Mr. Ball is back in this Jump-Into-Chapters sequel to the hilarious Mr. Ball Makes a To-Do List.
The Jump-Into-Chapters series was created to fill a gap: kids need to read longer books before they read text-heavy chapter books. This sequel to Mr. Ball Makes a To-Do List features a particular brand of silliness that kids love-Mr. Ball is likable and hilariously optimistic but also reflects real-kid concerns and feelings.
Had to read this, as I'm a sucker for odd kid's tales featuring animals and inanimate objects that talk. The Mr. Ball in this story is a fun loving tennis ball creature that has wild adventures with his animal buddies. Today he seeks to tame a pet lion, but the nuttiness doesn't end there. Failing with the frisky mini-lion king he tries for something simpler: a canary in a tree, more like a feathery yellow blob. He screws this up as well, but does end up in the nest with the baby bloblings. He decides to take one as a tame pet. Not a wise move. Mama Bird Blob finds out and holds him hostage, so he becomes one of the family. It's up to his animal buddies to rescue him and get him home in time for a party involving hot dogs. As discussed, it's odd and nonsensical, which makes the book more fun. I read this not even knowing it's a second book, so I'm looking forward to reading the first one. Ball to the wall fun! Four stars The Ball ROCKS!!!
Mr Ball gets mistaken for an egg. Much, much, simpler than something like Captain Underpants but a nice intro to more of a graphic novel format.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
My daughter and I read this book and she really enjoyed it. It is a graphic novel, which is her favorite, and she likes that the main character was a ball because he reminded her of an emoji. She loves fiction and this is a real easy book to get through.
This one was a little better than *Andy Also*, but not much. However, I do think young children will enjoy both.
This centers around a smiley face with arms and legs (Remember the Mr. Happy & Friends series from the 80s? Those were better.), who is unhappy about the circus at first, but becomes so happy that he wants to recreate it by taming wild animals. He tries this to no avail, and ends up "taming" his pet cat, "Ms. Kitty Cow", who is dressed as a lion.
Not quite as exciting as the first one but Mr. Ball is back and awesome! Engaging text to help kids learning to read along with the bright colors, bold illustrations and fun characters-- will surely keep Mr. Ball fans happy!
Part of the Jump into Chapters series which I'm discovering and loving! Graphic novels with very kid-friendly storylines, somewhat easy-read text with illustrations that support the words making it easier to predict what the hard words might be. Mr. Ball has some great adventures!
A fun and goofy graphic novel just right for kids reading beginning reader books or bridge books. It's got lots of playful appeal, and the print is big with mostly uncomplicated vocabulary.
My 6 year old son, who isn’t a big reader, really enjoyed this book. I probably only enjoyed it two stars worth, but a book that keeps my kid reading deserves at least 3.
