Monster in My Bed #6

Kindred Spirits

Rate this book
I ain’t afraid of no ghost…But tentacle monsters are another story.

For the last year, I’ve been living with an invisible monster who steals my snacks, turns off my electricity, and runs off all my dates. As annoying as that is, he’s my only companion, and the only one I trust with my deepest, darkest secret.
I’m not human.

Then again, neither is my new roommate, and he and ESCU have history. Not the good kind either. But since he seems to think we’re mates, his problems are now mine. I’m certainly not going to argue, especially since he’s got a razor-sharp teeth and claws. But hey, I’m into that so it works out…

Until my estranged father leads ESCU right to my doorstep. Now, I have a choice: either hand over my pizza roll loving tentacle monster boyfriend, or turn myself in to save him.

I knew I shouldn’t have gone to work today.

Kindred Spirits is the sixth book in the Monsters in My Bed series, which should be read in order. Expect a book with plenty of found family, a scary looking tentacle monster who’s a squishy cinnamon roll on the inside, monster anatomy, and a sweet himbo human (sort of) with ADHD and a sugar addiction.

I adored this so much!

I absolutely loved Axel and Ghosts story, but I do confess to having mixed emotions over this being the end of the series and, at least for the foreseeable future, the end of monster romance from this author. Their monster books are so much more than that. I mean yes, the monsters are hot as sin and sweet as can be, but what I really loved is that the monsters (in any true sense of the word) are human and monstrous through intent. The paranormal characters are some of the sweetest, kindest and most loyal characters you could ever wish for. They are more human than half the humans you find in books. Anyway, I’m sad that this might be the end of seeing these beautifully creative and wonderful characters for a while. No doubt their other books will be amazing, but this series has a special place in my heart. Ghost and Axel were the perfect pair to finish the series. There’s a sense of completeness that you don’t always get with the last book in a series. Friendly faces appear and you get a true resolution that feels as good as it reads. I cannot imagine a better way to end the series (beyond revealing another related series will come soon lol). Genuinely though, it has all the things that I loved about this series wrapped up in a beautiful tentacled bow.

A satisfying conclusion to an awesome series. Kindred Spirits is a 'dream' ending to the series Monsters in My Bed in that it gives the readers what we want for a conclusion: it brought the main characters from every book together for the finale, it tied up most of the loose ends, it provides a new and excitingly hot plot for Axel who I have been waiting for, We meet a new monster who does not conform to any human standards but who is still so very real, passionate, caring and relatable inside.
I will admit the first book made me hesitant as it had some unfortunate parallels to Lilly Maynard's series, but I am so glad I continued. Each of the stories is complex, original, and filled with main characters who, while flawed and scared, are still striving for life and happiness.
If you are a monster fan or just love a really good alternative reality story, start with Kissed by the Krampus and proceed with joy.

This has been my absolute favorite monster series I've read🤍 I loved how the overarching story wrapped up and I'm so happy Axel found love. Ghost despite being so traumatized is so sweet with Axel. Sad to see the end of the series but man it was a good one!

Kindred Spirits is an excellent final book for the Monsters in My Bed series. All of our favorite humans and monsters gather together for one last stand against those who would imprison them.

Axel's happy ever after has been a long time coming. Not just in reguard to the series timeline but in life. His mother and father died when he was young, leaving him with a grieving and flawed Honor. Then as a teenager Honor walked out one day and never returned. Axel has fought through valid fear of discovery for who he is, and through soul crushing loneliness. When he begins being visited by a ghostly figure he finds a partner in all of that. Ghost is the least human in thought and form out of the series, but he's got a good heart.

Tropes: There's angst from traumatic backgrounds including torture from one viewed as a father figure. Monsters that look a little like the predator. Substance use. Unintentional triggering of mates.

This was a great end to the series.

This is the final book in the Monsters In My Bed series and what the author says will be their final monster book.
This makes me sad because they're fantastic at writing monsters, but this book was a satisfying ending to the series. No one will ever usurp Bud as my favorite monster of the bunch, but I adored Ghost (probably tied with Ziggy as second favorite). He was sweet and vulnerable and protective and resilient. I also loved that out of all the monsters we've seen, he's definitely the most monstrous in appearance. No mistaking this dude for human in any way.
Axel was a great match for Ghost and his easygoing, "roll with it" attitude brought good balance to the relationship.
The author did a good job of tying up the major loose ends and though I wish there would be more monster books forthcoming, I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and this was a great one to wrap it up.

