I'm going to be honest here, this book was slow to draw me in but once I was a quarter of the way in I was hooked. I enjoyed the story and loved the romance involved. It was a nice clean romance.
Mara is an actress who wants to be on Broadway. She is willing to work hard to make her dreams come true. Her best friend and her BFF's brother are very supportive of her while her boyfriend is not much for pursuing one's dreams but rather what will bring in the big bucks.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good clean romance.

Big Apple Dreams is a solid dream-following romance with a little angst splashed in. While the book stays pretty YA, I felt the story held up and kept the reader interested straight through the end.

Marama is leaving Arizona (my home town-yay) for the Big Apple, chasing her dream of becoming a performer on Broadway. This is something that Mara has planned her entire life around and nothing is going to stop her. When she arrives in New York, Mara finds her self a place to live and a "real job" until she can land a part in a show. While working a job that pays the bills for now, Mara meets Lizzie and they hit it off instantly. New York is an expensive place to live, so Mara and Lizzie become roommates and Evan is introduced into the mix. More about him later.

Chris Williams is a native New Yorker, he meets our rising star Mara and feels an instant attraction to her. Chris has a pretty high profile job, maybe not his dream job, but one that pays the bills quite nicely. Chris and Mara start to date slowly and he shows her the finer side of his city. They seem to be the perfect couple on the outside, however Chris is a bit more materialistic than Mara and doesn't share her enthusiasm of chasing her dream.

Evan is Lizzie's brother who just happens to be in the business of Broadway and senses the passion Mara feels about landing a part in a show. Evan has some girl problems and starts to hang with Mara and Lizzie more and more. Unlike Chris, Evan is helping Mara bring her dream to reality and possibly crossing some lines.

I loved the relationship between Evan and Mara, he seemed to be able to bring his real personality out around her, one that shares her love of the theater. Chris I could take or leave, the more I read about him the more you see that typical New Yorker stereotype in his actions. He wasn't the guy for Mara which I could sense pretty quickly, but then he would do something to make me waver on my opinion. I couldn't wait to see how it was going to turn out with Mara, Chris and Evan, although I was team Evan all the way!

The book is written with a love for New York and the workings of Broadway, and that is what stood out about it for me. There are many details about auditions and call backs that drew me into Mara's world and how tough it actually is to achieve this dream. I would consider Big Apple Dreams a younger audience read (I am 41), however if you are in need of a break from the chiseled, tattooed motorcycle guy or MMA fighter, this is a refreshing, well written love story.

I had to roll my eyes more than once at her thought that she could just get an actual acting job on Broadway as soon as she got there, especially without a degree. But it did reflect real life better when she struggled through audition after audition (though I still wondered how she could afford an apartment in the heart of New York City on just a waitress salary). I did love her determination, even when other people questioned her calling, and told her that waitressing and acting weren’t real jobs. And I absolutely adored Mara’s experiences in New York City. And, yes, Evan is definitely an eye-candy draw and a guy that any girl into musicals would want for a boyfriend. I would easily recommend this (and already have) to any of my friends into acting. I thought it was a fun read (though felt a bit long) even with it being a departure from my usual paranormal fare. I picked this up because I’ve picked up other novellas by Kamery Solomon and I’m glad that I did, and definitely will be seeking out more by her.

I was gifted a copy of Big Apple Dreams. This was my first Kamery Solomon read.

Mara heads to NYC to try to follow her dream of performing on Broadway. She finds herself torn between her real estate broker boyfriend and the feelings that she's having for her best friend's brother - the Broadway stage hand/aspiring playwright. All while working to make her big city dreams come true.

I enjoyed the behind the scenes look at Broadway and the struggles of those trying to break into that world. The story was sweet and well written. A good choice for readers that prefer the Young Adult genre.

Such a sweet love story! First of all, I'm a huge fan of NYC and love the fact that Broadway was literally center stage in this book. Mara was a great main character, but I always tend to fall for the secondaries..... Like EVAN! Lizzy also makes a great BFF. Chris? Wish she would have thrown him off the Brooklyn Bridge! Ugh! Add a cameo from Lacey and Belinda and this book is set!

I loved the original version, but now it's new and improved. A new cover, title and 15,000 more words have just elevated this story to be so much more than the original.
