When young Brie Taylor flees from her husband, she hides in a dangerous neighborhood far across the huge city and from the wealthy area of which she is familiar only to find that the challenges she faces may be too great to bear. Brie has a strategy to overcome this new impoverished life; however, just months into her plan, it begins to disintegrate, and she is faced with hurdles that threaten to destroy her. As a single mother from teen pregnancy, Brie is swept into a story-book marriage, only to find it is a façade for her husband’s secret life. After a fateful night of his abuse, Brie escapes with her daughter from their affluent, white neighborhood and finds herself on the opposite side of the city in a dangerous area where she is the minority. Brie’s only solace is her boss, Annie Mae, a larger-than-life black woman who both strengthens Brie and prods her toward her destiny. Brie’s life up to this point has been one of victimization. Now she must find the courage to live the life she purposely chooses despite the unexpected, colossal setbacks she faces along the way. Her struggle to succeed inspires others and exemplifies that the human spirit can triumph over incredible hardships with God’s grace, supportive friends, and a strong will. Filled with humorous antidotes and heart-wrenching insights, this book will take you into a world that sheds light upon real-life discrepancies between right and wrong, prejudice and acceptance, fulfillment and longing.

I have read this book by M C mitchell and it was my first book by this Author wow did not disappoint it was a brilliant book which i didnt want to end. Would definitely recommend to other avid readers like
Interesting read, some excitement and a decent plot, and I recommend it. Four stars because it's not fully edited, with some grammar errors such as wrong homophones (their instead of they're is the last one that I remember).
3.5* Not my usual genre but quite a compelling read all the same. Heart breaking and heart warming in equal measures. The trials and tribulations of a young niave woman on her quest to save herself and young daughter.....to escape and find a better life. Well written, loveable characters and packed with drama. The story ends with one stage of her life complete but was does the future hold for her now? What does fate have in store for her and has she made the right decision? Hope for security and a happy future drives her forward, but will it be a happy ending? No doubt book two in the series will hold those secrets.
This is the author's first book, and I thought it was a wonderful portrayal of a young woman overcoming bad choices in her life. The protagonist is a single mother escaping an abusive relationship, and she finds help from strangers in a somewhat "undesirable" part of town. The struggles are real, but the faith of the main character and her support system is evident. Great read!
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! I am an avid reader (have already read more than 100 books this year) and this is the best book I have read in at least the past decade! It drew me in right from the start...a wonderful story of being poor, then rich and then destitute...coping and dealing with it all. Sometimes coping well, sometimes not....so much like real life. This book really touched my heart.
Abrielle and her daughter, Kate, escape home and end up as far as they can from their comfort zone, but where they end up is a blessing because of the people they meet, the support system they find and all the lessons learned. I loved the characters, particularly Annie Mae.
I never give away spoilers so you have to read the book for details. However, this is one book you will not regret reading! It is rich with well developed characters, heartfelt feelings and believable dialog. This is a true reading treasure, in my opinion.
I am honestly blown away. This is not my usual genre, which made the experience even more powerful the first few chapters pull you in quietly, then refuse to let go. The emotional depth caught me off guard in the best of ways. The characters feel real and beautifully flawed. I found myself thinking about them long after I put the book down, which was not often. From start to finish. I tore through this book in two days. It felt less like reading and more like binge watching a series you can’t stop. The twists are thoughtful and so unexpected .They unfolded in way that felt so honest and realistic. It also beautifully weaves, black and white characters together in way that feels honest and human, reminding me that the deepest kind of love is not romantic at all, it’s the fierce, protective love of Community and the tribe we form that refuses to see color as a divide. I’m looking forward to the next book.
