The Conservative Revolution

Rate this book
An unapologetic advocate for mainstream values, Cory Bernardi presents a bold vision for a stronger nation that is founded on conservative principles. He takes the fight to the political left and calls for an overturning of the existing moral relativism that threatens Australia's way of life. Bernardi argues that the best way to tackle this threat is to protect and defend the traditional institutions that have stood the test of time, something that he has done during his time as a senator in the Australian Parliament. Bernardi's work courageously promotes the conservative cause and sets out a path to a better Australia through a commitment to faith, family, flag, freedom and free enterprise. This volume reminds us that conservative principles - not the populist whims of the left - generate enduring stability, success and strength. That is why we need a conservative revolution.

Everything that I utterly abhor, Cory Bernardi stands for. He has disgusting outlooks on same-sex couples - likening homosexuality to bestiality. Abortion - it seems Mr Bernardi feels women use it as an abhorrent form of birth control' and those who advocate women having a choice on abortion are "pro-death."

His opinion on anyone who has an ecological conscience, immigrants, blended families, or single parent families pre-dates Victorian ideas - you are all, apparently, inferior. That his conservatism is to the point of exclusion of anyone and everyone that doesn't fit his narrow world view makes me ashamed he is an Australian and an elected politician.

I want to add a personal note. One of my best friends raised three children for the greater part of their lives on her own, after circumstances forced her to do so. They are now 26, 24 and 22 and the most responsible (young) adults with great jobs and lives - two girls, one boy. No promiscuity, no arrests or jail amongst them. How's that for single parent families who do not fit the 'high promiscuity/criminality' Conservative Revolution outlook of yours Mr Bernardi?

Don't bother reading, my brain hurts.

Finally finished this. It's been over a year and I don't know why it took so long. It's not a heavy complex book. Just thought provoking.
I liked the view of conservatism it presents. A kind that figures out what made the past good and actively seeks to hold onto it or get back to it. It's not opposed to innovation if it has definite proven benefits. And despite what some might say, it's not extreme. It doesn't seek to shrink the government to nonexistence or be coercive.
I especially like this explanation of freedom: "Freedom... is something other than the unfettered ability to do as one pleases. Freedom must also contain within it some framework within which individuals can be free without interfering with the freedom of their neighbours. Paradoxically, profound freedom therefore necessarily requires some sort of restriction."
It's a good book.

I thought it was really important to read this book as a South Australian and as someone who finds pride in hearing from all sides despite knowing it'll be uncomfortable or confronting.

The content... some of it is quite hard to stomach and harder to wrap your head around than most things I've read.
But there are large parts of it that are well-written despite that and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to understand the Liberal party and South Australian politics more.

An important book but a bit dry. A fantastic call to arms in reclaiming what made Australia great in the first place.

A great book!
Mandatory reading for all students of politics and philosophy. I would recommend every voter in Australia consider the logical discussions within.

I highly recommend 'The Conservative Nation' to those searching for true strong leadership in an Australia under attack from various groups.

Rare to find a politician serving our nation with integrity and pragmatism. Cory seeks to uphold the core western values of freedom, democracy and equality.
