The Witch

I didn't want to go on a date, let alone a date where I was "matched" with someone from a goddess-forsaken app my so-called friends forced on me. He could be an axe murdered for all I knew. I had too much on my plate to even think about starting a relationship. I ran an island for paranormal folks to escape the humans and relax. My residents needed me and since there was no one else to run my family's haven for lost and weary souls, it was up to me. I didn't have time for boyfriends or dating or anything other than keeping my island in the Pacific safe.

So I ran, like I always do. I ran from the table and straight into my date's arms.

His hunky, muscular arms that connected to his hunky, muscular body.

The Zombie

I didn't want to go on a date, let alone a date where some feckin' computer told me who I was supposed to mate. I didn't need help finding someone, even if I was on some weird island for magick beings like me. I woke up from my own bloody grave six months ago. I was trying to learn how to function in a world that had moved on without me. I needed to focus on myself, even if I wanted a mate or someone to warm my bed, it simply wasn't feasible right now. But I had to listen to my therapist, and I had to go on a date or my residency on this island could be called into question.

So, I walked into the restaurant with every intent on leaving early and wishing the poor lass luck on her future mating adventures, but instead I was almost ran over by the very date I Intended to let down easy.

My date, who had long and thick hair colored like a raven. My date, who smelled like patchouli and rain. My date, who I'd have to convince to stay, because there was no way I'd let her go now.

2.5⭐️ I liked parts of this, and didn’t enjoy others. This is an insta-lust fated mates type situation which is fine, but it was VERY insta. Especially for our zombie fae MMC.
Ok I think my biggest complaint would be that there were so many other side characters that we were setting up for their own stories(which was their sole purpose, they did little for the plot) Literally every future pairing is established in this book. So the actual main characters didn’t have much actual development…? Maybe. I dunno something felt off.

Also very horrible things have happened to our characters in the past but the writing style is very quirky/casual so it didn’t feel as epically traumatic as it would have been.
Then things were hinted at (example: our FMC having scars both self-inflicted and from traumatic events) that were mentioned in passing then never revisited.

I like the idea of a small island full of kooky monsters and paranormal characters but this book felt like it couldn’t decide if it was cozy or dark or just straight up fae smut.

This book was fun and definitely not bad.

There's a lot of richness to this world -- too much, I think, because there are just so many characters and so many backstories. The plot itself was simple and fast because so little actually happened (and we find out about a lot of what little does happen in a couple quick hearsay scenes), which made this book feel heavy despite its limited plot.

I also found the writing a little cumbersome -- probably, again, because the bulk of this book is details and background, not the occurrence of actual events.

This started off pretty good until I noticed that most of what I read was all inner monologue and it never stops. I feel like I barely read any interaction with Cliona and Patrick and there was also a lot of tell and not show, and my biggest pet peeve is being introduced to 10+ different characters while also being pummeled with their back story. There was so much going on but also nothing? Idk I had a hard time connecting with the characters and just stopped caring

'Simplemente rocé mis labios con los de ella. Sentí nuestra magia chocar instantáneamente como un enjambre de todas las cosas buenas del mundo; la alegría que brotaba entre nosotros era algo tangible y embriagador. Había oído hablar de esto de los ancianos, y si quedaba alguna duda en mi mente de que ella era mi verdadera pareja, se evaporó con la emoción que inundó mi alma por el pequeño pero extremadamente poderoso roce de nuestros labios.'

Resurrecting the Witch de Bevin Shea

Argumento:

Okay, so “Resurrecting the Witch” by Bevin Shea gave me cozy paranormal rom com vibes, which I thought made for a really great read! The two main POV characters, Patrick and Cliona, were both interesting characters, and I enjoyed learning about them and their pasts. Patrick was a zombie, which was intriguing for me because I don’t normally read about zombies, but I loved how devoted he was to Cliona, right from the beginning. Cliona was a witch, the most powerful witch on their small island, and although she was respected and beloved by all, she didn’t seem to realize that. Cliona wasn’t snobby, she was actually really down to earth, which I liked. I also thought the unique way the island was set up was intriguing. All in all, I enjoyed this read!!!

