EVERWOOD FALLS… a small supernatural community tucked up in the Colorado Rockies where witches, werewolves and vampires can live without fear of discovery, and those with curses they can’t control are sent to keep the existence of magic from being revealed to Mundanes.

Once one of thousands of angels who fought against the Underworld at the command of the Archangels, Lucien Girard had his wings broken as punishment for defying angelic law. His crime? Trying to change the fate of the human woman he’d fallen in love with. Centuries later, he bears the curse the Archangels handed down... To fall in love again and again, each time with a new woman who shares the face of the soulmate he failed to save thousands of years before. When Dr. Isabel Romero moves to Everwood Falls, Lucien vows to stay as far away from her as possible, not knowing any other way to prevent her death like all the others who have come before her. But someone from Isabel’s past is stalking her and Lucien can’t simply leave her to her fate. He knows this time will be no different. And yet he refuses to let her go.

Dr. Isabel Romero lives with guilt for the people she’s harmed. The night she died, her life was saved by Costa, a vampire who changed her into one of the undead. But becoming a vampire meant she had to leave her parents behind, only visiting once per year according to vampire law so no one would notice that she isn’t aging. Gifted with a rare healing magic, she saves lives that are beyond her abilities to heal as a doctor. Moving to Everwood Falls is supposed to be a fresh start, but her magic has a dark side and someone from her past is hunting her. The last thing she wants is to be responsible for someone else getting hurt, and that means she can’t allow anyone to get close to her. But she’s going to need Lucien Girard’s help if they’re going to catch the person harming patients in Everwood Falls before someone is seriously hurt.

With a herd of enchanted elk, carnivorous spruce trees, and sentient pumpkins that stalk the local landscaping, Everwood Falls is a quirky mountain town where scales and fur mean found family.

"No one cared if a fae fell in love with a yeti, or a vampire married a gargoyle as long as they didn’t post about it on TikTok (the new bane of the Magic High Council’s existence)"

Just like Light my Pyre, Fallen was absolutely delightful. The humor reminds me a bit of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in that dry yet sharp delivery. It was the super cozy book I needed to break a nasty reading slump. Really solid contemporary world-building, with all the major fantasy races properly explained in our own world, with all sorts of various rules/councils/etc. Its amazing how much information is given despite there being no info dumps. A very complex system of fantasy creatures/races naturally fall into place.

No one writes pets better than Kat. Light my Pyre had Daisy, who I still think about on a regular basis despite the fact I read it a year ago. Fallen has Sunshine the cat, who I immediately loved. I also appreciate the previous cast making appearances, and the setup for book 3. Anyone who enjoyed the first book will be happy here. Really excited to see how it all ends.

I’m now eagerly anticipating book 3!

Fallen by Kat Kinney (Everwood Falls book 2)

5 stars

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of this book (ever since the first one came out!) and it did not disappoint. Fallen is a wonderfully cosy supernatural romance with a real small town feel to it! I adored the description throughout and felt as though I was in Everwood Falls (I’d really like to move there, please). It was so cosy and wintery.

Lucien and Isabel’s romance was truly special. Lucien has been falling in love with Isabel and losing her for the last 2,000 years. Now she’s in Everwood Falls and is being stalked by somebody. Her life is in danger and Lucien isn’t sure he can save her. He hasn’t managed it yet, so why would this time be different?

There’s a mystery at the heart of this book - who is stalking Isabel? Can they get to the bottom of it and save her life, or is her fate already sealed?

I loved the twists in the book that kept me on my toes. It was a fantastic read with lots of different elements. I can’t wait for book three!

These genres are not my usual reads, but author Kat Kinney does a great job of drawing readers into this eclectic, cozy fantasy setting, full of unusual characters and iconic creatures. This one, as many of her books, showcases angels, witches, vampires, magical plants and of course, some interesting romance. Despite this not being my favorite type of fantasy, Kinney's grasp of language and her cleverly crafted world-building really bring her stories to life. Everwood Falls is a complex place, beneath the simple veneer, but nothing can compare to the tragic consequences of Lucien and Isabel's forbidden relationship. The book is fast paced and the tragic love story reminds one of Romeo and Juliet, but with many more supernatural twists and turns, on a whole different level. Highly recommended for those who like cozy fantasy, romance, or angelic/vampire creature features. Oh, and pets too!

I’m a huge Kinney fan and have read every book in this author’s backlog, to date. So I was definitely excited to get my hands on an early copy of FALLEN. I wasn’t disappointed! It has all the charm and coziness of book 1, and honestly? That’s my favorite thing about this particular series. Her Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series is gritty and spicy, her YA fantasy exciting and full of adventure, but this? This is fresh pasta and cheesy bread, hot cocoa and fudge, all with a side of sweet romance and paranormal quirkiness. And of course, my favorite characters—the ever present animal sidekicks. Oh, and Lucien and Isabel are pretty great too. ;)

I received a free copy for review and am leaving my thoughts voluntarily.

