Ok my original language isn't english but I'll try to write my opinions to improve the language.

This book is really amazing, but there are things that I don't like so much about the possible relationship and I hope they will be resolved later. Despite that, the plot and the theme that this volume was about seemed very good to me, I feel that it was treated with a lot of subjectivity and more subjects like this should be treated with the same level of importance.

I'm eager to start the next volume.

Review:
Book 7 takes a turn from the previously established style of pacing and storytelling in volumes 1-6. After the explosive events of book 6, we now follow Seigi 1 year later as an apprentice under Saul in Sri Lanka. We find out early on that his dreams of becoming a civil servant in Japan were dashed at the interview stage, and so now he is abroad for the foreseeable future, training to have a more discerning eye for gems.

Meanwhile, Richard continues to man the Ginza shop on his own, and the two have very little contact. That is, until Seigi gets a mysterious email saying "help Richard," which sends him on a wild goose chase halfway around the world to a luxurious cruise ship in Florida. Seigi quickly realizes that something's not quite right, and when he meets Richard aboard the ship, his suspicions are confirmed. Someone wanted him there to cause more harm than good.

Book 7 therefore takes place entirely on the cruise ship where an American jewellery company celebrates its 100th anniversary in the business. Unlike in book 1-6, Seigi and Richard do not team up to help clients with their personal problems. Instead, Richard attempts to distance himself from Seigi as much as possible and, when the latter gets into trouble, Richard holes himself up in a security office to help him out with his predicament.

Instead of the usual Seigi/Richard detective combo, we are introduced to a new character, Vincent Lai, who sticks to Seigi and helps him with his investigation for most of the novel. Vince is an interesting character, and the ending of book 7 suggests we are not done seeing him just yet as he somehow becomes involved in a plot against Richard.

Another central character in book 7 is the abhorrent "uncle" to Richard and the CEO of the jewellery company being celebrated on the ship. Everything about this man is revolting, and his frequent and incessant sexual harassment of his "nephew" angers Seigi beyond reason. You will recall from book 6 just how much Seigi struggled with the idea of his inherent violence because of his father. Well, book 7 highlights this once more and shows Seigi fighting with himself to not beat this man up to a pulp anytime he sees him. Seigi is very protective of Richard in this book and often glares at or interposes himself between Richard and other people to shield him from view. Weirdly enough, Richard lets him do it, but he still acts very cold and distant compared to book 6.

For a split second, my mind went completely blank before it was drenched in pitch black. I couldn't move or even groan. I couldn't hit him, either. That was the number one thing I couldn't do. I was glad I'd somewhat braced myself for something like this. But it didn't seem like there was anything I could do about the look in my eyes, and when Mr. Karlsbrook looked as me, he took a step back. My apologies--apparently, I can look pretty scary in moments like these.

The two are still very much in the stage of dancing around one another, and at times book 7 feels as though we've gone back 100 steps in their progress. The epilogue however redeems Richard for his strange behaviour. He decides to visit Seigi on a whim in Sri Lanka and finds that Seigi has been practicing a specific recipe for months for his benefit. Leave it to Seigi to while away romantically as he dedicates himself to perfecting a dessert for Richard even though he has no idea if he will see him again any time soon.

There were words that I wanted to say in Japanese and others that felt easier to express in English, but they were both becoming mine. For example, this was something that I really wanted to say in English.
I wish you were here.
I wish you were here to eat the food I made.
I don't know if you'll like it, but I'd be happy if you gave it a try.

It's quite nice to see Seigi more mature and independent in this volume. For the first time in the series, he doesn't think about nor mention Tanimoto. It would seem that his heart-to-heart with her in the last book really helped him realize that she will never love him the way he would want her to, and that he has has to respect her personal choices regarding relationships, dating, and marriage.

Instead, we see Seigi think seriously about his future, his dreams, and his immediate goals regarding his current journey as an apprentice jeweller.

Overall, book 7 is a welcomed change of pace from books 1-6, but the main mystery (and plot point) is a bit underwhelming, and Richard's aloofness for most of the book is puzzling. Sure, he doesn't want Seigi to get in trouble on his behalf, but surely there are better ways of doing that than attempting to steer clear of him entirely.