Flirty and Fun!

Picked this one up on a whim. It’s a little different than my usual picks and I am SO glad that I did! The dialogue between all of the characters is absolutely hilarious! I felt like I wanted to be a part of their circle and that I might even fit right in!

Patrick is an absolute dream and wish all men were just like him… although maybe not the undead, I still crave brains part? Wanting to have a man so fiercely claim me as his in front of anyone at all times has never been such a need as it is after these two!

Great story and I can’t wait to check out some more of the HOMES books!

I love Zombies. I love Rom Com. I really love #ZomRomCom. Blind date with a zombie? Yes, please.

Who knew that Irish Fae Warrior Zombie's could be sooooooooo hot, so delicious and so alpha! Man, Patrick has some dirty lips on his undead face.

Cliona is a baddie. There is so much trauma from her past. But she is surrounded by a truly patient group of found family.

Patrick and Cliona were feral for each other. I love seeing the restraint of Patrick of learning how to date in the 21st century.

So fun. Loved every second.

I'm excited to see the other couples that come out of HOMES (and future books).

I must be solidly in my monster era.

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: Resurrecting the Witch by Bevin Shea

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Paranormal romance, monster romance, insta-love, small town romance, opposites attract.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Cliona is still reeling from being the only member of her coven to survive a gruesome attack. And her magic - the entire coven’s magic - is slowly tearing her apart. When she goes on a blind date and meets Patrick, she immediately knows there’s something different about the undead fae. Probably because he’s her fated mate.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I ate this up! Perfect length, perfect balance, and Patrick was simply 👌.

I think one of my favorite tropes might be “I’m a monster I don’t understand modern dating.” And Bevin Shea wrote Patrick as this powerful and very cocky fae zombie who immediately knows Cliona is his, but must conform to modern society to woo her.

And you get some chuckles, sure. But you also get some seriously swoony moments as well. And the spice - because he’s got some serious BDE - is just an added bonus.

I can’t wait to read more about this quirky little island and the next set of monsters to pair off.

🔮 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲: Easy. If you’re familiar with the paranormal at all you’ll be fine!

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3.55/5 🌶🌶🌶

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀: Because I can’t resist talking about this book, Getting it on with the Gargoyles by Hazel Mack is a must read, 5-star small town, sweet monster romance I’m trying to force everyone to read.

I wanted to like this but it's so meh. Enough typos during the first 22% that I was taking notice. A completely unauthentic and cliche "Irish" accent didn't make it better. When Edward Scissorhands, excuse me, Bert, was the hair dresser next door, I knew I wouldn't get much farther. Then Patrick was called "Patty" (iykyk) and group "therapy" turned into talking about Patrick his raging erection, and I gave up in disgust. The characters are bland and trite.

My tastes have a tendency to run a bit toward the Tina Belcher side of things so I thought this book would be right up my alley. However, the execution left much to be desired for me.

First of all, I noticed almost immediately, within the first chapter, that this book was going to suffer from a not entirely uncommon writing style that is a huge pet peeve of mine and a part of the reason why I am often wary of first person perspective, especially when it's a dual perspective novel. There is so much inner monologue that goes on, even in the middle of conversations between characters, that sometimes I would lose track of the dialogue and have to reread sections in order to catch what was being said between characters. Someone would ask a question and then there would be four paragraphs worth of inner monologue of whichever MC's head we were in at that moment before we would get the answer to that question, meaning by the time I got the answer I forgot what the question had been.

And that particular issue is a trait of the larger problem that I had with the writing style overall, which was that it was very expository. There was so much world building and characterization going on, and yet it still felt like a huge number of events that were interesting and worthy of being their own stories were explained to us as exposition. Both of our MCs have fascinating, dramatic backstories that left them with the trauma they are trying to overcome in this book but I was honestly more interested in reading about those backstories than I was in the plot line of this book.