This book was about Axel and Ghost.

In this book we meet a new monster, one that's feared , supposed to be a blooded killer, feral and has no mercy but honestly ghost is not like that and he is not like his kind either. So in book 2 we see that axel has been having some "ghost" issues and that's mentioned in the other books well.... This is about axel and his ghost, we get to know more about axel even though we knew about his parents and past and background in the 5th book with honor and ziggy. Axel is alone and all his life he has lived secluded and has been abandoned ,not on purpose but because of circumstances. When he finally discovers hwta his "ghost" is, he just feels like he is not alone anymore and can actually have someone for him always.

His relationship with ghost at first is not like all other couples , first of all , the others monsters are somehow civilized and can communicate with humans and have human knowledge about things. But ghost is more primitive , feral, possessive , he goes by instinct at first but he learns things and he has speech issues, he cannot speak like others fluently only certain phrases he mimics from others/ radio/songa/cartoons and one syllable words with his own voice which does sounds like a ghost, deep and weird. Ghost was born in that douche Parkers facility and Parker abusive and exploited him , to make experiments and such he also hurt ghost over and over. So ghost does not trust easily. But he does trust Axel and cares for him a lot .He does improve his speech towards the end/ and seems more used to human words/things and we can see that in the epilogue. Is more comfortable in his own skin as well and more confident and free and happy.

One thing that I loved about this book is that the friendship and relationships we saw in the other books are really strong, cuZ the whole crew is reunited here, Chris and Ollie from book 1, Phoenix and bud and junior (yesss bud had an egg with Phoenix !!! Omggg) from book 2, Charlie and cupid from book 3, Robert and hopper from book 4, honor and ziggy from book 5 and agent mozley too from book 5.

I don't really think this is the conclusion of this series tbh I hope there's more books... but this epilogue was amazing sounded like a perfect ending for all the series but idk, something tells me there's more like I wanna read about Ben from book 3, noah from book 4, Kaito which is a crex , he is very interesting tbh, I hope I can read about him. And sweet Levi from book 4, that gentle giant and amazing chef.

Anyways will be on the lookout if there are more books!!!

After waiting for so long, Axel finally gets his monster!

I didn't think I could love any couple more than Charlie and Bud, but from the moment we met Axel in Scales and Song, I had a soft spot for him. He had a rough life but was always so positive. Well, his story was definitely worth the wait and a great way to end the series (for now, fingers crossed L comes back to it. I mean, poor Ben is still single!).

Ghost could not have been more perfect for Axel and vice versa. Axel needed someone utterly devoted to him, and his monster mate needed a human who could show him patience and compassion. Ghost's background is equally heartbreaking as he had been subject to mistreatment by humans his whole life.

L's style blends together action, drama, and romance, interspersed with moments of levity and humor. The plot of the story was well rounded and the pacing was spot on, and this was probably one of the steamiest romances of the series. I didn't feel like any aspect was rushed or neglected. We got to see all the couples from previous stories and get updates on their HEAs. The ending really wrapped up the series in a wholesome, heartwarming way while leaving the door open for more in the future.

This book can be read as a stand-alone, but to get the full experience, I highly recommend reading the other books in the series first. That will be no hardship as they are all fantastic. The year just started, but I think it's safe to say that Kindred Spirits will be among my top reads of 2024. It's so hard to say goodbye to these monsters and their men. I'll say see you later instead because I will definitely be reading this series again.

“I am who I choose to be, not what you made me.”

Finally we get Axel and his ghost!
Turns out when you keep stocking the frozen pizza bites you are actually agreeing to be mates since you fed who you thought was an invisible ghost.

I loved this book.
I have loved Axel since I first met him, his conspiracy ass had me laughing and smiling every time he showed up. I was surprised to get a sneaky peek at the end of book 5 and I was left wanting more and boy did we get more.