I gave this one a 3.5 stars, but this is not a reflection on the series. I still very much love this story to bits, and I'm curious to see where book 8 will take Seigi and Richard on their journey.

"Are you finally starting to have blood sugar issues?"

Since the anime ended with the events of volume six, this newest volume was unknown territory for me. I kind of knew what to expect, somewhat, because I have a nasty habit of spoiling myself by reading the TV Tropes pages for this series, but that only gives a very limited perspective. Basically, Seigi gets called to a jewelry-centric cruise to "help Richard" - but in what capacity, Seigi doesn't know. He soon finds himself caught up in a situation involving Richard's distant relative, this distant relative's second-in-command, and of course, a piece of jewelry.

Seigi and Richard's relationship continues to grow, even through their temporary separation. It's clear that Seigi yearns for Richard's presence and guidance even though they're in different countries, and he values Richard so much that he would drop everything to go to an unknown place just because he got an inkling that Richard might be in need of help. And though we don't always know what goes through Richard's mind like the way we know what Seigi thinks, it's still clear that Richard values Seigi a lot as well.

What I appreciated about this volume was how it called back to the events of the past. Oftentimes, in multi-volume series, certain things - even the most impactful ones - get handwaved or completely forgotten. With this series, however, the significant events that happened to Seigi and Richard in the past aren't brushed off and are consistently brought up again, and you also witness the after-effects of such events to our characters. From Richard's broken engagement to Seigi's stalker incident, these events are instrumental in our characters' decision-making and also in moving the plot forward. With the way this second act of the series (from volume seven to volume twelve) is going, it seems like Richard's past is once again catching up to him and Seigi.

Another thing is that this volume, once again, tackles some difficult themes. First and foremost would be sexual harassment and abuse of power, especially in corporate culture. While it wasn't the most in-depth exploration of such themes, I thought that it was still presented realistically in terms of how people handled situations and the resolution to that conflict. It wasn't resolved cleanly and things get brushed under the rug, but that's the case with real life anyway.

The epilogue closes the volume out with something that isn't necessarily a cliffhanger but rather more like an open ending? It raises more questions instead of answers, and I'm curious to see what direction the series will be taking in the future.

Volume 7 of The Case Files of Jeweler Richard marks the start of a new chapter in Seigi and Richard’s story with an engaging change of scenery. Seigi has just started a jeweler’s apprenticeship in Sri Labka! And we get to go on a cruise ship, folks! After only a month of his apprenticeship, Seigi gets a set of emails from a mysterious sender, and he has to get on a cruise with no information more detailed than “help Richard.” Drama and antics ensue.

The second story in this volume is a stand-out for me because it was very hard to read. It deals heavily with sexual assault and other unmitigated misconduct by a person who wants to get close to Richard. I thought author Tsujimura did a great job illustrating the impact of sexual assault on the loved ones of a victim, but not the impacts on the victim themself. But of course, Richard isn’t one to let show how those kinds of actions are affecting him in the moment. Reading some of these scenes made me physically ill, and like Seigi, I was so ready to punch the assaulter straight in his smug, wrinkly face. This material might be unsafe for some people to read, so keep your mental health in mind before picking up this book.

We also get to meet another character from Richard’s past: his old assistant from the shop in Hong Kong. I appreciated hearing about Richard from somebody who genuinely admired him as a person, and not just for his looks. Although things didn’t work out between them, it seems like they’re both moving on okay. And of course, we get a great foil for Seigi.

The epilogue of this volume once again brings Seigi and Richard to the same place and introduces a new antagonist, so it seems like things will get very interesting from here. Excited for the next volume in July!