And that actually happened quite often, that sense of having missed out on the events that I was the most interested in seeing, instead having characters describe them to me after the fact. It started with the very first date that our MCS went on, where a chapter in our mmc's POV built up all this tension and ended with a moment of frozen anticipation and I continued on to the next chapter in our fmc's POV and suddenly it was the next morning and I felt like I was getting cheated out of seeing the most interesting parts of the interaction. And this just kept happening over and over again. In fact, several of the dates between our MCs occur off page.

That fatal flaw of telling instead of showing was really a shame with this book because the interaction that we did get to see between our MCS was very well done. The sexual tension and the heart fluttery moments were all on point. I just wish that there had been more of them, that there had been less telling us about the MCS falling for each other and more showing us how it happened.

A part of the reason why I think we don't get more of that like what I was craving is because, for a relatively short novel, so much of the on-page time was spent with our MCS interacting with other characters on the island instead of with each other. And, on the one hand, I enjoyed those interactions immensely because every single character in this book was very interesting and felt three-dimensional. I honestly wanted to see more of all of them. The setup for further books in the series giving each of them their own stories was top-notch. But it should not have come at the sacrifice of interactions between our MCs. It felt a little bit like the author was leaning on the faded mates trope in order to create the connection between our MCs and make up for the fact that there was less time being spent on developing the main romance than there should have been.

All In all, the balance between what I took issue with and what I loved about this book would have made it a solid 3 stars. What dropped it down by one additional star was the poor editing. There were a lot of typos and spelling issues, and grammar issues peppered throughout the book. There were also some sentences that were worded in ways that were stilted and unnatural enough that they took my mind out of the story because they interrupted the flow. It almost made me wonder if this was written by someone for whom English was not their first language. It reminded me of editing papers of foreign exchange students, who speak fluent English but sometimes make word choices that don't quite fit as well as a different synonym would have and write sentences in an order that works in their native tongue but sounds strange and off-putting in English.

Despite all of the problems that I had with it, the good parts of this book were good enough that I don't think I would shy away from reading the second in the series. But at the same time I also probably am not going to put release dates for further books on my calendar and seek them out in particular. If I happen across more books in this series, though, I imagine I could easily pass an afternoon reading another.

Book Info:Resurrecting the Witch
Series Info:Resurrecting the Witch isn't listed as a series, however I follow the author on instagram and there is another book in the same universe, featuring characters we've already met so...
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice Rating: 🔥🔥🔥
PoV:
Dual
Ending: HEA + Epilogue
Genre: Monster/Paranormal Romance
Re-readability: YES

⛔️Triggers:⛔️ Past Trauma, Mild Violence, Graphic Sexual Description

Content/Tropes/Kinks: Instaconnection, Blind Date, Plus-Size Heroine, Small Town, New In Town, Mates, Dominant MMC, Found Family, Grief, Best Friends, Close Community, Lots of Paranormal Beings

Monster Content: Heightened Sense of Smell, Needs to eat animal brains

Thoughts: I absolutely adored this story! I loved Cliona and how real she felt, I personally understand grief and trauma and while the book was light-hearted I felt it covered the real effects of grief and loss. I absolutely adored Patrick's instant connection to Cliona, and how much he loved her body just as it was. The description of Cliona being plus-sized didn't feel overdone or coming from a place of body hate either, there was an appreciation for her curves and softness, which I LOVED.

Lennox + Cliona is just EVERYTHING! Honestly Lennox is everything. If we get to hear her story, I'm going to be so anxious to know what hurt her, because I already love her so much.

Schmidt defense. I honestly cackled. I loved it so so so much.

