There is one constant in life---suffering. And suffering has a way of whittling everything down to the basics; it strips away our wants and leaves us with our needs. When we suffer, we ask the essential How do I keep going? Can I do another day? Where am I going to get the strength to make it through this? "One foot in front of the other" is no cliche---it's a call to courage. In a world that holds you down and resists your forward momentum, the slow shuffle ahead is nothing short of heroic. To make it in this life, we must keep moving, keep pushing, keep going. You see, endurance is not a luxury; it's a necessity. We simply don't make it without it. Endurance is made of rugged, gritty, weathered faith. These 50 meditations provide anchor points for this journey as well as fuel for the road ahead.
The author captured my attention from the first page. We all go through a lot in this life- grief, loss, pain, hurt and sometimes wonder how we can go on any more. The author doesn’t minimize the pain that we go through but points out through each devotion that God is there for us, He wants us to turn to Him no matter deep the pain. One thing that really made me think was when he stated that doubt is not the opposite of fear but one element on the road to faith. In quoting Herman Hesse, he stated “faith and doubt go hand n hand, they are complementary. One who never doubts will never truly believe.” I had never thought about it like that. Another thing the author pointed out was that “if God can create something out of nothing, if He can speak a fish into being, then he can certainly transform the disaster of my life…” This is a powerful book and I highly recommend it. The book will challenge you no matter where you are at in your faith. Great Book.
I enjoyed learning more about God from the Bible stories. It was comforting to know that God can make something out of nothing.
The book starts, “There is one constant in life—suffering.” I think terrible events can make life feel like this, but I don't think everyday life is suffering. So many things are a privilege in daily life, i.e., it is a privilege to be able to work hard or have a job to work hard for, etc. Having a decent life is a privilege denied to many.
“The righteous falls seven times and rises again” (Prov. 24:16). Many of the stories in the book encourage the reader to live according to this wisdom. The reader is motivated to endure!
The book is recommended to Christians for hope and inspiration.
A well-researched book that will encourage you when going through trials and challenging times in your life. It takes on the topic of hard times viewed from various angles. I recommend this read to every Christian, no matter the time he is going through. This read will prepare you if trials come to your life and will let you see them in a biblical and godly way.
