Dylan: Life couldn’t get much sweeter. I love my job and the city where I live. Women come and go with no strings attached—just the way I like it. But all that changes when I get some devastating news, and I’m forced to return to the small town I grew up in.
The only spark of light in these dark days is getting to reconnect with Jade Quinn. She and my baby sister Hayley have been best friends since middle school. But Jade isn’t the same little kid I remember.
She’s all grown up. She might also be the only person in town other than my sisters who doesn’t hate me.
The more time I spend around Jade, the more she draws me in. But starting something with her, knowing that I’m leaving, won’t be good for either of us. And I can’t cross that line with my little sister’s best friend… Can I?
Jade: All I’ve ever wanted to do is run my family’s convenience store. It’s right in the center of a town I love, and it’s packed full of memories of my childhood—and my mom. The problem is, we’re going out of business. Fast. And my best friend Hayley’s family owns the store that’s stolen all our customers.
It gets worse. Hayley’s infamous older brother Dylan just moved in next door.
Dylan King has an awful reputation—even his sister warns me to stay away. Except when I’m around him, all my instincts scream the opposite.
With a business to save, I really don’t have time to date, and I don’t want to jeopardize my friendship with Hayley.
But what if the worst man in town turns out to be the greatest guy I’ve ever met?
I was SO excited to head back to Still Springs for another awesome small town romance for Loving the Worst Man! Ruby's sister Jade and biker boy Dylan totally intrigued me in Hating the Best Man, and their story is a fun best friend's brother slow burn with all the banter and swoon that Jenny and Natalie are known for.
When Dylan unexpectedly has to go back to his hometown for his parents' funeral, he intends to spend as little time there as possible. Though he's been gone for years, he is still the center of a horrible scandal he's still dealing with. Things seem brighter when he runs into Jade, his little sister's best friend. She seems to be the only person in town who doesn't judge him, and he's intrigued by her snarky attitude. Jade, on the other hand, is struggling. The convenience store that has been in her family for decades is failing, and she desperately wants to find a way to turn things around. In addition, she's at a loss for how to date in such a small town - until Dylan arrives. They have instant chemistry, but will Dylan's reputation prevent things from ever getting off the ground?
I felt SO BAD for Dylan. I was expecting his character to be a cocky bad boy, but he truly seems to be misunderstood. I loved all the asides of him talking to his therapist - I'd be pretty wrecked if I had to go through what he did too. And I loved Jade! She's funny and mature, though I wish she'd given up on Nate and gotten on team Dylan earlier. And her banter with Dylan is top notch - the bad pick up line competition was my favorite! This book is a bit of a slow burn, but things ramp up quickly near the end and the spice is GOOD. Totally worth the wait, and the HEA is so sweet.
I was super excited to snag this one as an ARC, I'm just obsessed with this series. I loved all the fall vibes, it's a perfect October read. Loving the Worst Man is out on October 17, you are definitely going to want this one on your fall TBR!
I’ll admit it. I didn’t think this book could measure up to Hating the Best Man. But I stand corrected — this book is perfect cozy fall rom com. It’s sweet, sexy, and I loved every moment of it.
Jade is one of the most relatable characters I’ve ever met. I found myself really identifying with her story. And Dylan. My god. That sweet tattooed marshmallow of a man. He had me melting.
I love getting to watch the story of these two lonely people find each other and really learn to grow and embrace their pasts and what they wanted for their futures. It was an adorable story.
And the spice. Jenny and Natalie really know how to bring the spice with this series!
Loved it!! This companion novel to Hating the Best Man was a fantastic story, with lots of swoony and steamy moments in addition to some truly romantic scenes as well.
Dylan appears to be the typical "bad boy," he's tattooed, rides a motorcycle, and has a reputation for breaking hearts. Dylan left town a while ago and never looked back. Jade loves her hometown, and plans to stay and run the Quinn Brothers store that has been in her family for generations. Dylan is the older brother of Jade's best friend, and is totally off limits. But when Dylan returns to Still Springs for an extended period of time, he and Jade keep running into each other, and neither one seems to mind that one bit. Though Dylan is leaving town again soon, and Jade wants something more serious than a casual fling. He seems like the worst man for her, but his actions say otherwise. Can the worst man actually be the right one??
