A Lighthouse of Ocean and Fog

Rate this book
A feel-good sisterhood saga about mothers, daughters, and friends who need a new beginning!

The old family lighthouse on Mendocino Island, abandoned years ago by the owner, is no longer functional. When a stranger shows up in Mendocino Cove and claims to be the son of one of the island's oldest families and heir to the beloved landmark, Billie sets out to discover the truth. Jenny finds an old journal and solves the mystery of her mother's disappearance, Aunt Georgie finally faces her feelings of guilt, Faye takes care of her changing circumstances, and Ava makes a new life with her husband and daughter! This is the fourth book in a heartwarming friendship saga about sisters of the heart who are ready to start over. Northern California, with its stunning coastline, charming vineyards, and majestic redwood forests full of ferns and secrets, provides a gorgeous setting for dreams, hopes, and second chances. Each book in this feel-good series follows one of the friends—Jenny, Faye, Ava, and Billie—with a recurring cast of sons and daughters, old friends, and new neighbors!

my least favorite so far

It was pretty good, but a little too over the top in the lovey dovey and some of it just didn’t seem realistic to me. There were times the author forgot what was written and so contradicted herself at time. I couldn’t reconcile Aunt Georgie’s age. I believe I read there was barely twenty years between her and her niece Jenny In book 1 Jenny was in her mid forties. And the way Aunt Georgie talked about her age, knees etc that was close, but in this book a year later she wasn’t even 60 yet. But maybe I missed something. Also Jenny’s son honed and was going to visit soon but that was all we heard about that. He never did arrive. Still good to visit Mendocino Cove. And I’ll be reading the next one.

Loved this one!
We meet the keeper of the lighthouse on a tour that Jenny and Bille go on on Mendocino Island. Neil. From a long standing island family. He has a fundraiser for the lighthouse to get a new light. All the girls go and dancing for all. Billie is kinda smitten with Neil and he is too. Billie is dealing with her ex moving to Mendocino with the girlfriend.
Aunt Georgie finally makes it to the island. They are all helping her to get over the memories of the loss of her sister here on the island. She blames herself for her death. Jenny takes her back to the forest where Willow was found. They meet up with Neil and he takes them to the lighthouse, Jenny pulls out a book and it’s Neil’s father’s journal. Neil and Jenny read the book together she wants to know what happened to her mother as Ray Neil’s father was the one to find her mom.
As they read it was revealed that Ray and Willow was in a relationship, they got into a fight and he left to sail. Willow came up pregnant and told no one who the father was. He had a son Neil…when he came back after 15 yrs. They rekindle their love and he had asked her to meet him in the forest to ask her to marry him. When she was lost. He searched for weeks, he knew she was there somewhere. He found her, was devastated he left to sail again. The journal revealed they were siblings. They were so excited as the little family is growing.
Aunt Georgie is going to give the hotel to Jenny and Audrey can open the hotel.

Wonderful story. Georgie finally returns to Mendocino Cove and the hotel, still harboring the feelings of guilt and inadequacy regarding Willow. Billie finally meets a new man. Of course there is the continuing lives of the rest of the friends. These characters will draw you right into their lives and you can’t wait to see what lies in store for them. I love the series and really look forward to the next book.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.

Loved reading more in this enchanting series. What began with 2 friends who stayed in Mendocino Cove and then grew into 3, then 4 girlfriends from childhood reconnecting… and then Jenny & Jon, then Faye & Gabe, then Ava & Bruno. Have loved seeing these character’s stories grow. Now along comes Neil and boy! I didn’t see that twist coming. But LOVED it! Can’t wait for the next book.

very Enjoyable!

Sweet, sweet story of people that loved where they lived, loved their family and friends. There was anger due to cheating on a wife , divorce and different conflicts. But all was a good read.

What a lovely, moving addition to this series! I so enjoyed the writing, the beautifully described setting, and the subtle, nuanced character development!
Life is never dull in Mendocino Cove, as Jenny, Faye, Ava, and their loved ones can attest to. Certain family secrets are revealed, and we finally learn more about the tragic fate of Jenny’s mother. There are some new arrivals at Mendocino Cove, Aunt Georgie for one, yay! And also a rugged, handsome stranger, who takes up residence in the oh-so-romantic lighthouse and runs afoul of Billie almost instantly. Sparks fly as these two grudgingly, at first, get to know and appreciate each other. Billie also has to deal with a visit from someone from her past, which dredges up old hurts and insecurities. My heart ached for her, but she bravely and gracefully handles everything life throws at her.
At the end of the book, we are left with much to look forward to and still discover in the amazing Mendocino Cove. And I for one can’t wait!
