Legend has it that the ancient town of Than-javur came up on the spot where Vishnu defeated an evil demon. The mighty Cholas made it their capital in the 9th century CE, following which they increased, through conquests, the size and strength of their empire. Finally, after realising all his military ambitions, the Chola monarch Raja Raja Chola I decided to build a great temple in Thanjavur dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thus Thanjavur became home to the majestic Brihadeeswara temple and many other shrines.
Amar Chitra Katha tells the stories surrounding this ancient town and its monuments.
Grandmothers make the best storytellers. Prabha Nair, city-based author appears to be one such grandma who's brimming with stories, fables, myths and legends to tell her nine-year-old grandson, Rohan, and millions of other children too. In simple prose, accompanied by glossy illustrations,
Good book.I love it.Thank you for the big mythology book for children of Thanjavur, Anant Pai.I love you so much that I will download more books of Amar Chitra Katha that you have made!!!!!!!!!!
This a small comic book that offers an insight into the Chola Kingdom of South India and one of the greatest marvels of Indian architecture, the Brihadeshwara Temple of Thanjavur. A must read for history, mythology enthusiasts and Amar Chitra Katha fans.
Even though its a comics, it contains short stories and incidents which talk about construction of grand shiva temples. It also relates the stories behind building those temples. I found it very insightful and full of knowledge.
Loved it. If you are a fan of Ponniyin Selvan must read. Pooniyin Selvan is the fiction and this book gives the fact behind that fiction.
Also, if you are someone who grew up in Tamil Nadu you would have certainly heard about "Chidambaram Ragasiyam" a.k.a the secrets of Chidambaram. This book actually tells us what the secret was.
The story behind the dancing Shiva and many many more. Loved it so soo much. Would be amazing if Amar Chitra Kadha wrote more about the historic places in South India.
good for storytelling to children..short book so h details found here so depends on intention you need to know about Tanjavuur...it's a very simple and lucid read...
This book was good and it showed how Thanjavur had been built. It gave a lot of information on the Chola and the monuments built. It was quite painful to see the Chola king suffering. The part where Shiva destroys all of the three asuras and returns triumphant was great and even I did not know that a toad was stuck inside it. This gave me a lot of information which I had never known and it was great.
Big Temple, built by a Biggest Emperor in a Big City Thanjavur
The story of Thanjavur very well narrated with all relevant historical proofs and lovely art of pictures. Children of present generation would benefit a lot by reading this early History of Tamils.