Okay, I definitely need to read Book 1 because this setting is *chef’s kiss* A cozy little town where magical creatures live side by side in harmony with humans? Where your baker might be a werewolf, your doctor’s vampire and your next door neighbor a witch? With fallen angels, demons, animals shifters but everyone just wants to get through their work day? I freaking love this idea.

The politics of each race and how it interacts and affects the others is so great. I love that each one is different but that even the bureaucracy of angels is subject to stubborn old folk clinging to tradition. Seeing our characters try to maneuver it is a joy!

Then we have Lucien and Isabel. God, I love these two and I would absolutely commit a crime to keep them together. I am an absolute sap for “reborn to fall in love again” and the author runs with this concept with wonderful abandon!

It’s a beautiful wintery, Christmas setting that will leave you wanting to curl up by a fire with a mug of hot chocolate.

I am off to catch up on the other books!

This book was a little slow on the uptake. I found myself falling for Lucian and Isabel as I continued to read. I loved the plot twists. Lucian was totally selfless in his love for Isabel but was he? And Sunshine... I need a liger. This book was not spicy if that is what you are looking for this is not the book for you. Yes it has great chemistry but no spice.

Well worth the wait

I’ve been anxiously awaiting this installment, and it most definitely did not disappoint. I absolutely love the collage of diverse magical characters! The author has a tremendous gift for describing delicious food, and I almost find myself drooling at times as I read. I can’t recommend this series enough, and I am very excited to read the next one when it is released.

Well-Written Supernatural/Paranormal Romance

While I'm not really a fan of vampire stories, I do love paranormal cozy mysteries. This actually feels like more than just your run-of-the-mill, quirky paranormal cozy. It has a lot more depth and even more creatures and beings than we typically see in paranormal cozies. This doesn't just have the standard wolf shifters, witches, and vampires. It also has angels, demons, gargoyle shifters, and so much more. The story actually reaches its hand far back in time, as we learned the fallen angel hero made a mistake back in 79 AD when he fell in love with and found his fated mate at Pompeii just before Vesuvius wiped that city off the map. The archangels, his bosses, have very strict rules about what the garden-variety angels below them can do, and falling in love with a mortal female is against the rules. So they break every bone in his wings, and for the next 2,000 years, the hero angel and his mortal mate are punished repeatedly. How so? Not only does the pain in his broken wings increase and make him weak, she reincarnates over and over, their love is rekindled each time, but she always dies a premature death in his arms—no matter how they conspire to change her fate.

And it's all about to happen again in modern times! Will they be able to rewrite their story? Will the archangels rethink their rules? Seeing how the hero treated the heroine was so sweet and touching. You could sense how much he felt for her, even though she is very resistant to him at first as she has no memory of her past lives when she fell in love with him … and her vampire sire has warned her away from him. Yet, as before, they are drawn to each other inexorably. This time is different, though for several reasons. The archangels' messenger has warned him that her life is in danger from someone (or someones) other than the archangels. Being a vampire, too, she's now supposedly immortal, having been turned as a vampire 20 years ago when on the brink of death. As you may be able to tell, this book has some pretty heavy scenes and emotions it evokes in both the characters and the reader. I'll admit it brought a tear to my eye more than once as I found their unfolding story so heartbreaking.

The book also has those elements you would expect in a cozy mystery, even if most of it didn't truly feel like one—more supernatural suspense than traditional paranormal cozy—like interesting secondary characters, cool names of shops and businesses, the world's special brand of magic as done by the different types of paranormal creatures and beings, and even fun community activities because it is Christmas time. The threat to the heroine's life appears to manifest in several ways, and I loved how the author provided genuine blind alleys, red herrings, and other surprising twists and turns. Who exactly is after the heroine with evil intent? She seems to attract people who may or may not want to hurt her but always want something from her. I won't give any more away, but this is a surprisingly complex world and story, not your average paranormal cozy—and in a good way! Highly recommended.

I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I’ve read all of Kat Kinney’s books, and I honestly can’t say which of her three paranormal series I love best. I pre-ordered “Fallen”, book two in the Everwood Falls series, and I couldn’t wait to read Lucien and Isabel’s story after my curiosity about them had been ignited while reading book one “Light My Pyre”. And I wasn’t disappointed!

I absolutely adore the way the author mixes the dark and the cosy. The characters in her books are stylish and beautiful. They live their lives with gusto – now I dream about visiting Texas and tasting all its specialities – appreciate delicious food, comfortable living, and don’t neglect their wardrobes. Still, they aren’t empty shells gifted with paranormal abilities. They are loyal friends, caring parents – even when the ones they call their children aren’t their blood kin – and devoted professionals in their field.