Every couple of months we're graced with a new Jeweler Richard novel and I can't get enough.
This time, Seigi is in Sri Lanka studying to be a jeweler, when he received a mysterious email telling him to help Richard, who'll be at an auction in a cruise.
The main aspect of the book is Richard's distant uncle, Karlsbrook. This main is a piece of shit. Karlsbrook is a predator and Richard has been harassed by him several times. And they're related......
Richard has been harassed so many times that this sort of behaviour has become somewhat normal to him. It's heartbreaking how people take advantage of him because of his beauty. Male sexual assault victims don't get as much support as they should, since society has this view that "men can't be assaulted". It's time we stop with those old gendered prejudices and believe that all genders can be victims and all victims need support. Richard has been put in so many inappropriate situations because of his looks...there was even a champagne drinking competition between grown women who were into Richard at a party, when he was about 15...
This situation also shows how rich people can get away with things like these because of their money and status. Karlsbrook is absolutely disgusting and doesn't hide it, but his employees are too scared to go against him. He's assaulted many people around him, everyone knows and yet they're scared of saying it.
We also meet Vince, a character who used to work with Richard in Hong Kong. Vince is a geek, he likes anime and video games, but he has a complicated past with Richard. He was struggling at the time and it's clear he wishes Richard had been a mentor to him, like he is to Seigi. He's also working with a girl named Octavia, who's bound to cause a lot of trouble....
On a more positive note, the casino scene was everything. I swear this scene had it all. The clever tricks, Richard and Seigi flirting, them unmasking a criminal... It was awesome.

The: Sexual assault, sexual assault of minors mentioned.

The relationship between Richard and Seigi and how it's developing as Seigi begins his life outside of school is interesting and well-handled. The way Seigi describes the experience of living in a foreign country just after graduating from university resonated with me. The story that progressed on the cruise also examined the different ways people can develop relationships with others, and even when two people get to know the same person under similar circumstances, their perspectives can differ a lot depending on a variety of factors. I wasn't all too fond of the "uncle" character and found his involvement in the story to be a bit off-putting, and I found the whole backstory behind the missing jewelry piece kind of confusing. I am interested in hearing more about Richard's story in Hong Kong and how it involves the new character Vince. Another solid installment in the series overall.

A bit short but fast paced

We see a lot of emotional development for seigi in this volume even if the surrounding story is fast paced. This is clearly a set up for a much larger arc that begins at the end of this book so be sure not to miss it!

"I felt like I saw a flash of loneliness, like the shadow of a fish moving beneath the vast surface of the water"
This volume was way more serious in its tone than any of the other volumes. Richard deserves the world and more. And the creep deserves jail time.
Seigi to the rescue once again. My boy stays winning.

Well it definitely wasn't my favorite one - it's just such a rough transition to be tossed out of the Ginza shop way earlier than expected. I liked the dynamic of Seigi seeing (and seething over) the pushy people Richard must regularly encounter but I wasn't a huge fan of the cruise, or Vince - though I'm hoping he'll grow on me. It was nice to see Richard visit Seigi in Sri Lanka, and plan to have that be more of a regular thing. I was surprised by how much I missed Tanimoto and how much more I wanted of Jeffrey in this one! I think I just need time to settle into this new location, we've had Ginza as the base for so long!

'''i'm very glad to see you,' he said, smiling a smile so dazzling that surely even the florida sun would want to hide behind a cloud in shame.''

Just like the previous volumes, this volume is also enjoyable and well-researched, even probably based on the writer's own experience. I'd like to think it's hard to write about what cruise ships and jewelry exhibitions, or even life in a small town in Srilanka, are like unless one's been to one. Vince Lai seems to be an interesting addition to the cast too — I hope he'll be a returning character! However, I'm kind of not sure about the development with the 'a very young former Richard student is out for revenge' thing. It feels too... contrived, more fitting to a story of a more fantastical setting. But the final verdict about this should be made only after I read the next volumes, I guess.

Anyway, one of the things I love about Jeweler Richard is its commentary on both Japanese and foreign cultures. For instance, in this volume, Seigi raised a rightful complaint: someone claiming to be Jeffrey had sent an email titled just "Help Richard". The problem is, 'help' is the same word used in the sense of 'assisting' and in times of emergency, and Seigi could not know for sure what "Jeffrey" meant (In Japanese, the two senses are covered by two separate words, 手伝う and 助ける — if Jeffrey had asked Seigi 'tetsudatte', I think Seigi wouldn't be that confused). Discussions on such matters really make the series even more interesting.

I have never hated a character more than I’ve ever hated this - what was it Seigi called him? - tacky little kewpie doll. Like I give Seigi major fucking props because I would have lost my shit ten seconds into seeing that old troll putting his hands on Richard. Though the fact that he didn’t, that he actually listened to Richard, even if it cost him, shows how far Seigi has come. And it was so fucking heartbreaking, seeing what Richard had to put up with. I’ll give you this thought - I liked the mystery and the little plot twit at the end. Vincent was someone I did not see coming and neither was Octavia. Both annoy me but I’m curious to learn about them.