I was surprised by Ghost but only because I remember the invisible monster that tore through the compound. Now we know who it was and also why he did that. Even if he is a monster when he shows Axel what he went through it's hard not to get angry. His attention and protection of Axel had me smiling and glad that Axel finally had someone that was his own.
Axel is the friend everyone has but ultimately feels alone since he feels abandoned by everyone, including those that should love him. Getting through his POV's was like a rollercoaster of emotions, he's down but then he remembers things and is right back up again and himself.

But we can definitely not forget about the wall of dildos, yeah I will remember that!
The sex drive of Axel is to me what makes him who he is, and the sugar intake. Maybe being part Fae is what sets him apart from everyone in the best way possible.
Axel & Ghost are the perfect way to end this series off.

If you have read the others in this series this one will not disappoint because it clears everything up and leaves nothing behind.
There is spice..
There is a touch of the feels..
There is a touch of anger..
This book has a little of everything but it makes it worth it.

Oh and we have tentacles... that is all I will say on that. Read the book to find out

I decided to wait until the end to review the whole series, so here we are.
This is basically a Walmart version of Lily Mayne. While I love the concept and don't mind the similarities, it just wasn't consistent enough to be called a "good" series. It's very hit and miss, could use serious editing, better characterization, and the villains are meh at best.
At the end of the day I love a good monsterf*cker story, so no complaints there, but don't get your hopes up too high for a dazzling story or universe.
One last thing about this specific book that bothered me:
It's canon that Cupid can bring people back from literally the brink of death...so why in the world when Honor got injured did he not just heal him right away? Why did they have to take Honor back? Why was he still injured and healing in the aftermath? Like I said before, too inconsistent and in places infuriating to see the plotholes.

Kindred Spirits wraps up the Monsters in My Bed series so beautifully, bringing together so many familiar faces but not just to tie up loose ends, Axel and Ghost have their own beautiful, smutty, story to get through before they can even think about a HEA and it's a delight from start to finish. I'll reiterate what I've said in reviews for others in the series: there's so much more to these books than just 'monster' or 'romance'. They're complex, thoroughly realised paranormal fantasies that will draw you in, and then - bam - have some monster play while you're at it. All the author's characters are flawed, real people - even the ones with fur, scales, or dozens of tentacles. You definitely want to have read the rest of the series before this one, so start with Kissed by the Krampus and go from there.

I'm so sad to learn that this is the last of the series. These books are so comforting to me. I was in a bit of a slump and remembered this was on my kindle, and knew it would get me out of it. And I finished it in record time. I loved finally getting Axel's story, and I loved that we got to meet Ghost. These two were so perfect for each other. And there were tentacles. Can't go wrong with that. I really liked that there was sounding in this book. You don't see that often and added to the spice. And of course I loved seeing everyone come back together. This was a great way to wrap up the series. Hopefully she will revisit the characters and we can get another book or two. Love this author.

This was a relatively quick, fun series with more action than I typically go for and a fun cast of characters. As is typical with the monster genre, it had more smut than I prefer, but that's a personal preference thing. It was great to finally get to Axel's story and learn about his ghost issue (which I think was first mentioned in book three? At the end of this book the authors note said Axel's story was initially planned to be sooner) and while I understand the premise of this series is that the romantic pairings are monsters, I was kinda disappointed Ghost wasnt actually a ghost. I did decide to finish this series sooner rather than later because I was curious about the ghost.
This series wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a fun way to relax and get my mind off life

What a perfect ending to an amazing series! Axel has been there for his friends and appeared throughout other books in the series, and I was so happy he got his own story. This book picks up right where Bounty & Bone ended, with Honor going to reconnect with Axel. The healing they both go through, along with the blossoming relationship with Ghost, is so heartwarming and feels well developed and complete.

All couples from previous books also make appearances, so while the romantic focus is on Axel and Ghost, everybody’s story is wrapped up and loose ends are tied. If another story is written in the future, I’d happily read it, but if not, I couldn’t ask for a better ending!

This is the last book in the Monsters in My Bed series and it’s a worthy capstone to the set. Ghost is probably my favorite monster so far— I love the blend of kindness and protectiveness, vulnerability and care and strength. Axel’s laid back personality is a great foil, and their dynamic together has a great balance of sweetness and spice. The author has a gift, throughout the series, for creating relatable characters, where distinctions like “monster” and “human” are less important than the vivid personalities that inhabit both. 4.5 stars.

