Pretty standard—more sex scenes, a lot of the FMC being insecure and the MMC being things that would be completely unacceptable IRL. More frustratingly, I noticed something while reading this volume that, if other readers noticed and take issue with this sort of thing, might be pretty upsetting for them.
In the very first volume, we’re introduced to our MMC, Lucas Herbest (ugh). Here’s exactly what the narration says about him in volume one (page 6):
“At eighteen, he was brought into the Imperial Order and tasked with protecting the royal family. One year later, his genius earned him the role of vice-captain.”
Somewhere thereafter, the FMC claims to have had an 18th birthday (struggling to find that page, apologies).
So, great! Everything is above board, right?
Well, in this volume—and maybe one of the past volumes, but I missed it—we learn that the FMC and the MMC meet at 10 years old. The MMC then has a six-year-long crush that is finally realized when he has her love in this volume, volume three.

Oh for fucks sake—
Look, my problem isn’t that they’re underage. Fine, whatever, they’re drawings. My problem is that Seven Seas (Steamship in this case) keeps LYING about characters ages, or meanings of words (they VERY incorrectly translate the word “loli” to “a girl who looks younger than she is” in JK Haru, which is harmful for more reasons than just language appropriation), or whatever else so that they can publish these works. In Canada, characters who are depicted under the age of 18 in sexual situations (yes, in fiction) is considered CSAM. So Seven Seas is continually pumping out what is, by Canadian law, CSAM, and it’s stocked in bookshelves all over with a cheeky “MATURE” warning on the back.
Imagine if you’re a person triggered by underage in fiction. Imagine reading three volumes of this, getting to this point, and feeling that sinking pit in your stomach as you realize—Oh. This is underage. Instead of just warning for it, this company lied to us and published fiction about underaged characters having sex for… some reason.
I don’t know why Seven Seas is so intent on translating so much underage, and then claiming it isn’t underage. Again—my problem isn’t with this type of fiction existing. But hiding something like that from the reader is pretty gross. Fanfictions are tagged with warnings for the safety of the reader, and many erotic novels/smut works are now, too. Even movies and shows have disclaimers like “violence, murder, smoking” or whatever else. So why not just do that for manga, too?
Again. In Canada, any depiction of sexualized underaged characters—drawings, anime, writing, whatever—is illegal. Yet this sort of thing is sitting on every manga shelf there. Meanwhile, random artists online get lambasted for drawing a petite woman or furry art…
It’s just a pain that the company keeps doing this.
Anyway. These characters are both ~16. Not 18+, as the first volume incorrectly claims. So if you were enjoying this work, but were unaware of that, I apologize.
And yes, my biggest gripe with this volume is the willful mistranslation/lying to the reader by the company, NOT anything in the book itself. The book is mid. Almost lost a star because I had to go double-check the first volume just to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, though. :P

Trigger warning: explicit and almost violent.
The story is starting to get more and more sweet but the relationship between the two leads is... Intense? I can't decide if the main male lead is yandere or not. He is so intense and his possessiveness and jealous nature personally would be a deal breaker but seem to be exactly what the lead character needs. After the amount of abuse emotionally that she has endured she has some intense abandonment issues and low self-esteem. To have her partner be this attached to her is actually having a healing effect for her. Under other circumstances, particularly if they were real life people, I would suggest some serious therapy and even couples therapy if they need to stay together. The codependence that would be going on there would be incredibly unhealthy! But since it's a fictional story, it actually works and has a silly beauty to it.
Not for everyone! But if you like spicy romance and don't mind the first encounter being questionable consent, back in volume one, and then having a vigorous relationship... Then you'll probably like this one. The story is improving as the volumes progress. I think there's only six volumes total, but I don't know if the series is finished or not.

Bit disappointed in this one. Felt like it tried to cram in a bunch of dialogue and mild politicking that didn't land the emotion/tension it was aiming for. The smut was...ok? OTOH, this was the kinkiest of the books, but OTOH, it wasn't? When Lucas was having his inner monologue of wanting to be all depraved, it ends up fading to black. When the story schtick is what a 'dark knight' he is (and considering what the previous volumes showed) this was actually just a lot of missionary.
So, neither entertaining story nor good smut. Not sure I'd bother with the next if it gets one.

Reading these volumes so spaced apart is probably not helping my enjoyment of this series. 😅 It was… fine. I find the sex stuff pretty boring in this series honestly, so that taking up a huge chunk in the middle of this volume sort of killed any momentum the story had going for it.

I loved this manga and I loved the art. I'm sucker for manga art and loved this art style because every historical clothes that has beauitful design. I can't wait for the Volume. 4 and I want to see main couple to get together.
