. Ravana's villainous nature astonished me the most.

The ending leaves me feeling that the stakes will be higher and more dangerous in the next book. I am excited to read it and hope it will be released soon!

This is a delightful read for fans of the fantasy and adventure genres.

Imagine a world where legends are real, magic flows like the wind, and treachery lurks behind every alliance. Mary Ting’s Once Upon A Kingdom is exactly that kind of fantasy adventure. Known for her richly layered worlds, Ting once again brings her readers into a realm full of mythical landscapes and vivid characters. Following her previous work in *Once Upon A Legend*, this sequel continues to deepen our immersion in a fantastical universe that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting.

In this book, we journey alongside Prince Merrick, Idris, and their companions as they flee from Dumonia, seeking refuge with Empress Elora of the Whisterfield Empire. Here, they uncover not only their world’s hidden history but also their own mysterious bloodlines. Soon, they find themselves wrapped in a dangerous game where allies and enemies emerge unexpectedly, all while preparing for Uther Pendragon’s descendant to reclaim the throne. The stakes? An epic clash with Ravana’s terrifying creatures, forged from the Tree of Life and Death. What makes this story especially intriguing is its blend of Arthurian legend with original fantasy elements, setting it apart from typical genre offerings.

Ting’s prose is evocative and imaginative, pulling you right into her intricately crafted world. Her descriptions are full of sensory details that make it easy to picture each empire’s landscapes and cities. The short, punchy chapters keep the pacing brisk, making it easy to stay invested in the unfolding action. Ting has a knack for shifting perspectives smoothly, letting us experience the plot through multiple viewpoints without confusion.

The characters are richly developed, with personalities that feel both realistic and magical. Prince Merrick and Idris are the story’s emotional anchors, but even the supporting characters, like Empress Elora and the enigmatic Ravana, have depth and intrigue. This book dives into themes of loyalty, power, and self-discovery, adding a level of relatability to the characters. Idris and her band of orphans bring a fresh twist, and their arc of courage and unity gives a sense of hope amidst the larger, darker conflicts.

Ting’s plot moves quickly, carrying readers through a series of twists and turns. While the setup might feel like classic high fantasy, the story structure has a modern touch—shifting between scenes of conflict and quieter moments of reflection. The careful organization lets readers process the layered plot points and keeps the narrative from feeling cluttered, even when it reaches its intense action sequences.

This book tackles themes that resonate on both a personal and societal level, such as discovering one’s heritage and fighting for a just cause. The allegorical touches, like the moonstones gifted by the Ladies of the Lake, symbolize hope, resilience, and the interconnectedness of life. These themes deepen the story, making it not just an adventure but also a tale with meaningful reflections on identity and destiny.

As a reader, the book felt like a roller coaster. Certain moments—like the characters’ poignant reflections on loyalty or their fear facing Ravana’s creatures—brought out real emotion. This story offers more than just thrills; it’s peppered with moments that make you pause, think, and even empathize with the characters’ journeys.

One of the book’s strongest aspects is its world-building. From the mysterious Cambria to the imposing Whisterfield Empire, each setting is vivid and adds a unique layer to the story. Additionally, the emotional depth of the characters stands out, making it easy to root for their successes and feel the weight of their struggles. Not to mention, Ravana’s army from the Tree of Life and Death is an unforgettable touch of fantasy horror!

If there’s a drawback, it might be that the many alliances and enemies introduced could be hard to track for some readers. A glossary or brief “who’s who” might have helped clarify the relationships and kingdoms involved, especially for those new to the series. A little more time fleshing out the supporting cast would add even more to the story’s richness.

This book hit all the right notes for me as a fan of fantasy with heart. I loved how Ting weaves her characters’ personal growth into the epic stakes of the story. It’s a tale that balances adventure with introspection, making it both exciting and meaningful.

Once Upon A Kingdom is a must-read for fantasy lovers who enjoy a mix of action, myth, and heartfelt themes. Ting’s immersive storytelling and layered characters make this book hard to put down, and I’m already excited to see where the story goes next. If you’re looking for a fantasy novel that combines suspense, mystery, and emotional depth, this one deserves a spot on your reading list.

It is an intense fairy tale written by Mary Ting called “Once Upon a Kingdom.” This novel incorporates both a fantasy setting along with some action and mystery too.

A story of Prince Merrick, Idras and their company moving away from the threatening territory of Dumonia for finding refuge at the warm welcome of Queen Elora among the Whisterfield empire. They later embark on an exciting ride filled with deception, falsehoods, as well as the revelation of a mystery that will leave them different forever.

Among the strengths in the book, one stands out as notable – its excellent world-building. Instead, it gives rise to an intriguing cosmos where every nation, reign and empire serves as a unique setting for the unfolding events. It is also full of suspense as the readers are made to wait as they unravel the history of the world and the real ancestry of the character which give the novel depth and intrigue.