I absolutely adored this book! Dylan was a great character - he has so much more depth than what he chooses to show to others. Jade reminded me of myself at times, taking on so much and struggling to ask for help. What I loved about this book especially was how real these characters were with each other - you could tell that the trust was there and they felt comfortable being their true selves, but also knowing the circumstances, that they also had to guard their hearts at times, too. I also loved the mental health representation too. As someone living with anxiety, how this was presented in the book was well done and was shared in a positive way. There were some lovely cameos from Ruby and Flynn too. Overall, I loved this book, and I thought it was a great follow-up to Hating the Best Man.
Thank you so much to the authors, Jenny and Natalie, for the eARC of this book!
A cute small town romance with two people who suffer from struggles of their past find each other in the cutest way. warring shop neighbors, to the man starting to care for her and what she does no matter what and no matter the past that follows him.
When we met Jade in Hating the Best Man I instantly loved her…but I had no idea just how much I’d come to adore her in this book!! A few months after the end of her sister’s book, we find Jade running the family’s store and desperately trying to make ends meet to keep their doors open. When tragedy strikes the family of her best friend Hayley, Hayley’s brother Dylan returns to Still Springs and in a twist of fate ends up living in the apartment over the vacant shop next door.
Dylan did not intend to ever set foot back in Still Springs, but the longer he stays the more he resents the town that kept him away from his sisters for so long. Agreeing to stay in town and help until Christmas, he strikes up an unlikely friendship with Jade. But when sparks begin to fly he realizes that while his past may haunt him, and his present might pain him, his future could be brighter than anything he imagined.
Jade was absolutely fantastic in this book. She’s snarky, wide open, quirky, and bold, but she also has the biggest heart and the determination that makes her a formidable but super relatable FMC. I loved her growth but also her selfless spiral and ultimate journey toward healing and letting go of her own harbored loss in order to gain a brand new future that is all her own.
I LOVE DYLAN KING. That’s basically all you need to know.
Kidding. He has the swagger of a bad boy but the gooiest heart. I was not prepared for the cuteness that was his relationship with his sisters or his niece. That combined with his mouth and the fact that he has NO problem saying the dirty things that the rest of us keep in our minds made him hands down irresistible.
I loved the unlikely friendship between them, the tension of the forbidden romance (from both Dylan’s sister and the rival store aspects), and the looming past that followed them around in the form of an absolutely ridiculous deputy sheriff. This book seriously had it ALL and I’m still not over it.
If you love swoony romances, rom-coms, cinnamon roll bad boys, strong and independent ladies, close knit families, hot dudes who play with kids, spice and “that MOUTH”, and fall/Halloween shenanigans this is the book for you!!
Thank you so much to the authors for sending me an early copy for review!!
Dylan is Still Springs’ bad boy who left town as soon as he could with no plans to return however, unfortunate circumstances force him to return to the town that still haunts him. Jade loves Still Springs, she runs her family’s failing convenience shop and despite the challenges and exhaustion, she refuses to give up. When said unfortunate events lead to Jade and Dylan’s paths to cross, they reconnect. Jade isn’t the little girl Dylan remembers playing with his little sister, yet Dylan is still the forbidden, attractive, bad boy Jade remembers. Maybe it will be worth breaking all the rules and town gossip for or maybe it will lead to utter destruction, that neither of them will be able to recover from.
Y’all this book is so swoony with all the snarky banter and SPICE that we know and love Jenny and Natalie for! I swear I had a smile on my face and a giddy feeling in my chest every time our MCs interacted! I also cried several times and wanted to crawl into this book to give Dylan all the hugs! He is just a big emotionally mature cinnamon roll that needs all the love which is definitely my type 🫠
What you can expect: 🏍️ motorcycle riding, tattooed bad boy MMC 🏍️ ambitious, independent, witty FMC 🏍️ best friend’s brother 🏍️ small town 🏍️ mental health rep 🏍️ age gap 🏍️ 🌶️🌶️
*read CW prior to reading- frequent mentions of loss and other triggers
I love Flynn but I also love Dylan so much! They are both amazing and so swoon worthy. Dylan was definitely a tortured hero. But he showed up for Jade again and again. They are so different and I love them for different reasons. But the motorcycle, the tattoos, yum.
