AN UNLIKELY PACT

It is year two of the Bunkyu era. Six years have passed since the alcohol craze that stole yet more loved ones from Jinya’s life, but as time marches forward, so must he. The new era keeps Edo on edge as the anti-shogunate movement gains momentum with each passing day. Meanwhile, Jinya investigates rumors of a demonic sword and meets Hatakeyama Yasuhide—a samurai who serves the feudal lord of Aizu and has sworn loyalty to the shogunate. But just how far will this samurai go to prevent the shogunate from becoming just another relic of the past?

I highkey feel scammed... looking at the cover i thought there'd be some real romance, family and bonding between ofuu and jinya but there wasn't!! i mean.. even if their vibes weren't super romantic i didnt want either of them to be alone so it rlly sucks. the soba restaurant idea is so cute anddd it would've fulfilled her dad's dreams. this novel was a lot harder for me to understand with all the new names and no manga illustrations to help but him finally talking to natsugao's wife as the streetwalker was really cute. I tried so hard to understand the arc where he finds his daughter but it was sooo confusing the dreamwalking and (was he in love of not) part was rlly hard for me to understand. watching him become a dad is kinda fun tho even though ofuus father dying and the soba restaurant closing was litearlly devastating. i also rlly liked the parts where hes talking to the demons while fighting them and seeing their rlly sad memories it makes everyone very morally grey. I will say i couldn't understand majority of the political stuff happening and I'm not rlly sure if i want to keep reading since he's leaving behind everything i enjoyed reading about in these novels. at least we get to see natsu in the end and how she doesn't actually hate him. I also don't understand the present day school stuff (whys this 170+ guy even going to hs anyways its so weird).