In the course of narrating the plot, an encounter with Idris and a band of orphans in Cambria, the first Kingdom, draws neighbors of the other states allies and enemies. The other major idea is where Uther Pendragon’s heir will be selected to take his place on the throne and this will bring about significant political and magical battles between Arthur and other contestants.

An interesting element in the story involves Moonstones which the Ladies of The Lake gift men with. The monsters that the protagonists create with these moonstones add more life to an already intensified world of creation versus destruction.

The most impressive thing about “Once upon a kingdom” is the army ravana has concocted from the tree of life and death. This powerful enemy makes the plot more urgent and dangerous, leaving the readers in suspense throughout its course.

In conclusion, “Once Upon A Kingdom” is a great read that you will find hard to put down as it has many intriguing adventures, enigmatic mysteries, and a completely convincing world. Its magical setting, appealing characters, and intricate plot will satisfy all fantasy lovers. Many readers of that magical series cannot wait for a new novel by Mary Ting.

This is the story of Prince Merrick , Idris and their friends. Their travels from Dumonia to the Whisterfeild empire are full of surprises and reveals. The unexpected twists are a part and parcel of their journey. The antagonist Ravana creates a challenge for the protagonists in the form of dangerous creatures.

This is the second part of the series and building on the first part it creates a complex web of fantastical worlds with equally complex traits.

The world building in this series is layered and detailed. Elaborate descriptions of the characters as well as the landscapes makes the read engaging. Equally enigmatic are the character descriptions which do not overwhelm the reader.

The narration is smooth and portrays the different POVs aptly without losing the reader . From the struggles of all characters to their emotional aspects , the story tries to cover every domain of their nature. Every character is discussed amply without undermining any other character. Discussing loyalty , self discovery , identity and other themes through these characters , the author has developed these characters well throughout the story.

The fast reveal of fantastical elements may prove a little hard to keep up for some readers but once in the readers will be hooked to the exquisite world of the author.

Overall , this is a great read for fans of fantasy genre and a read which will make the readers captivated by the series .

“Once Upon a Kingdom” is the breathtaking second installment in Mary Ting’s Once Upon a Legend series, and it raises the stakes in every possible way.

Readers will be left speechless as it reveals long-buried secrets, continuing where Once Upon a Legend left off. Every new discovery changes the plot, creating a web of deceit, fate, and lies that clears the path to the truth.

In contrast to the first book, this one uses multiple points of view to give readers a more in-depth understanding of each character's thoughts. In addition to Idrisa and Merrick, we witness their friends and allies as they deal with moral dilemmas, loyalty conflicts, and new obstacles. The narrative is enriched by the multiple perspectives, which reveal everyone's motivation to fight and, at times, betray.

The world-building is more complex, the action is more intense, and the addition of new creatures, especially dracas turned to dragons and moonstone magic, gives the universe a sense of size and vitality. When you believe you have solved every mystery, the author introduces a new character whose appearance completely alters the plot.

Even in the midst of chaos, Idrisa and Merrick's chemistry shines through their delightful banter. Even though there are a few spelling mistakes, the captivating narrative makes it easy to overlook them.

An emotional and impactful follow-up that combines romance, suspense, and fantasy. You'll be counting down the days until the conclusion because it leaves you on a suspenseful cliffhanger.

Once Upon a Kingdom by Mary Ting is pure magic from start to finish! Picking up right where Once Upon a Legend left off, this sequel deepens the saga with even higher stakes, breathtaking twists, and emotional intensity that grips you till the end. The story follows Prince Merrick, Idrisa, and their companions as they flee Dumonia and seek refuge with Empress Elora of Whisterfield only to uncover shocking secrets about their past and the ancient powers shaping their destiny.

What makes this book truly outstanding is how seamlessly Mary Ting blends Arthurian legend with original fantasy elements. The world-building is rich and immersive, every page filled with wonder, danger, and heart. The battle against Ravana’s terrifying beasts born from the Tree of Life and Death adds a thrilling edge to the narrative. The romance between Merrick and Idrisa is beautifully written, tender, passionate, and the perfect balance to the darker themes of loyalty, betrayal, and courage.

The pacing is spot-on, the multiple POVs keep the suspense alive, and the character growth is remarkable. Merrick’s internal struggles and Idrisa’s journey of self-discovery make them deeply relatable. Ting’s storytelling sparkles with creativity, emotional depth, and vivid imagery that makes you feel every twist, betrayal, and triumph.

By the end, I was left in awe and eager for the next installment. Once Upon a Kingdom is a page-turner in every sense an epic adventure filled with magic, treachery, love, and hope. A must-read for all fantasy and adventure lovers!

The book "Once Upon A Kingdom" written by Mary Ting is the second book from the fantasy series Once Upon A Legend. This series is turning out to be an amazing read. The genre of this series is fantasy and like the first book, this book has also turned out to be an exceptional one.

The first book entails the story of Idrisa and her sword. We see her falling into so many troubles because of that sword. In this second installment, the story starts from exactly where it ends. It is easy to connect the dots as the author has kept the plotline uncomplicated and avoided unnecessary mess.