In Everwood Falls, the town where magic lives not only in its inhabitants but in plants and animals as well, you’ll meet an ancient vampire whose passion is to feed people. And feed them so that they leave his restaurant happier than they entered it. A green witch who teaches the town folk how to persuade a carnivorous spruce to behave like a proper Christmas tree so the kids can have a magical holiday season. A merman who works in the school to help students avoid accidents in the pool.
"Sometimes finding a way forward meant learning to live your best life and discovering joy in the people and pastimes you loved, despite the challenges of chronic illness." The author tackles the topic of chronic illness beautifully, portraying both the challenges such conditions bring and the ways to make one’s life fulfilling despite it.

Lucien and Isabel are meant to be together. They meet in ancient Pompeii, even though she wasn’t supposed to see him, and he wasn’t supposed to talk to her. They see each other, they talk to each other, and they fall in love. And that causes the avalanche, more disastrous than the eruption of Vesuvius. Isabel dies. Lucien gets severely punished by the Archangels. And the two of them suffer again and again over the centuries that come and go, strengthening the curse. Isabel gets born again and again only to die a tragic death. Lucien tries to prevent it but always fails.

Something changes when the Archangel approaches Lucien in Everwood Falls to tell him that this time, many innocent people’s lives are interconnected with Isabel’s impending death. It doesn’t give Lucien any hope that he might finally get a chance to spend his life with his beloved in this timeline after centuries of tragedies and heartbreak. He knows the ways of the Archangels only too well to be that optimistic. Yet, he can’t let innocent people die if he can prevent it. And so, although he’d sworn not to come close to Isabel this time, he breaks his promise, and he and Isabel unite their efforts to find those who threaten to turn the lives of many families of Everwood Falls into hell.

“Fallen” is a beautiful, emotionally charged, and oh-so-delicious story that will make you want to read more about Everwood Falls and its inhabitants.

Fallen is the wintery second entry in Kat Kinney’s Everwood Falls series; the core couple of this paranormal romance is Isabel and Lucien. Although Isabel doesn’t remember it, Lucien has loved and lost her many times. An angel, he first fell in love with her in Pompeii and was cursed for this transgression. His broken wings never mend and over the centuries he has continued to encounter reincarnated Isabels, watching each one die prematurely.

One new feature about this Isabel is that she is a vampire. She works as a doctor in Everwood Falls and is dealing with troubles and regrets unrelated to Lucien’s curse. When the two come into contact with each other, their resistance quickly breaks down, though both are aware of the consequences.

Every book in this series is as much a cosy mystery as a romance. Isabel is dealing with some legal trouble with the vampire high council, and someone seems to be stalking her and putting her patients in danger. We are introduced to a fascinating array of suspects…I mean new supporting characters:
There is Fiona, a secretive but pleasant gargoyle who has recently started working at the hospital with her, and the haunted Adam Sinclair, someone who has reason to despise Isabel. You will want to keep a close eye on them all as some leave a stronger trail in the narrative than others.

The archangels make some appearances and discuss Lucien’s tragic situation. I liked Lucien as a character, but I felt a bit more invested in Isabel's POV. She has to grapple with the hunger that all vampires endure. Her blood-draining instincts are made more intense when she uses her rare magical gift for healing. I won’t bring up spoilers, but it raises interesting moral dilemmas.

Sunshine the cat is a wonderful addition. Like Daisy before him, this pet is full of surprises. Costa Romero deserves a “World’s Best Vampire Dad” mug; you couldn’t be turned by a nicer bloodsucker.
I also really liked Fiona, Norah, Isabel’s elderly human mother, and a surprisingly endearing vampire character who appears towards the end.

Content warnings:

I come to this series between heavier reads for the yummy food descriptions, pets, and fluff. But it also has some very nutritious offerings to go with the dessert.
This series acts as a vehicle for Kinney to sensitively examine some very nuanced human issues. Everyone who arrives in Everwood is an outcast, fitting in with neither human nor standard magic societies. Although each book follows a main couple, it is the community around them who make this low-spice series shine. I will keep coming back to check on everyone's friends and neighbours.

Fallen is Book 2 in the Everwood Falls Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series. The description really piqued my interest, so as usual for me, I began in the middle of the series. It wasn’t a problem, because there is plenty of back story about the small village to catch me up, and the story was a standalone. Everwood Falls would be the perfect idyllic mountain village to be in at Christmas time. The small unique businesses and evergreens (if they don’t eat you) are lit up with colorful lights, the quirky town folks busily shop for gifts dressed in ugly Christmas sweaters. Carolers are singing Christmas songs to the cheerful residents. And The Chocolate Dipped Elf is filled with varieties of fudge and unique holiday cookies---the shredded coconut mountain goats, one of my favorites. Perfect except that those quirky town folk are not human ( Mundanes.) Instead, this is a supernatural community made up of cursed supernaturals, vampires, warlocks, shapeshifters, mermen, demons, dwarfs, and many more magical creatures. I loved the contrast of this warm and close net community who are celebrating the season of giving and goodwill together vs the harsh and dangerous reputations typically associated with their supernatural types. I mean you have got to love a minotaur with a Santa hat. Kudos to Kinney for this spectacular creation. She put the cozy in monsters.

