The first time I read the Coffin City arc, I cried my eyes out.
It's still sad, but mostly I'm angry when I read it now.

This is most of the Yi City backstory, and it's just not my favourite part of MDZS, but seeing it in a new format was still fun.

Somehow the pacing of these volumes feel both slow and quick? Like?? As per usual the story is much pared down compared to the novel, but that's to be expected since they would hardly be able to draw every single aspect of the story without an hillarious amount of volumes.

Now we wait for the next volume.

No matter what format I go through the Yi City arc in I always want to cry. Xue Yang takes so much advantage of Xiao Xingchen’s blindness and kindness. And in the end it leads to Xingchen killing his best friend, and himself when he discovers the truth. I know Xingchen and Xue Yang are supposed to be foils of Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, but to see it/read it again makes my heart hurt. Why couldn’t Xingchen and Song Lan have their peaceful lives together with their adopted daughter A-Qing? 😭

E niente.

While I’ve always appreciated the Yi City Arc, it’s never been one of my favs in MDZS.
Getting to see little Wei Wuxian in this with his commentary during Empathy made this all the more enjoyable for me. Another brilliant volume for the manhua.

Ugh. The Yi City Coffin Arc is so incredibly morbid and sad, yet it’s so dang good and always sucks me in. Was disappointed this didn’t cover the entire arc, though.

The manhua’s are too short. They always leave me wanting more.