The only complaint I have about the whole thing is it felt like there were a few things that we didn't get to see between Patrick and Cliona that were teased during the story, but honestly it ended really well, with Cliona owning her fecking ;) power. Though I NEED to know what Gil's reaction to Lennox being knocked out what "LENNOX NEXT" ummm do you have feelings we need to discuss doctor?! I also NEEDED to know did Patrick tell Cliona how much Schmidt was doing as her familiar, that she didn't even realize? What about Lennox and Rory. See just questions but honestly I loved loved this story so much! That's why I want to know more!!

I wanted to live in this world and never come out. This book perfectly captures my love of cozy surroundings, wholesome friendships, and happily ever after romance. I think this book is going to become my go-to reread. I can't wait to learn more about these characters and immerse myself in their stories. I'm interested to see how the author's many teased couplings pan out.

Summary : This is the first book in the series. Cliona is anxiously awaiting the arrival of her blind date. It has been a while since she has dated anyone; this is her first date after the horrendous incident, and it took a lot of courage for her to merely sit here. Her pals will undoubtedly kill her if she flees now.

It has been six months since Patrick woke up in his grave, and he is still trying to figure out this modern world. It is safe to say that he doesn't want to go on any blind dates, especially when they are suggested by a dating app. That is, until he collides with his escape date. As soon as he takes a look at her, his heart does one eighty. He must now persuade her to stay since he cannot bear the thought of losing her.

Plot and Writing :

I entered my shoppe and took a deep inhale. The soil and plant scent immediately set my nerves at ease, and I got to work.

Written beautifully in first person from a dual POV, it has a great plot with a cozy and spicy romance. It focuses on a witch and a zombie, i.e., Cliona and Patrick's romance. Along with a lot of unpredictable twists.

The pacing is neither fast nor slow, and it holds the reader's attention from the start.

The World : The book takes place on a secluded island in the Pacific that is inaccessible to humans. It welcomes all kinds of monsters and some humans, given that they pass the background check. Having faced atrocities at the hands of evil, this island was built as a safe haven by the O'Cuinn clan for all the people living here. The author has put in so many details about culture and traditions that I felt like I was a part of this world.

Characters : Each and every character in this book is well developed and has complex personalities. Both main characters have baggage and traumatic pasts that, together with their romance, constitute the center of the story. I adored the development arc given to both of them. And although this book has a vast variety of characters, all of them are so adorable that every one of them touched my heart, and I could not help but become involved in their individual stories as well.

"...I didn't know how to love myself until you brazenly loved me enough until I could get on the same page..."

Heartwarming friendships and connections form the book's invisible framework.

"...Tell me, mo gra, how can I make muself worthy of your time? I will do whatever it requires. Just tell me who to kill or whi to maim or whicj lands need to be seized."

Romance : I adored Ciona and Patrick's chemistry. And admired how they worked on themselves to develop a positive and loving relationship between them, despite the fact that they were initially so different from one another. I also loved Patrick's old-school ways and his all-in nature.

Even though this book is a paranormal romance, I think every romance reader should pick it up.

I received an ARC of this book, for my honest review.

The FMC and MMC meet on a disastrous first date where she is already crying when he walks in, and I don’t think he would’ve stayed if he didn’t immediately realize she was his fated mate. I don’t like feeling like the MCs have nothing to bring them together outside of the magic bond between them, and this reeks of that.

Their other dates were basic fare: coffee, a movie, open mic night, dinner at her place, Netflix and chill. Half of them actually occurred offscreen and are just mentioned to have happened. None of them really brought the delicious getting-to-know-you energy I look for in a romance novel.

The “please sir” “good girl” dynamic is not really my kink, and the fact that the FMC is a plus sized woman over the age of 25 and still afraid she might break her partner by sitting on his face made me sad, not happy. Honestly, a lot of things to do with FMC made me feel that way… the fact that she thinks a Pinterest-worthy plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and s’mores fixings is an extravagance, the fact that MMC can put groceries away in her place and find the cutting board without asking about every little thing is enough to impress her (although I would love it if she later noticed that he put bread in the freezer and eggs on the counter because that’s how they do it across the pond or something lol).

