Lena Martin never wanted to be a witch. She loved her everyday life, working odd hours and helping her best friend's side business with her ex-boyfriend. Reminders of her inherent destiny spike when she remembers the love spell she cast in a moment of weakness a year ago. She only used her powers that one time, but she's not a witch. Arthur Prince first sees Lena at her grandmother's funeral. A connection sparks. Their paths cross again, and he warns her against using witchcraft. Arthur works at his family's fortune-telling shop, so he has some knowledge, but he doesn't know everything. Even with Arthur's help, Lena struggles to find peace with her growing power. Time is running out. She must discover who she is or else forfeit her powers to those who want them.

Lena has always had magic but run from it. Her grandmother had it. After a weird visit at her grandma's funeral, Lena runs into Arthur Prince. He wants her or her magic. As their passion ignites, they struggle to work through the issues together. In the end, another force is stopping them.

An interesting take. I loved the witchcraft and the relationship development. And the twist at the end!

DNF got to chapter 10 and I couldn't handle the lack of flow any more. It feels very staccato and I kept getting frustrated with how the main character just hops and skips from one thought to another. The conversations weren't realistic and kept throwing me off. I wanted it to be more enjoyable.

No Witch Here by Melanie Hoffer was the perfect book to read during the Halloween season. I especially enjoyed looking for references to my favorite witch-themed movies and legends. Lena is a heredity witch in denial. She’s a smart, sarcastic, computer programmer with insomnia who just wants to be left alone by the spirit world. I loved how the author was able to weave magic with modern conveniences like social media, cell phones, and rideshares. The modernization of the character’s resources is what sets this book apart from all the other witch/denial-of-powers books out there.

…and Arthur the love interest. Wowsa. Morally grey, cryptically powerful, and hotter than the flames he shoots from his hands, Arthur landed a spot on my book-boyfriend list. Hoffer excels at writing spice and this book is her best yet. His support of our heroine is hot & cold, but ultimately they come together…right before the cliffhanger ending. I can’t wait to read the second half of this duet because I want to know which side of Arthur’s personality and allegiances wins his heart.

Overall, I highly recommend No Witch Here be added to your Halloween classics list that you read each scary season. It is for any hopeless romantic, looking for spicy scenes and witchy vibes.

I really enjoy books where a character comes into their magical powers. Add some steam and witty internal dialogue, and I am all in. Not only does No Witch Here have all of this, but the heroine is loaded with sass. I just love me some sass. If you like new adult magical tales with some series steam, and enjoy cliffhangers, give this book a go.

So good! It constantly had me going, the ending almost fully threw me. This world of magic really feels dangerous the whole way through the book. I can't wait for the sequel! <3