Lucien Girard is an immortal angel who was cursed by the Archangels years ago for falling in love with a human woman, Isabel. His wings have been broken, and he has been forced to meet her and lose her to a violent death over and over again for thousands of years. No matter what he does to change her fate, it always ends with him falling in love with her again and losing her. When Dr. Isabel Romero shows up in Everwood Falls, he recognizes her immediately and is determined to stay away from her at all costs. Isabel has secrets of her own that may be coming back to haunt her in the form of a stalker, so staying away from Lucien is not her only concern. Unfortunately, Lucien may be the only one who can save her.

I I loved all the characters in this caring, supportive, and unique community where everyone gets along, respects each other, and celebrates their difference rather than allow it to divide them. Friendships are strong and unique. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Lucien and Isabel grow, though starkly contrasting personalities, the light and dark sides make a nice balance.

A truly enjoyed being transported into this magical world. I highly recommend to lovers of mystery and cozy paranormal romance.

Fallen is the second book of the Everwood Falls series by Kat Kinney. This can be read as a standalone book - I did exactly that, and I must admit that I am curious about book one now. This is a great paranormal romance that features a fallen angel and a vampire. So for people that enjoy a bit of fallen angel lore in their romances, this is a good book to read.

The concept is really emotional. Fallen angel Lucien Girard, was cursed and had his wings broken by the Archangels for breaking angelic law and falling in love. It's particularly heartbreaking because, it was his fated mate who he lost in Pompeii in the 72AD eruption. As a result, for the past two thousand years he has been drawn to meet his lover's reincarnation. And each and every time he is unable to save her life.

Making his home in Everwood Falls, a small town that shelters many types of magical beings, Lucien meets her again. This time his true love is a vampire, Dr Isabel Romero. Isabel was turned into a vampire after an accident a couple decades earlier, but she is still coming to terms with her transformation. She is also in trouble, because she has the power of healing - a power that is not easy for her to have. Especially when her power can send her into a blood rage if she depletes too much energy. Now in Everwood Falls and working at the hospital, it looks like at least one person is after Isabel and wants her dead.

Lucien is exhausted by the continual losses through the milennia, but he cannot help but to be draw to Isabel again. He has a friend among the angels and it is this friend that helps counsel Lucien through things.

To say that this book is an emotional roller coaster is an understatement. Lucien must decide what lengths he will go to save his fated mate, maybe for the last time, but Lucien does not have that kind of hope at the start. There are so many questions that we discover the answers to about Isabel as investigations into her activities by law enforcement and the vampire council have the story unfolding.

I adored both Lucien and Isabel. They are interesting and complex characters, both of whom had been through so much trauma. Their cats lighten some of the darkness, as well as having important roles in the main plot.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I thoroughly enjoyed the second installment of this series and read it within just two days. It can be read independently from part one and while consistent with the other story, there doesn’t seem to be an overarching story. Isabel, the main character, felt convincing, and Lucien was also engaging. The author has a beautiful voice, using diverse language while remaining easy to understand. She managed to paint a vivid, immersive picture of the world, making it easy to get lost in the narrative.

Be aware: Nitpicking ahead, this book was still five stars for me but it might be useful info for other readers:

The mystery aspect of the novel was well executed. Personally, I found the romance part somewhat unconvincing. While I’m not an avid romance reader, I recognized familiar beats. Unfortunately, to me, the development of the romance between Lucien and Isabel didn't feel convincing. It lacked natural progression, and I missed those moments where characters learn and grow together. Perhaps the concept of “fated mates” played a role, but I still would have enjoyed scenes where they get to know each other. The epilogue, too, seemed tacked on to meet a story beat.

Despite this, since romance isn’t my primary focus, it didn’t bother me much. Based on the cover though I had expected more romance and as such that might throw off other readers.

Once more great descriptions of food and nature. Once more a few places I stumbled and went back and forth because of an inconsistency I still don‘t understand. Not sure if things changed between edits but they are not in my mind this time.

Isabel’s interactions with other characters, mainly Fiona, Costa, and her mother, were highlights for me. The portrayal of her workplace was detailed enough to feel believable without becoming tedious. Ursula should have gotten a bit more screentime earlier on imo but it was still fine the way it was.