Jade standing up for Dylan (even though he was never around and will probably never know how she stood up against (#contemporaryrobert)).
I didn’t expect the twist at all. But things happen for a reason.
I loved all of the banter and jokes between Dylan and Jade- and highlighted so much in this book.
I loved that we got peeks in with Dylan and his therapist. We saw him cry and struggle with his feelings and past. I just want to give him a big hug. I loved that Dylan helped with Jade and her panic attack and again just showed up for her.
All of Jenny's and Natalie's characters are so relatable and so refreshing to see some of “us” in the them. Except the two #contemporaryrobert They are literally the worst.
Jenny and Natalie are instant buys for life for me.
We also got a little more Flynn and Ruby and I couldn't be happier!
-Small town -Best friend's older brother -forced proximity -mental health rep -tattooed MMC -age gap -steam and swoon
Another swoon-worthy and spicy contemporary romance from Jenny Fyfe and Natalie Murray!! I've been eagerly waiting for Jade and Dylan's story from their first brief interaction in Hating the Best Man. What Fyfe and Murray have delivered is so much more than I was expecting. I laughed out loud and then cried within the first 50 pages. Loving the Worst Man is packed full of heavy emotions, but they're handled with care. Content warnings to be aware of: loss of a parent, grief, and substance abuse.
Dylan King has a bad reputation, drives a motorcycle, and is covered in tattoos. He's also been dealing with long-seated trauma and more recent grief. He feels deeply, and has closed himself off from everyone except his family. I love the mental health representation, and Dylan's use of therapy throughout the story.
I resonated with Jade Quinn from the start. She takes so much onto her shoulders and doesn't want to rely on anyone else for help. She loves her family so much, and feels responsible for them and her family's legacy in town. I love Jade's growth throughout the story, and her taking time to focus on herself and what she wants out of life.
Dylan and Jade have fantastic chemistry and banter. Dylan has a filthy mouth, and I am totally here for it! The tension and spice are fantastic. There's a perfect mix of emotional connection, and spice.
If you loved Hating the Best Man, you get a couple Flynn and Ruby cameos. I loved seeing the progression of their relationship. I absolutely adored both stories, and can't recommend both of them enough!!
This was quite an emotional, rollercoaster of a ride. I enjoyed being back in Still Springs. It was a slow burn, up and down romance read.
Dylan has returned to Still Springs for his parents’ funeral. He wants to go and deal with what he needs to and then leave yet here he meets Ruby and their relationship blossoms.
Dylan and Jades relationship develops. He confides in her and trusts her. Yet she is technically unavailable… however, Jade’s new boyfriend doesn’t like Dylan and doesn’t have anything good to say about him. He is looked down on in the town because of what happened to the sheriffs sister.
Jade is the only one in the town who doesn’t judge and she’s going through a lot outwith the small town drama. She has a shop that has been in her family for years and she is struggling to keep it from failing. She is working around the clock to try and make do whilst her dad undergoes tests to see what is wrong with his back.
My heart broke for Dylan. I found it so hard to read at times with the judgement that was coming from Nate (the sheriff aka Jades BF). I wish Jade gave up on Nate from the get-go and we have more Dylan and Jade from earlier on. I think seeing more of their relationship would have been better for the story. I ADORED that Dylan is a photographer and they got steamy in his ‘red’ developing room… sexy!!!!
It was dramatic at times - thanks to Nate - but it was romantic, heart wrenching and heart warming. It had it all. Another great read from Jenny and Natalie.
I loved everything about this book! This is the second book in the Still Springs contemporary romance series by Jenny Fyfe & Natalie Murray!