Idrisa along with Price Merrick and few of their companions took refuge with Elora, the empress of Whisterfield Empire. There they confront the truth of their bloodline and the story of their origin. This exciting truths answers many questions from the past and also brings a whole set of new ones. In the course of the story, Idrisa and her group is brought in front of a battle which they must win. It is to see what they strategizes and comes up with in order to win.

This book is truly an entertaining one. It gives a lot of room for imagination and that is exactly why I have liked reading this book so much. Mary Ting has done a good job in bringing her imaginations into paper and I am really excited to read what happens next. Absolutely recommended to all readers and especially to the fantasy lovers out there.

Great Storytelling

The cover photo оf this book caught my eye with its stunning colors and design. The title also piqued my curiosity and made me want tо read more. This іs the second book іn the 'Once Upon A Legend' series by Mary Ting, a fantasy epic that I fell іn love with after reading the first book. This book surpassed my expectations and delivered a brilliant story with enchanting characters and magical elements.

The book opens with the viewpoint оf Ravana, the vile witch who іs the ultimate enemy оf the series. She іs scheming tо unleash her horde оf monstrous creatures upon the world and destroy everything іn her path. The only hope for the world lies with Idrisa and her friends, who have been chosen by the mysterious Ladies оf the Lake tо wield the power оf the mystical moonstones. These moonstones enable them tо create their own animals that can match Ravana's beasts іn battle.

The author has a remarkable writing style that transports the reader tо a fantastical world. Her descriptions are vivid and flawless, making me feel like I was part оf the adventure. The language іs consistent with the first book, but I noticed that the author gave more depth and detail tо the characters' thoughts and emotions. I also enjoyed discovering more about the origin and history оf some оf the characters. This book was a thrilling and enjoyable read that I highly recommend tо all fantasy lovers.

I just finished reading this incredible book, and WOW, it's just awesome!

The story follows Prince Merrick, Idris, and their friends as they unwrap the truth about their world and bloodline. The plot is filled with unexpected allies, enemies, and a journey to claim the throne from Uther Pendragon's descendant.

One of my favorite parts is the intense scene with Ravana and her pet, once a man turned into a creature. The tension in the Council meeting is portrayed outstandingly, and Ravana's frustration with veiled faces adds another layer of intrigue.

The characters, especially Idris, face internal conflicts and the harsh reality of war. The emotional struggles and sacrifices they make are heart-wrenching. The author skillfully added tender moments amidst the chaos, like the scene where friends gather under the night sky.

The book has a perfect balance of action and emotion. The introduction of magical moonstones and creatures adds a fascinating element to the world-building. The dialogue is sharp, and the writing style keeps you hooked.

The review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the clever twists, like the unexpected alliance between Jediah and Pearl, leading to a tragic turn of events. The author keeps you guessing until the very end.

It is a captivating fantasy novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters, plot twists, and magical elements make it a must-read for fantasy lovers like me. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Wow! What a journey these characters are on! The storytelling is emotional and enchanting all rolled up together by action and adventure. All the characters continues on their quest to find more secrets and truths revealed. With every encounter they faced, they have grown from their experiences throughout their travels.

In this second installation of the series, Prince Merrick, Idrisa, and their companions learned so much to prepare, as much as possible, for what is to come. What a whirlwind of mystery and adventure they have embarked on which will, in the end, determine their future and fate. Come the end of this second book in the series, the intensity of the obstacles they face both emotionally and magically will help determine the fate of the realm.

I so look forward to reading the exciting and climatic conclusion to this epic fantasy adventure, and what happens to these amazing characters and their realm.

Author Mary Ting, again, captivates and enraptures readers with a magical and enthralling twist on the long time favorite King Arthur lore. Mary Ting has created a mesmerizing world and engaging complex characters.

Mary Ting's Once Upon A Kingdom is an engaging follow-up in the Arthurian-themed Once Upon A Legend series that beautifully weaves together, myth, magic and emotions. Taking place directly after the first novel, it continues the story of Prince Merrick, Idrisa, and their friends as they fly from Dumnonia and find refuge with Empress Elora of Whisterfield. It is there that they discover long-held secrets about their lineage and confront a new threat in the form of the menacing and powerful Ravana, and his monstrous creations born of Tree of Life and Death, that put everything they hold dear at risk.
Ting's world-building is beautiful, vibrant settings, original magic and terrific balance between wonder and danger. The emotional arcs of the characters; particularly Merrick's internal battle and Idrisa's developing strength–bring depth to the story. There is never a slow moment and the action sequences are reminiscent of a movie. We also have Ravana, and the guidance of her sinister presence, which keeps each victory from helping our heroes to feel too easy.
Beautifully lush, dark and emotionally rich, Once Upon A Kingdom is a captivating sequel that raises the stakes. Magical, epic, heartfelt- Once Upon A Kingdom does not stop delivering adventure, shocking turns of events, and beloved characters you will not forget. If you love fantasy and Arthurian legend, this is a series you will not want to miss.