Norah, my favorite character, deserved more page time ;) I once more enjoyed her presence even though there wasn't much of it. Lovely side character. Her competence was fun to read and her skills and position as a demon makes me want to learn more, and I hope to explore her powers and challenges further.

Despite my critiques, I eagerly await the next installment and devoured this story within days. 📚😊

It took about a year for book two in this paranormal, cozy, small-town vibe, clean romance series, and I had to go back and reread Light My Pyre just so I could remember the cast of characters (which included both protagonists from Fallen, more so Lucien than Isabel). I liked Pyre well enough, though my cons persisted with the second read and into book two. I'll explain.

The series is very different from most PNR novels in that the characters—especially the heroes—are much more down to earth and flawed than the chiseled perfection found in other books. I rather like that. But there's so much quirky humor and absurd happenings that plot points can get lost or brushed aside. You may not notice, especially if you are sucked into Kinney' sumptuous descriptions of Everwood Falls and its denizens. But it sticks out to me.

We know Lucien is a fallen angel, doomed to love and lose Isabel over and over, and we know he, as a result, is determined to stay away to protect her. But then suddenly they're together and trading I Love Yous, and I'm not sure why or how. In neither book are there sexy times, which doesn't bother me, but either way, I need to understand when and why the heroes become a couple.

The suspense part is a little forced. First, it follows pretty much the same pattern as book 1, but I'll stop there so as not to spoil anything. The ultimate baddie is bad, but I didn't feel there was enough content leading up to the big reveal to make it make sense.

With regard to the paranormal, I like that Kinney does things differently—thank goodness for vamps that eat people food, amiright? But some things seem like she should have stuck with tradition. Vamps are undead, for example, so should they be breathing? But an animal animal shifter? That's pure brilliance. Loved that!

Fallen is cute, and, like in book one, plenty of characters are introduced that are clearly future protagonists. The next book stars a green witch and a merman, the latter of which almost never appears in PNR, so I'm excited for that story. Hopefully, it won't be another year wait!

I received an ARC of this book for free from the author and BookSirens. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

So much fun being back in Everwood Falls where vampires save lives, fae princes are firemen, and fallen angels run bookstores! In a cross between the saddest love story ever and a comically quirky small town romance Lucian and Isabel fight for their love, a love that they’ve been denied for thousands of years, work on breaking curses, and hunt down a stalker in a truly charming read.
Lucian has spent the past two thousand years broken and cursed for defying angelic law. Forced to lose his mate over and over. Each time finding her again only to lose her once more. And now shes here in Everwood Falls. Isabel, a vampire and nurse, has a rare gift for vampires, one that has been a blessing and a curse and made her years as a vampire even lonelier. She’s happy here in Everwood Falls with friends and a community of other supernatural creatures that she doesn’t want to lose. But she’s got herself a stalker, someone who doesn’t mind hurting others to get to her, and she’s got herself a fallen angel who says she’s his mate. But she has no memory of him from any past life and his curse makes them both leery of even being around each other in case it’s triggered. As the stalker ups his game though Lucian will do anything to finally let Isabel live a happy and full life, even give up his own.
I really love this series, it’s such a great blend of light and serious with a really fun cast of characters and a town where literally anything can happen. With this book though I was so heartbroken for Lucian, losing your mate again and again and knowing that it’s because you are cursed is a literal nightmare. And Lucian is one of the good ones who definitely deserves his HEA. Definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a paranormal read that’s on the lighter side but so, so good.

This is book 2 in the Everwood Falls series. I believe this one is my favorite. According to the author these books can be enjoyed in any order.

We return to Everwood Falls, the small supernatural community tucked into the Colorado Rockies this time we follow one of my favorite side characters from book 1 Lucien as he gets his story.

Lucien was once an angel, that was until he changed the fate of a human woman he’d fallen in love with. Now centuries later he is still bearing the curse that the Archangels handed down to him.

Dr. Isabel Romero is in danger as it seems like Isabel’s past is haunting her and someone is hunting her.

Kat Kinney did an amazing job at writing this story. I was captivated the entire time and at the edge of my seat waiting to see who or what is after Isabel and if Lucian would be allowed a HEA after all these years. While it is obvious Lucian falls in love quickly here, I do feel like that is acceptable as he’s been falling in love with her for centuries now. I also loved the little hints of other books and getting to see the MMC and MFC from book 1.

🎙️🎙️The Narration is by: Lisa Lynn….🎙️🎙️
Lisa did it again, her voice caused this story to come alive.
And the cat meow’s OMGosh I can’t…. Those are perfection.
Each and every time I listen to something narrated by Lisa Lynn I fully get pulled into the story and her calming tones keep me engaged and entertained.