I also kinda really like the new format. Instead of difference stories we have one specific story running through the book which allows us to get a deeper insight into Richard and Seigi. I feel like we get to expand the world a little more this way because the focus remains on these two.

Also the first two chapters broke my heart but the last one gave me life okay. I like that Seigis out of his funk and really expanding his horizons.

They are so heartwarming and they seem to always flirt with each other but...their relationship is so ambiguous that I keep wondering if I am just overthinking. Maybe it is just super supportive best friends? The ending was kind of romantic though... Overthinking?

Pacing continues to be an issue but I'm so invested in their relationship that I don't think I can stop. (I hope they would just make it clear already!) I am so glad that the story has moved away from "case files" and is about them now. There are still many areas where it is a drag and I skim over it. I hope it improves.

The harassment too me by surprise. Due to the relationship of Richard and him, it was so jarring. I couldn't wrap my head around it and I don't understand why it needed to be in the book. Why not just make them old acquaintances? Did the author change their mind half way writing? Strange.

This one’s easily my favourite volume so far. The story is intense from start to finish, packed with complex themes like harassment, theft, business conflict, and even a casino chase. No filler episodes, no plot holes—just a tightly woven, heart-pounding story.

I swear I’m not just saying this because I’m in love with Richard (though I totally am). This book genuinely shines. It’s such a shame the anime stopped at volume 6, because volume 7 had so many scenes that deserved to be animated: the stunning Queen of Heart ring, Seigi and Richard’s reunion on the ship, their hilarious moments, the action scenes, and their touching meeting in Sri Lanka… I can picture it all so vividly.

Overall, it’s a brilliant mix of serious storytelling with a light, sparkling tone—perfect if you’re in the mood for something engaging but not too heavy.

As always, Richard and Seigi were brilliant. The slow burn is only for the patient ones, so be aware. I admit I was sort of losing the plot on a couple occasions, but what wouldn’t I do for those two. I will watch them get their happy ending, no matter how many pages it takes. They deserve it.

The ending was straight out of a romantic movie. Seriously, guys…

On a different note, I really admire the author’s ability to write about very uncomfortable and heavy topics in a simple, light manner. In the previous volume is was domestic abuse and stalking, this time it was sexual harassment. We feel the pain and anger and my insides twist uncomfortably in my chest, but I can always trust that everything will end well.

Aaaa, these books always leave me craving for more and I have to endure the months of wait for the next...

This volume was my least favourite but "least favourite" in a series I adore so, so much is still great. Change of scenery was pretty nice but I missed the long passages of interesting things, gemstones or other.

(Btw, haven't met as slimy creep a character as Mr. Karlsbrook in a while, ewww)

I should've counted the times Seigi called Richard someone "he cares about", it's his new favourite way of describing him. ;D

*4.25-4.5 //

another lovely read! i appreciate the commentary on the unfortunate (sometimes, outright heinous) side effects of beauty. leah telling richard that 'beauty and sadness go hand in hand' ☹️☹️ i like to think that seigi has helped richard to feel not so overly burdened by his appearance.

i'm ngl, all the maneuvering happening + the new characters & dynamics introduced made my head spin, but i think i followed it better now during this reread, hehe. excited for catherine's appearance in the next volume!!

A cool new start into an entirely new arc of Seigi's life. I think this was the weakest volume of this series so far but still really exciting.

Especially going into Richard's ... Less peaceful sides of being so beautiful was super interesting.

It's honestly refreshing how this series is so transparent about its views on social issues. It doesn't shy away from discussing them, making it very sincere. I like how the beliefs and ideals present are so ingrained in the characters that it doesn't feel at all disingenuous. I mean, it just commits so much. Again, so refreshing. I also really appreciate the effort Seigi is making. His development is so obvious, and his previous trauma with his father wasn't brushed aside either. It was shown how it still affected him and his choices. It's the same with Richard—he's so much more open now with Seigi. Their relationship is so sincere; I really don't mind if it continues to be undefined because I can tell either way that they both care deeply about each other.