I hated the fact that FMC was too depressed to deal with her magic powers for five years until it nearly killed her… I mean, imagine if it was some mundane condition that came about as a result of that night… like she broke her foot running and needed surgery and just didn’t do anything about it for years and years? You’d think that she was self-harming. Which she was, I mean it’s mentioned in the narrative, but it’s so depressing, and for a novel that’s all about this safe haven community, found family, finding love and acceptance… I just don’t know. Maybe his novel just wasn’t for me, with where I am on my journey now.

Cozy/Small town Paranormal romance, Found family, Witchy vibes, Mates, Plus-Size FMC, Dual POV, HEA.

This was a one day read for me, I was sucked in to this book right away!
Cliona, our FMC is a witch, and the only one left of her coven/family who runs an island where paranormal beings live separated from humans.
Patrick, our MMC is a Fae who has recently been brought back from the dead( Zombie) and is the newest resident of Haven Pass.
The two are set up on a blind date, and Patrick realizes Cliona is his true mate. Cliona is struggling with trauma from her past and trying to work through her power being without a coven, while Patrick is coming to terms with being brought back to life and adjusting to the new world.
Weird things start happening around Haven Pass and the couple must work together with their friends to figure out the disturbances and Cliona’s powers.

I loved reading about Patrick and Cliona. It’s refreshing when the FMC is plus size, but the entire story doesn’t revolve around it, and when it’s referenced it’s not a “I hate my body, I’m not worthy” storyline.
Cliona was a girl after my own heart with her black hair, combat boots, and her favorite movie being the original John Carpenter Halloween!? I related to her so much.
Patrick was a supportive cinnamon roll Fae-zombie with a dirty mouth 😂❤️
I loved reading about this couple, and hope there are more books about Haven Pass to come!

I didn't remember what this one was about because I picked it up at a free ebook event except it is small town and the heroine is a witch.

Cliona is an earth witch and has anxiety. She runs the island and town as a safe haven for paranormal beings and tired souls. I loved how this gave Spindle Cove vibes except it isn't just women in the town. She has agreed to a date with a man she was matched with on a dating app but doesn't know how he looks. Then, she gets scared and her past causes her anxiety to rise, almost leaving she runs into the hero.

Patrick is an Irish fae zombie (I thought he was an orc from the cover) and is instantly drawn to Cliona, knowing she is his mate. There is some culture clash as he was from a simpler time where is a man wanted a female, he would just ask her or court her. He is an alpha and even is part of a support group called "Alpha". I found it funny how they watch reality tv and discuss the norms of the modern day so they can fit in. There was a daddy kink going on and Patrick was an alphamellow.

The heroine grows herbs that she sells to the businesses in the town. She has alot of responsibilities as head of her clan but after a tragedy, is holding back from forming her coven. This is bad for her body as she cannot contain all that energy. But the hero's touch and presence eases this pressure on her. She follows the goth aesthetic.

There was definitely encompassed a cosy small town vibe as the supporting characters all know one another and meddle. I liked that her coven didn't necessarily need to be made up of witches.

This felt too draggy towards the end. There isn't as much anxiety rep as I would like except at the start.

Tropes: Fated mates, alpha hero, found family

This is probably my second favorite read of the season. TBH, the bar isn’t super high, but this book was solid.

The Good:
- I enjoyed Cliona and Patrick. They were cute together. His intensity toward her was very intense, but I appreciated that he respected her boundaries.
- I really like the magic island concept.

The Not As Good:
- The writing was okay. I thought some of the language choices were a bit cringey.
- There were parts of the book where there were two many characters involved in one scene (lol is that the right term…? Haha) and it became overwhelming and confusing.

The ✨Spice✨: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
- This book was relatively spicy and I felt it was spread out pretty evenly throughout the book.
- Patrick was very focused on Cliona and her enjoyment, which, who the hell is complaining about.