Note regarding the authors books: Her Everwood Falls Series (Light My Pyre, Fallen & The Siren’s Cursed Kiss) is a no spice only kissing series, also her YA books (Dyrwolf & Darkwitch) are also no spice. She does have a Texas Shifters series that has spice, so just FYI if you go to read anything you are aware of the differences.

Fallen is the second book in the Everwood Falls series, and I was really excited to read it after enjoying the first book, Light My Pyre, last year. I couldn’t wait to go back to Everwood Falls, a magical town literally and figuratively, and found myself quickly immersed in the setting and Lucien’s and Isabel’s story.

Lucien is a fallen angel who was punished for trying to save his love’s life. Now, destined to fall in love and watch her die over and over again through the centuries, it wasn’t surprising to see him fall for Isobel so quickly. Isabel is a doctor and vampire new to Everwood Falls, and she’s struggling with the fact that she can’t see her mother as much as she’d like since she doesn’t age and the supernatural world is a secret. They are both compelling characters, and they have fantastic chemistry!

Everwood Falls almost takes on a life of its own in this series, and I love the rich details and vivid descriptions of the town. A safe haven for supernaturals, it’s one of my favorite parts of the book. Carniverous trees, sentient pumpkins, enchanted animals, many different supernaturals, interesting shops, and more make this unique town come alive.

The mystery behind who’s harming patients of Everwood Falls, as well as a possible threat from Isabel’s past, add a nice dash of suspense to the paranormal romance. And I like that the MCs from the first book have secondary roles in this one, and that there are hints of future protagonists, too. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!

Thanks to Kat Kinney for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Fallen by Kat Kinney takes you to Everwood Falls, an enchanted town where the magically cursed are banished to live out their lives. It is a refuge for those whose magic is especially dangerous. The town's magic is contained within its boundaries, undiscoverable by mundanes, who could never learn the truth that supernatural beings lived among them for centuries.

This time we meet Lucien and Isabel. Lucien an archangel who fell in love with a human, Isabel two thousand years ago and as a punishment was sentenced to live on earth for the rest of eternity. And cursed to fall in love with Isabel each time she was reborn in a different time and place. Twenty five times he has lost a version of Isabel and this time he is determined to save her even if things are complicated by Isabel being a vampire and a stalker threatening her. He means to save her even if he has to give up everything.

It's a love story beautifully written and garnished with the fragrance of fresh peanut butter fudge and chocolate chip ice cream, the aroma of cheese burgers, onion rings and lasagna with fresh basil and ricotta or the scent of woodsmoke and pine from a cozy fire flickering in a large stone hearth. Kat Kinney, she surrounds you with smells, sounds, and community and no book of hers would be complete without the presence of adorable and unique pets with their supernaturals cozily wrapped around their paws.

The writing makes the story and it's characters come alive in the pages for the reader and the descriptions take you right there to the streets and locales of Everwood Falls.
Definitely a must read.

I am falling for Everwood Falls, for all its quirks, the paranormals who call it home and their wonderful pets! The community is about as mixed as it can be and hardly anyone thinks anything of it when a new vampire joins them. Isabel is a doctor who was changed the night she died, by Italian restaurant owner Costa. She, and he, are in Everwood Falls for protection, she has the rare gift of healing magic but she also has a stalker and has unwittingly become part of the life of Lucien, town bookseller and fallen angel. When he fell he was cursed to fall in love with his soulmate, Isabel, over and over again, when she appeared in different lifetimes as a new person, never knowing their backstory. This time, this Isabel, is going to be different...

A veiled warning from one of his few archangel friends lets Lucien know that this time will be different but also that this time it is not only Isabel's life that will be in danger, the threat will be bigger. Could it be the mystery stalker Isabel knows she has or are there deeper mysteries that affect all the paranormals, great things at stake than any of them realise. With time running out for Lucien, Isabel's stalker coming ever closer, they are going to have to take some of the biggest risks of their paranormal lives, the tension is high, it is tight, the love these paranormals have for one another evident, the action excellent and the narration captures it all perfectly. Another heart-stopping, nail-biting visit to Everwood Falls.

This is the second book I have read from author Kat Kinney. It follows on after Light My Pyre but can be read as a standalone book. This is Lucien Girard and Dr. Isabel Romero's story. It does not disappoint. It is as good as the first book. Kat Kinney is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I love her style of writing. The story is fast paced and full of excitement with a touch of romance.

Poor Lucien. He is a fallen angel who was punished when he tried to change the fate of the woman he fell in love with. He had all the bones in his wings broken by the Archangels and is cursed to keep falling in love over and over again only to see his love die every time.

Isobel died twenty years ago but was saved by Costa who turned her into a vampire. She is only allowed to visit her parents once a year becauses she now does not age. However, she has a secret. She has special powers which can heal when all hope is lost. Whenever she is found out, she and Costa flee to another safe town. Isobel is being stalked by a mysterious person. Her life is in danger. Will she and Costa have to leave Everwood Falls?

