How to create a spectacular flowering garden throughout the year in lawns, beds, borders, boxes, containers and hanging baskets This glorious book shows how bulbs can be used to transform your garden, not just in spring but for every season. A fascinating overview of the history of bulbs is followed by a comprehensive practical section.
Clear and helpful step-by-step techniques show how to plant bulbs in beds and borders, beneath trees, in grass, and in different tubs, window boxes and hanging baskets. There is expert information on feeding, watering, deadheading, propagation and overwintering, as well as how to identify and deal with the different pests and diseases.
An easy-to-use bulb directory presents the best bulbs for hue, scent, shape and different soil and climate. An expert gardening reference to help you choose and plant an array of reliable and beautiful bulbs. Practical advice on growing and caring for bulbs, including over-wintering, propagation, and general tasks such as dead-heading, watering and feeding. Includes an easy-to-use photographic directory of bulbs, with detailed advice on key varieties and their growing requirements.
I can’t find a single thing to redeem this book. The bulbs featured are very limited, with glaring omissions from the range of bulbs commonly sold in British garden centres, DIY stores and supermarkets. The growing instructions are poor to laughable. The photography or editing thereof is fuzzy, poorly cropped and does not show useful features of the plant concerned. You could have a more enjoyable read simply reading a catalogue, and learn more too.
