From Award-Winning Thriller Writers Brett Battles and Robert Gregory Browne
After an op in Istanbul goes sour, all Alexandra Poe wants is a little down time, and a chance to finally sell off the family vacation home in Key Largo which carries too many painful memories.
Instead, she finds herself on a private Bahamian island, working with Deuce and Cooper to relieve a human rodent of some very sensitive codes, and to take down one of the world's most notorious terrorists. Just another job for Stonewell International. Or is it?
What Alex doesn't realize is that she's about to get caught up in a twisted maze of shifting allegiances that forces her to face those painful memories head on--even if it's the last thing she ever does...
Brett Battles is a NEW YORK TIMES bestselling and Barry Award-winning author of forty novels, including the Jonathan Quinn series and its Excoms spinoff, the Project Eden series, and the time bending Rewinder series. He’s also the coauthor, with Robert Gregory Browne, of the Alexandra Poe series. He is one of the founding members of Killer Year, and is a member of Mystery Writers of America and International Thriller Writers. He lives and writes in Ventura County, California.
This series is built on a great female protagonist. Takedown digs more deeply into a mysterious family secret that isn't fully explored by the end of the book. There are hints about book #3 that I hope are one day realized.
Okay, I have no idea when the next book will be out but the ending of this sucked. Not really a cliffhanger but some unanswered questions. A video of her father telling her he's going to answer all her questions then, "Alexandra Poe will be back." That's it? That's how it ended.
This one was a little more believable than the first book was. Alexandra, Deuce and Cooper had to get some sensitive codes that the bad guy was selling to another bad guy. Which they did but not without Alexandra getting herself shot.
This was better than the first book by far.
No romance and no sex and the F-bomb was used 10 times.
As to the narration: Abby Craden did an excellent job on the voices and read with wonderful emotions.
Amazing thriller, second one in the Alexandra Poe series. Sure wish they'd write the third one. Still a lot of mystery to reveal. Of course, this is part of the thrill reading her story. Great characters and great storytelling.
Unbelievable how much the plot of this book takes twists and turns, it is well thought out and written. Add to this a bunch of colorful secondary characters and you have one heck of a read (or listen).
Another wow! This is the second book in the Alexandra Poe series. Wonderful characters that I grew to love in these two books! Twists, turns, surprises, and a fast paced page turner from start to finish! Just when I thought I knew what was coming next - everything changed! An outstanding read! A masterfully written novel by Brett Battles and Robert Gregory Browne. Two books to add to your reading list! 👍🏼
27-2020. Another snappy read from Mr Battles. I don’t have as good a time with Ms. Poe and her pals as with some of Battles’ other main character series. She does good in this one and fights a good fight, but it seems just a bit too easy. I’ll happily await other Battles books, but I think I’m done with the Poe series.
So Alex is beautiful, an expert in martial arts, and quite intelligent. Too bad that she constantly plays above her skill level by not sharing with her team. It might to some be a decent plot ploy but me - it just annoys me no end.
This Brett Battles book was not up to his usual standards. It was too disjointed and difficult to swallow or follow. I will read the next Alex Poe hoping for better. If you’re into this Alex Poe series you’ll understand what I mean
A decent read though at times Alexandra makes really poor decisions. Her team is put in danger several times just because she can't control her emotions.
This is the second book written by Robert Gregory Browne and Brett Battles in the Alexandra Poe Series.
I liked Alex in POE--the first book in the series. In TAKEDOWN, I liked her even more. She’s a kick ass heroine with depth. Alex is more than a strong, courageous heroine with a lot of stamina and intelligence. In TAKEDOWN the layers of her personality are slowly peeled away, allowing the reader to connect with her even more as we see her emotional side and feel her vulnerability.
The other characters are also three dimensional and well developed, and are not extra’s in this story, they are critical to the story line and move the plot along at a good pace.
The book is loaded with witty dialogue, suspense, twists, heightened tension and all the elements that make a thriller a great read, challenging the reader to figure out the outcome.
As in the first book in the series, the authors’ voices meld into one, so the reader is given a great read packed with; adventure, conspiracy, realistically written action, riveting prose and a book that leaves the reader wanting more.
I am looking forward to the next Alexandra Poe thriller.
The Poe boys (Robert Gregory Browne and Brett Battles) are back with the second installment in the Alexandra Poe series. I really liked the first one, and I have to say this one is even better. The pacing is letter-perfect and the action scenes are crisper and more focused.
Like the writers of a great TV show, the authors do a good job of weaving the plot of this "episode" in with the overall story arc of Alexandra Poe's search to find out the truth about her missing father and murdered mother, and like great TV, the end of this story leaves you gasping to find out what happens next time. Recommended.
Ok I'm hooked on Alex and her team. Cooper and Deuce even Warlock are funny and tough.. so Mr. Browne and Mr. Battles where's book 3? I read fast so you'll have to write even faster!
Great sequel & better than the first book. This book gave the characters much more dimension, as a reader it makes me more invested. Looking forward with anticipation to reading the next one.
I love Brett Battles' series' and characters, but I'm having a hard time connecting with Alex Poe. I'll still give the next book a try when it comes out though.
I like these characters. The story is engaging but not surprising. Not overly violent. I'll read the next in the series next month. This series is my current Prime Lenders selections