Lucien keeps hoping that each time he meets up with his love it will break the curse and they will live on together, but it never works. She is always killed. Will this time be the one where the curse is broken? Can he have his happy ever-after?

This story is well worth reading.

I like this series for the generosity of its message of redemption and the true goodness of its characters. It is meant to be a virtual prison for paranormal misdemeanors, but it has become a home to paranormals who had no other fault than being who they were born, who luckily live on the side of light, so it's a magical place for the dream come to (virtual) life were good prevails.

I almost wrote good vanquishes evil, but being human with all its dark side is not evil, it is the balance which must be minded at all times as part of the universe we live in. It is evil to murder, to torture and to kidnap, but is it really evil to want more for your family, a better life for yourself or just to be happy no matter what? No, it isn't evil to want, evil is what happens when the way we seek to accomplish all that are evil.

The central idea of the book is that love can be selfish or generous, and because we're human, it takes time to learn that love means we do anything for the people we love to make them happy, and not to just seek fulfillment in our own feelings. For some, this is a lesson already printed on the heart, for others it take years to understand or they never do. And for an immortal being it can take thousands of years and a world of pain, because their feelings seem to be so human after al…

Kat Kinney is definitely becoming one of my top favorite authors! She once again has me falling in love with the town of Everwood Falls and its residents.

It was a bit of a slow start for me but that has more to do with the fact that I had decided to quickly re-read/skim the first book "Light My Pyre" so I could refresh my memory on some of the characters/events that previously occurred. Once my attention was solely on "Fallen" I found that I couldn't put it down.

Kinney crafted another fantastic mystery that had me up late into the night trying to figure out the culprit. And of course, I couldn't help but sympathize with Lucien and Isabel. Each of them has had their own tragedies and struggles that they've had to overcome. The love and support from their friends and each other definitely showed how Everwood Falls is not just a town but a tight knit community where the residents feel more like your family.

I'm looking forward to Kinney's next book in the series, which I'm so happy she revealed would be about our favorite Green Witch and Merman! You can bet that once it's available for pre-order I'll be immediately clicking that purchase button. And the second an ARC becomes available I'll be one of the first to request a copy!

Ok, so despite my insistence on romance not being my favourite, genre, I find myself coming back to this series. The way Kat does her books, makes it accessible to wider audiences. I like that.

This story continues with some of the same characters met in the previous book, in the same small town settlement for magical outcasts. It's got this MCU feel to it where, you can clearly see the main couple from the previous book, have shifted roles to becoming side characters, and now, a previous side character from the first book, is the protagonist. That was nicely done! A smooth transition, taking Lucien from the previous book and making him the protagonist here.

The story is mostly told from Lucien's perspective. It was easy for me to put myself in his shoes.

The main couple this time, is an angel named Lucien and a vampire named Isabel. The general gist is of star-crossed lovers. Just like in the first book, there is a nice mix of magical stuff and modern amenities. Since this time the main woman is a doctor, there is a nice mix of medical lingo with fantastical elements. This also has its own mystery to as to who the real enemy is. Sometimes I felt like I was being deliberately led down a rabbit hole, but it all resolved nicely in the end.

I preferred the first book, but maybe that's just my preference for dragons over vampires.

I loved this. I did not read book 1 in this series, so I was not familiar with Everwood Falls or its characters.

I enjoyed reading about the mix of magical people in Everwood Falls- wolf shifters, dragons, Minotaurs, gargoyles, vampires, witches, angels, yetis…plus enchanted trees, ligers…it makes for a very cool place!

Isabel is a vampire who is also a doctor. Forced to leave her previous home because of an incident related to her vampirism - and special power- she uses her powers for good in Everwood Falls, and life seems pretty calm… until she finds herself in Lucien’s sights.

Lucien is a fallen Angel who has been living as an outcast for millennia, cursed by a cruel panel of magical directors to repeatedly fall in love with a reincarnation of his first true love, only to lose her— every time— before the relationship can deepen. Lucien is stopped in his tracks on seeing Isabel, who very much reminds him of his first great love.

I loved the reincarnation storyline, as well as the mystery surrounding Isabel and her…let’s say stalker. All of these elements combined with the story between Lucien and Isabel makes for a very entertaining tale. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in the series!

FALLEN is the second book in the Everwood Falls series, and this time we follow Lucien and Isabel as they navigate Lucien's curse and Isabel's lack of memories. She is also dealing with her own problems, such as a stalker who is trying to kill her.

It was wonderful seeing the familiar characters again, although it did take me a moment to get them sorted in my head. I love seeing how they all live and work together with their different strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately for me, that means I also forget which one is a what. I get there though!

