明治時代の詩人、小説家である国木田独歩の短編小説。作品集「武蔵野」［民友社、1901（明治34）年］に収録された。郊外に住む時田先生と、その家に下宿している若い男女二人との日常が描かれている。都会から離れ自然に溶け込む郊外の風景が独歩ならではの写実的な描写で書かれるとともに、新鮮な口語文体が使われている作品。