5 stars…
Well that’s most likely the end for this series. I loooved it. Stumbled on this back when it was only half way done and fell in love. I looove the characters, I think the romance is top notch, and the background conflict and internal conflict within the couples and characters was well thought out and enjoyable. Happy to finally see Axel happy. I was hoping for a touch more between Honor and them talking about his childhood but I didn’t hate the way it was handled. I also thought making ghost not a ghost and making it 069 was a good way to wrap up a lot.

2/5 on spice. 4/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Truely sad to see this series end. I love basically everything from this author.

I've been waiting for Axel's story basically since he was introduced and while I was sad that the series was ending, I was looking forward to one last hurrah with all the monsters and their human mates. There was so much potential for this last installment, great tropes, great characters... but ultimately this story fell flat for me and I feel horrible saying that because I usually love L. Eveland's work. It really felt like L’s heart wasn’t in this one, especially like it was in the others.

I might come back to this later and give it another go, it's possible that I wasn’t in the right mood/mindset to see this series end and I might be being too critical.

It's a semi paranoid Axel's turn to find his monster but his finds him first. Ghost, as he calls him, is an aquatic guy with black leathery skin, lots of teeth and tentacles and he professes Axel is his mate as he provided pizza rolls. With lots of past characters returning, this book is just as steamy and just as daring as these two try to stay out of the government's hands. Ghost is the sweetest possessive monster yet. As the last book of the series it ties up everything, or does it? I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.

This is the final book in the series and I am sad to see these characters go. The series comes full circle back to the place it all started, with the whole crew coming back together to support Axel, whose pizza roll eating ghost turns out to be his monster-mate, to take down once and for all the evil Parker. This story had a great found family aspect, including a fiery goth-lesbian. I think this tied up most of the loose ends in this story, although of course I'd love to read more... Ben surely needs his own happy ending, right?

This book was a very satisfying ending to a great series of book! The main loose ends are tied up while also leaving a few hints of possible future novel/novella spin-offs.

Axel and Ghost are so sweet together and the chemistry between them is *chef's kiss*. Consent is very sexy and so are tentacles! It's also great that the all the couples from this series gets together to become the most wonderful and supportive found family <3

I was given an ARC for an honest review. Hope this review encourages you to pick up this book!

It turns out that Axel's mate is literally a big, possessive pizza roll! I have been enjoying all of our unique monsters, but I have to say Ghost was a really unique surprise! He is every bit a monster physically with tentacles and teeth, but the biggest sweetheart inside. Axel and Honor reunite and heal together as well. The rest of the previous cast and monsters are here to give us the final conquering of the evil and our Happy Ever Afters for all!

Axel finally got his book!

When I read the first book in this series (Kissed by the Krampus) I absolutely fell in love with this universe and all of these characters. Seeing everyone back together for one final book is bitter sweet. This story is amazing and I'm so happy that Axel finally got his forever love, but I am going to miss this wonderful world. I hope the author revisits this universe, but until then I will just reread these ones over and over again.

Sad it ended

This series was fantastic. Every step of the way was something new and interesting. And I think my favorite book was kindred spirits. I really loved ghost and axel. Just an amazing couple. And hello tentacles 😝 but I loved the whole series. Every book was amazing in its own way. And this was my first mm monster romance. So definitely reading these again. You are an amazing writer Mrs. Eveland

Great conclusion to the series! The author brings a cast of strong characters centering on Ghost and Axel and takes you into their lives as the relationship progresses. It's a sweet story with descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is an entertaining read.

This was delicious. I love how axel is just unapologetic and himself. Axel loves who he is as a person, sometimes.. sometimes he just wishes he could be normal. I loved that we got to check in with our found family members. There were still some things left dangling but nothing that will really keep you up at night, at least in my opinion.

Honestly this series might become my comfort series. There is so much love and affection and support. The writing is good and easy to read. This book doesn’t have as much smut as the others which was surprising since he was supposed to have a “high” sex drove. But still i am happy. I loved the avengers thing that happened too. Loved the barely verbal Ghost & couldn't have enough of him. Otoh, couldn't relate to the human x fae weed smoker extrovert hero & all his friends + partners & kids (my first book in the series & I wouldn't recommend as a standalone).
The conspiracy + mad scientist was also flat for me.