I thought the mystery side was well done, giving plenty of opportunities to see it all building as it comes together. The only part that got me (as such) was how Lucien and Isabel went from avoiding each other to declaring their love. It just seemed a little fast (if you ignore the prior two thousand years) with no real build-up to it.

A great addition to the series and a welcome return to Everwood Falls. I look forward to reading more in the future.

'Fallen' is another Kat Kinney winner! It's the second in the Everwood Falls series and can be read as a standalone but reading Light My Pyre first introduces several of the characters. Everwood Falls is a fascinating town of supernaturals in the Colorado Rockies and they are all so interesting, especially the carnivorous trees (that's a new one to me!).

Lucien Gerard is a fallen angel because he tried to prevent the death of a human he loved and has been punished because of it. Besides breaking his wings, he must see a reincarnation of his first love in different women repeatedly and experience their untimely deaths.

Dr. Isabel Romano is a vampire who moved to Everwood Falls. She has special healing powers and is wanted and hunted for her unique ability. She also looks like Lucien's first love. There is an emotional push and pull between Lucien and Isabel throughout the story.

'Fallen' was such an enjoyable read. Kinney created supernaturals with unique personalities that helped them come alive on the pages. I can't wait for the next book in the Everwood Falls series.

The premise of the book and characters initially were very interesting. This was a new idea I haven’t read before so I was intrigued. The book was well written and I didn’t see a lot of grammar errors. The plot was well thought out and flowed evenly. I loved the MMC and his struggle. I understood what he was thinking and why he had held on for so long. The MFC was not my all time favorite character but she wasn’t terrible. She probably had the least amount of development out of all characters in the book. I found her to be whiney and annoying at times but it wasn’t a complete turn off to the point I didn’t want to continue. The only issue I really had was that the book could drag at times. I skipped over several chapters because there was just too much information that didn’t really have anything to do with the story line, full conversations with her friends and things like that where I just lost interest.

Overall it was a good book, and I’ll probably read the next one in the series.

Fallen is the second book I’ve read by Kat Kinney, and it pulled me in even more than the first. This time, I felt like I genuinely understood Everwood Falls. The town, its magic, and its people felt more familiar, like revisiting a place that was starting to feel like home.

Lucien and Isabel’s story was emotionally rich and beautifully paced. Their bond builds slowly and sincerely, shaped by past wounds and quiet courage. I found myself rooting for them as a couple and as individuals learning to heal and trust again. Their connection was heartfelt and tender, without feeling rushed or overly dramatic.

Kat Kinney’s imagination shines in this book. From the enchanted forest touches to the unique magical moments, a creative spark in the story sets it apart. The balance of cozy romance, gentle mystery, and subtle fantasy was spot-on, but what really stayed with me was the emotional depth behind it all.

If Light My Prye was a fun introduction, Fallen is the book that made me feel truly connected to Everwood Falls. It’s a lovely continuation that deepens the world and the characters in the best ways. I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next in this series.

Get me a ticket to Everwood Falls!

Kat Kinney's book "Fallen" has made me fall in love with the series as well as the enchanted town of Everwood Falls! This cozy mystery cannot get any more cozy than this. Everwood Falls at Christmas time was like Christmas in July for me. Treats galore from The Chocolate-Dipped Elf and coffeeshop Witches Brew, cozy bookshops and supernatural pet shop Fangs & Scales make Everwood Falls a place for all fantasy fans to enjoy. A close-knit community for Fae folk, vampires, werewolves and Angels, etc. Beautiful Angel, Lucien is struggling with a centuries long curse involving a mortal woman (Isabel) whom he fell in love with, breaking the angel laws when he tried to avert her death at Pompeii. The curse forces Lucien to experience her love and her loss over and over up to the present time. Can Lucien break the curse when the lovely vampire Dr. Isabel Romero moves to the community to work at the hospital without putting the many innocent lives at risk and who is stalking Isabel from her mysterious past? Read this enchanting cozy romantasy to find out! You won't be disappointed!

Paranormal romance with suspence and mystery. This is part of a series to better understand the characters in the book I suggest you read book 1.

The story is set in the Colorado mountains in a place where the mudanes (humans) doesn't know it exists.

He is one of the fallen archangels forced to love the same fate over and over for thousands of years all because he went against the rules to save his fated mate.

She is a vampire who has had to move because other people are trying to hurt her in some way. She came to live in Everwood falls to start fresh. However the town folk warned her about the curse that He has, so she tries her best to stay away.

Fate is a fickle thing and there is always a way to make things happen.

Spoiler alert………

They go through a mystery to solve who is trying to hurt her in their town . They find out who it is and then just when you think the curse is going to happen all over again. They are finally granted free of the curse and get their H.E.A .