I didn’t think it was possible for these ladies to top Flynn in the first book, but Dylan… iykyk! The mouth on this man is perfection! If you love tattooed, bad ass, but sweet, motorcycle riding MMCs look no further. He was everything I wanted him to be and more!
And Jade was my spirit animal! A sassy, horror/Halloween loving girl just trying to make ends meet for her family store, Jade takes on so much, refusing to unload any of the burden onto others. She was so relatable it was unbelievable.
As with the Hating the Best Man, it’s a small town feel, this time set in Fall and was such a vibe, I loved it!
We also get a glimpse at Ruby and Flynn again which was amazing!!
Pick this up if you love:
- Brother’s Best Friend - Sexy, badass MMCs with a sweet side - Mental Health Rep - Sassy, Independent FMCs - Swoon & Spice - Small Town Romance - Age Gap - Fall Vibes
I absolutely didn't even see the ending coming and it was such a good twist. I loved how Dylan really showed up for Jade, like throughout the whole book.
Both characters are so relatable. loved how “real feeling” this was, and that the parental loss and mentions of drug addiction was so... on point. Like the emotions written into those scenes are 1000% accurate and it's so healing to see HEAs in those moments even if it's a book. Such a good reminder that we're still human and we're just living through those.
I absolutely loved, and was so proud, of how mental health representation was done here. Because anxiety and panic attacks are so scary and debilitating, and we need more "real" characters. Dylan and Jade are perfectly written.
They're messy and confused and I absolutely adore their character arc and watching them absolutely grow. My heart feels so full. All the best emotions are perfectly balanced with the tough and nitty gritty emotions in this book too.
These women know how to write relatable, in depth, characters! I love how the characters grow throughout the book, individually and together. It's obvious that they have to continue the work after the story ends, but it's nice to see the beginning of the payoff.
Jade works tirelessly to continue running the store that her family has owned and operated for years. She sacrifices every other aspect of her life in order to try to keep the store afloat in difficult economic times and stronger competitors. The legacy and the memories their family shares there are strong motivators, but it's sad to watch see her give up on a chance at romance.
Dylan is a "looks like he could kill you, but is actually a cinnamon roll" type of guy with a cloudy past. Everyone misjudged him early on in his life, but he tries to not let it bother him. Until Jade, that is. He wants to open up, and is encouraged by his therapist, but he needs to figure out what his own motivation is.
This story is chock full of pleasant surprises that will completely reel you in. The amount of depth these characters have is staggeringly refreshing to read in a contemporary romance. It has excellent mental health representation from the MMC perspective which NEVER HAPPENS and I AM HERE FOR IT! The overarching themes of loyalty, self-care, and pursuit of happiness make this so much more than just a rom-com. And the plot twists you’ll never see coming will leave tears streaming down your face before you burst into a fit of giggles. If you love small town romance with heartwrenching twists, spice with the heat of 1000 suns, and banter/pickup lines that will make you laugh out loud, you need to read this book!
This book! This book! I didn't think it was possible to love a guy as much as Flynn in this world but I do. Dylan appears as the typical bad boy (tattooed, rides a motorbike, leaves a trail of hearts behind) at first but underneath it all, he was there for Jade over and over again.
It is refreshing to see the mental health representation and done well. It was presented in such a real and healthy way. We see Dylan in therapy and working through his emotions (cw: for parental loss). It gave his character even more depth and made my heart ache when you know that his home town didn't see him as anything more than a troublemaker.
Jade and Dylan just made so much sense. Their banter was spot on and they were swoon worthy together.
It was so much fun to see Ruby and Flynn as well. I could read about them all hanging out together. Jenny and Natalie wrote this story seamlessly and I will read anything they write.
I am at a loss for words! Thank you to the authors for giving me early access to read Loving the Worst Man! Once again, Jenny and Natalie did not disappoint, and I've gotta say, I enjoyed LtWM more than HtBM. I can't wait for the book to come out so I can add it to my shelf!
