Our heroes have been struggling to make headway in their quest to vanquish the Demon King. Is it because of the cat on the hero’s lap? Or is it because Red doesn’t have the heart to move the little guy? Meanwhile, a powerful foe awaits the party...a beautiful white cat!!
4.5 / 5: “In the end…I think stray cats decide for themselves where they truly belong.”
this was so sweet :’) the cat fever is strong in this volume; and i just love how this party keeps growing with each stray they find. i loved seeing them try & learn how to take care of them, and be so flustered when mr. cat & mr. black cat give them a hard time.
there was a bit that grace mentioned from a book he bought about cats (so he can learn how to take better care of mr. cat 😪), where it was very common for stray cats to live shorter lives because they don’t show much concern for their health as they’re just trying to survive day to day. this seems like plan old common sense to the average animal guru, but it made it hit harder watching the party still try to nurture these cats and make them as comfortable as possible.
probably one of my most favorite scenes was after they went to the vet, and red tried to reward mr. cat for surviving the needle by sitting on his lap (which mr. cat always loves sleeping on when it’s most inconvenient) but mr. cat was so petty and purposefully avoided the hand that was stretched out to him 😭😭😭 the art was so cute in that one, and everything else was just perfect fluff.
i needed it after reading some very angsty stories recently :’)
I was not expecting this second volume to be as great and funny as the first one but it was!! I really love this series.
It’s hard to say anything without spoilers! But what I can say is that this volume was more adventurous than the first one. We learn more about Red, we meet a beautiful cat with a really cool paranormal ability and a cat gets added to the party yayyy. Mr. cat’s new safe space is so original and I think the vet in this manga deserves a medal haha. And a Christmas bonus?!? What?! Like this wasn’t amazing enough already!
I read the word kitten and immediately preordered volume 3! I can’t wait!
Oh my goodness this was so freaking cute! I laughed so much out loud, I smiled the whole way through. I absolute love the Hero's Party and all the members; Red, Grace, Aina, Granwell, and Mr Cat of course (Mr Black Cat too sometimes)!
The story was so fun, I especially loved chapter 14 where Mr Cat goes to the vet and Grace has to use 'pick up cat' numerous times. Grace is definitely my favourite closeted cat lover hehe! I'm kind of worried for the heroes actually defeating the Demon King, I think they'll pull it off somehow, I hope.
This is the perfect series for lovers of cats and gamers if ever there was one. Set in a world based entirely on RPG tropes, the road to victory is long, for what's a hero to do when a cat decides to sit on his lap?
Our main character Red soon accepts that Mr Cat wants his lap and no other's - promptly turning him into a cat person - saving the RPG world be damned. His two companions, the magician Grace and martial arts fighter (and voice of reason) Aina have no choice but to acknowledge that Mr cat is here to stay. Funds are spent on special fish and cat tutorial books in place of weapons and magic tomes. Crucial skills are learned (Red learned Pick Up Cat!) and levels are, somewhat slowly, gained. Vet visits become a priority, villains aren't all that bad (who doesn't get on with a fellow cat lover?) and, should Mr Cat go missing, pots and barrels get smashed in true RPG fashion. Of course, we all know cats prefer the boxes - or treasure chests in the RPG world equivalent it seems.
Cat on the Hero's Lap is, naturally, a parody through and through. Some jokes may be lost on people who haven't played an RPG before but any cat lover will recognise the feline shenanigans. The chubby ginger Mr Cat is definitely the star, but Red and company come across plenty of other cats during their travels and this is really just cat antics galore. The art is great, both for the human characters as well as the cats. Mr Cat has mastered the soulful stare and I am not surprised he even got through to Aina who is far more focused on keeping the whole world saving business in mind.
There are a few sad backstories for some of the cats but it is otherwise a series that's truly just for laughs and awws. I feel like this series doesn't get enough recognition among the many cat manga and I'd warmly recommend it to any cat fan (especially game fans). It's a nice compact 4 volumes series and thus doesn't drag unnecessarily. A perfectly wholesome series that will make you smile and laugh. My personal highlight was my own cat sitting on my lap while reading this of course.
The heroes are at it again! Back and trying to level up with the stray kitty following them around.
After traveling to a new town, the Cat gets scared and runs off. The party has to find a way to get the kitty back and also find a quick way back home because the scared cat becomes sick! Time to adventure for a chest with magic wings to transport them back to their home village!
When they do, Cat finds comfort in the chest, crawls in and makes it a safe place...and a new friend!
We meet a new cat loving hero too! Will he join the party?

Another hilarious volume of adventures with Red, Grace, Aina, and, of course, Mr. Cat. The party continues their quest to defeat the Demon King, leveling up, encountering new foes, and meeting some new cats.
Includes many relatable cat ownership situations such as going to the vet, nonstop shedding, and the desire to find just the right box to sit in.
Great blend of humor and adventure. This series is adorable.
It’s ok, but the jokes are overused so it’s not all that interesting. The cat will climb in his lap at the most inconvenient times (my cat also has a sixth sense for this), the two men will insist on indulging the cat to ridiculous degrees, the woman will complain but tolerate it, the black cat pops up unexpectedly, rinse and repeat.

there’s just something special about cat manga’s that I absolutely adore. I loved this continuation of the story and need to get the next few volumes soon so I can read about mr. cat and the hero’s adventures. I’m sure vol. 3 will be even cuter!
Cute, wholesome, enjoyable. I wish there was more in this volume about the videogame-esque end of the story. Starting to lean a little towards more generic cute cat story. Still solid though.
Welcome Mr. Black Cat and Miss White Cat!! It’s so cute when guys turn into marshmallows for cats and make themselves crazy trying to care for them. And yeah the vet is cute 😉
