This very suspenseful novel is better than "Black and Blue" by Anna Quindlen, "Kiss Mommy Goodbye" by Joy Fielding, even better than my two favorites "Strange Fits of Passion" by Anita Shreve and "Sleeping with the Enemy" by Nancy Price.

Other reviewers have written about the plot. I just would like to write about the novel locations.
Nancy Baker Jacobs flees with her little abused daughter from her violent husband and ends up in Southern California.
The climax of the book takes place at Pfeiffer State Park on their parking lot.
In November 2019 when my husband wanted to play golf at Pebble Beach, we extended our trip in order to visit Pfeiffer State Beach and Keyhole rock, all part of Big Sur and breathtakingly beautiful.
If I wouldn't have read this book, I never would have found out about this stunning area.
Thank you, Nancy Baker Jacobs!

The subject matter is hard to read but this was a good thriller.

Allison has taken her daughter Stephanie and run after she loses her case in court against her husband. He is a lawyer in the small town and part of the good 'ol boy network so she has no choice. She gets into the underground where she and Stephanie have to change their appearance and names and disappear.

It's a hard life and she is afraid that she may soon be found.