Dylan and Jade are an amazing pair of characters whose problems and experiences were very real and relatable. Dylan was a complicated and tortured character who was constantly showing up for Jade. He was full of surprises, and Jade was so loveable!! Their banter and jokes were a constant source of laughter. The swoony moments and the spice were top-notch, as usual. I highly recommend it!
It was lovely to revisit the town of Still Springs and its characters. We met Jade in the first book (Hating the Best Man) so this one is her story. Along the way we meet Dylan who has come back to his childhood town due to a family tragedy. No matter how long its been his bad boy reputation follows him around like the plague. The chemistry between Jade and Dylan is instant and electric. I loved both characters - Jade is strong and determined and Dylan has such a sweet and funny side. The love scenes and the build up to what these characters want as individuals and together is great. Give me Dylan in a swat uniform anyday! I look forward to seeing what these two authors cook up next!
This book was just everything to me, Dylan and Jade are adorable🥲 If you want an emotional yet absolutely adorable romance this is it. These books are so much more than just a “romance” this deals with so many topics and things ppl go through🥺
*note it is an adult/NA romance & it is not closed door & deals with adult content at times so if that’s not something that you are not comfortable with this may not be a book for you☺️* I’d check the content warnings before going in😉
While I loved them and this book they still didn't top of my beloved Flynn and Ruby! Dylan when he was with Jade was just straight magic and swoon city. I mean who doesn't love a simping man!! Especially a reformed player becoming one for someone he grew up with and is his little sisters bestie! But book wasn't perfect because Jade was making me mad at times especially the way she treated Dylan a few of the times was just straight mean. I want the Hayley's story next hopefully that's in the pipeline...
✅best friends older brother ✅bad boy who's a softie ✅reformed player
Love this. Jade Quinn was the sister that intrigued me in the first book. I wanted to read her HEA. Dylan - bad boy, tattoo, only son to the King dynasty is the type of guy I autoread. To find out he is sweet, caring, the best uncle, and so misunderstood is an understatement. Surface appearance doesn’t define a person and Dylan proves it.
Mental health is discussed in this book and I like how it was presented. A very healthy way.
Overall a good romcom.
Best friend brother romance Small town Family Romcom
Synopsis: This is the follow-up (but can be a stand alone) to Hating The Best Man. In this story we follow the sister from the first book and her budding relationship with “the worst man” aka her best friend’s brother. Pros/cons: There was nothing overly exciting about this book but also nothing I disliked. I enjoyed the characters and the story and was invested in the romance. I preferred this book over the first! If you’re looking for quick romance reads give these a try!
3.5⭐️ 0.5🌶️ A really quick read, not super detailed character or world building throughout it. Similar to the first book in this duology, I wish there was a bit more detail in some scenes, and that the epilogue was more thorough. I don’t think I would recommend this series to a friend unless the friend is specifically looking for an easy read and has an affinity for hallmark-esque romances. While it was cute, I wouldn’t go out of my way to read or recommend to others.
This was very cringy at times, so much so that I repeatedly made faces out loud. I don’t think I can cope with a MMC calling the FMC ‘his girl’ ever again (I may have screamed). Bonus points for the nice ending (of both the main characters and the side characters), but I still feel like I’m being generous with my rating.
I enjoyed this one more than the first. I think I found this to have more going on with the story. Can I have a Dylan king please? Tatts and a motorcycle? Also agree on “Nate the Nark” being referred to “Deputy Douchebag” for the rest of the book. Very fitting in my opinion.
This book kinda took a while to get through. But Dylan has to come back to his hometown after he found out his parents have passed. He has to stay in the apartment right near his younger sisters best friend jade family convenient store. They both start to see each other often
4.5 Stars- While I did not love this one as much as I did the previous one, I have to say it was an amazing book and I had a fantastic time. Our main characters were relatable and interesting to follow. This was steamy, fun, and heartfelt all wrapped up in one perfect package.
If you love the whole best friend's brother/forbidden to love you/hate to love you semi-spicy contemporary romance, then this is the book for you. It's filled with all the tension and family woes. I enjoyed reading their story and watching the healing throughout.
