If there were a "ten," I would give this book a "ten star." I read it a number of years ago, but wanted to read it again when I was called as our LDS Ward Primary President a couple of weeks ago. WOW!!! Not only will it be a source of guidance in my church calling, but it will also be a guide for me as I serve as the Ex. Dir./Principal of Esperanza, our new charter school. I highly recommend this book for anyone in a leadership position (and really that is all of us!).
I just read this book again 3-05-13. It is just a wonderful resource and handbook as I strive to grow into my leadership responsibilities.
sheesh. Finally! It takes me awhile to read a sunday book when we have afternoon church.
This was....fine. Definitely written from a woman's perspective and very geared towards those sisterly callings. I learned that I need to be a better delegator, BIG time. And I realized that it will probably be a sob-fest when I am released from my current leadership position. I do recommend this, would be a handy read for a person who is suddenly an in-charge at church and wonders where to start (like I was, 12 months ago).
I took my time with this because I wanted to incorporate her ideas into my life as best I could while I read. This book is broken up into pretty short chapters and each addresses an aspect of leadership. I thought she did a great job providing examples that are universally applicable. She had some solid ideas on overarching leadership principles but she also included practical advice. Her upbeat, positive personality comes through in her writing which was encouraging. A good book.
This book was amazing! I took it nice and slow because I wanted to soak in all the wealth of information. I know I will have to read it again to get more of it in my brain permanently. I loved that it was specifically geared toward women leaders in the church. This book had excellent spiritual insights, as well as practical applications. It also made me realize how FAR I have to go to becoming a good leader. But, I am working on it!
Read this 10 years ago and decided I needed to read this again. I am taking my time, marking, practicing, and trying my best to apply what is in the wealth of these pages. I went as far as to purchase other books she has mentioned in this book. Some even for my Sweetheart who is serving as counselor in our bishopric while I serve as Primary President.
Fantastic book on women and leadership callings. I reread it when I was unexpectedly released from a calling and it gave me great comfort to know that Heavenly Father knows our trials and loves us regardless of what calling we hold.
This had a lot of great pointers for leadership, specifically in religious settings. I appreciated all of the real-life examples and the way it was presented in an approachable way.
So nice to hear the voice of Sister Kapp again, I served in the YW when she was president, and always learned so much from her. Niece I’m back in the YW leadership and have really enjoyed and learned from her wisdom again, through this book.