The Recommendation:
- I would recommend this book to someone who needs some brain candy and wants a bit of magick.
-I would not recommend this book to someone who doesn’t have patience for cringe interactions between characters.

I'm selective about paranormal romances, but this caught my eye. I love curvy girl representation and Cliona trying to find her place spoke to me. I am so glad I read this. Cliona is so strong and she has no idea. She thinks her town shouldn't trust her and they see her truth, that she's such a courageous woman. And Patrick… ooh Patrick, he's trying to find his footing, who he is and where he stands… and they meet each other. They really connect and their love story and their love for the island truly brings this story to life. The supporting characters are epic and I am eager to know how their journeys will unfold in future books. The spice is so on point for the story!!

The story does revolve around grief, so that is something to be aware of.

If you enjoy a good paranormal romance, I highly recommend this book.

🧙‍♀️Book Review🧟‍♂️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I honestly had to much fun reading this book. You got a curvy FMC and the MMC is a total worshiper of her. Literally from the moment they met in a fae bar after matching on a dating site. I love how Patrick was learning the new Era and Cliona, you just couldn't help but love her. She had a hard life but man she got some great friends surrounding her. I love the vibe of this paranormal romance. I mean, I do not think I have ever read about a zombie as a main lover and I honestly was pleasantly surprised but then again Patrick is Bae. So it made it that much more better. If you enjoy cozy paranormal romances or silly rom-coms pick up this book now. You will not regret it at all.

Note: Resurrecting The Witch is a small town paranormal romance with adult themes and content.

It was a 3.5 for me, but I gave 4 cause, well, you know.
It's not a bad book. it just was a bit too much in some areas. There is too much innerdialog that makes it feel like it was stretching on too long.
It's instalove for the mmc. So if that's not your cup of tea, then this isn't for you. I don't mind it in a story, and I love how possessive Patrick it.
Cliona is a bit annoying. First, she's anxious and sad and shuts herself off, but in a switch, she's mad and stubborn. But she's also a bit of a bad ass too!
I feel like the story could have been a bit expanded on, and it ended a bit abruptly leaving some things not explained.
It's a good read for halloween!
I do love the town! And the side character. And there is some fun banter and funny innerdialog moments.
All in all it's was an okay read.
It just won't be some people's best choice. Everyone has preferences.
Happy reading!

I really wanted to like this book. I liked all the characters, this small little safe haven island of monsters, and the plot. I actually didn’t care that it was very much instant love and also urban fantasy. I want much more of all of that and way less smut, the use of Female or Male, Alpha this and Alpha that and also I really don’t need to know that everyone can smell when anyone is turned on. There was always smut in situations that were serious and didn’t need it. Like when everyone was talking about the threat that was coming and the main characters start making out so heavily that another character (probably smelled them) basically said can we get back to his very important thing. OR when the “alpha” group therapy meeting spend a whole meet discussing the main male characters erection.

Super fast paced, cute & cozy paranormal rom com story of a Witch High Priestess named Cliona & her Zombie man Patrick.

First dates are never easy - blind first dates tend to be worse... off to what she knew to be a rocky start, Cliona didn't stand a chance against Patrick's smooth Irish talking suave-ness. For him, it was love at first sight with his "peata/grá" (pet/love).

He is smitten from the start with secrets that come into play later giving this romance a story and she is reluctant because of her past and the weight on her shoulders. Once they reveal their truths, the spice hits and it's, chefs kiss!

I feel like if you've ever wondered about the world of monster romance, this would be a great intro!

Personally I really loved this book, the world building, character’s personality, and the lightness I felt when reading was great.
Honestly my only complaint is how short it is lol, I wish it was longer!! I loved the main characters but I wish the scenes were more developed and detailed. Don’t get me wrong for being a short book it was heavily detailed and even the “bigger” scenes where written well, I just wish we could’ve seen more and learned more. I love Cliona and Patrick’s relationship I just wish we got to see more of it, they both have a lot of trauma and history that wasn’t fully fleshed out and talked about, plus it would be good to see more fluff(and smut lol)!!

Overall, a very cute and cozy read, I can’t wait to read the second one and learn more about the world!!

I think this paranormal world made by Bevin Shea is so charming and sweet, but populated with beings who are dealing with heavy stuff, in a perfect mix for an October romance read.

Both books take place on a hidden magical island protected by the magic of the high priestess, where magical beings of all types and humans escaping the worst parts of the normal world. One of the things every newcomer to the island has to do is therapy and honestly YES, make this a rule for the whole world.

Resurrecting the Witch - Patrick, a newly undead fae from Ireland, and Cliona, the leader witch who is still recovering from her ex fiancee literally murdering her whole family, are matched by a paranormal dating app. Cliona doesn’t know if she’s ready to pursue love again, but Patrick knows she’s his fated mate, so will do anything at all to make her life easier and also to make her fall for him. Both are dealing with serious ptsd issues from their past, but together they can overcome that and any new danger lurking off the island.

I loved both of these for their:
🧛 plus sized heroines
🧟normalizing therapy and gentle handling of ptsd
🧛fated mates
🧟absolute badass strong women
🧛found family 🩷🩷
🧟possessive in the right way mmcs
🧛cool and well developed side characters
🧟fun magical world

Shea is on a bit of a break for family growing, but when she comes back to write more of this series, I’ll be first in line to devour them!

I didn’t like anything about this. Yet it sucked me in and I kept reading so 2 stars I guess.

How did trauma dumping suddenly become a dom/sub sex scene? Honestly the sex in general in this book was all such a turn off for me, which is shocking because I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a book including ‘good girl’ and ‘sir’ but this very much had the opposite of a desired affect on me.

I know it’s book 1 in a series but considering it looks like the next book (and I assume others that may follow) follow other couples, there were a lot of things that felt unanswered by the end of this story. I feel like that’s uncommon with companion series vs having direct sequels.

Not for me but hopefully if you pick this up, it’s for you.

Thank you Author Bevin Shea and @boundbymischief for the ARC! I am voluntarily leaving this review. The story begins at a blind date between a zombie and a witch. That's already enough to draw me into the story. Cliona has been through some trauma y'all and she blames herself for a horrible incident that happened to her family. Patrick shares an insta-love moment with Cliona and is it getting hot in here or is it just these two? This paranormal romance is so interesting! Cliona and Patrick are both navigating their new roles in a place that is essentially a haven for witches, zombies and the like. Read this and prepared to get hot and bothered!

First of all- we love a curvy, body positive FMC.

Insta-love can be great in a monster romance, but it seemed a little awkward at times. Like Patrick would just announce to their group he was “craving something” between her legs in the middle of a very important discussion. It just felt like a totally inappropriate and unrealistic way to show that the MMC was obsessed with the FMC.
Personal opinion: The phrase “raw dog” will never be hot and should never be used in a romantic scene.
Also, the second half of the book seemed to have a ton of random typos that I didn’t notice as much in the first half.

I adore the concept of this series! I love the idea of a community of supernatural beings having a safe place to exist! I do love the characters, and I am excited to read the rest of the series!
My biggest issue with this book is that it definitely needs some more editing! There were more than a few typos, and some sentences and sections didn’t make sense due to weirdly formatted sentences. Normally I can read past a few errors, but there were so many that it took me out of the story a few times! I do genuinely love this universe and the small town monster romance vibes, so I’ll most definitely keep reading all the books!

ARC Review

OMG! This story was fantastic. I enjoyed it so much. I love Cliona and Patrick. I'm so glad we were able to see the beginning of their relationship in their day to day life. They complimented each other to every detail imaginable. Also, I loved how supportive her friends aka found family were. Resurrecting The Witch was an excellent read. I would definitely be purchasing my copy when it comes out. 10/10 recommended 👌 I was truly honored to review this master piece. Please support this author and check out this book on Amazon. 🕊
