Brooke Jordan thought her Christmas was going to be boring, particularly since she’s stuck working in Montego Bay, Jamaica, instead of home in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her family. Paradise isn’t paradise when you’re not where you want to be, but this Christmas is anything but uneventful. Three airplanes land on the island and Brooke finds herself in exchanges that cause love, temptation, and HATE to surface. Marcus Thompson has pain in his past, but he’s decided it’s time to try love again. A widowed orphan from a wealthy family, he’s alienated from his grandfather and wants a family of his own. His feelings for Brooke can’t be denied, but she won’t give him a chance to prove he’s not the playboy she thinks he is. Though she finds Marcus tempting, Brooke is determined to get off the island without falling for his charms. The two people she trusted the most betrayed her in the worse way, and she isn’t prepared to risk love again. But when her worst enemy stands on her doorstep needing the generosity that has always been a part of Brooke’s character, she begins to question who she is and what she’s allowed heartbreak to do to her. Will she let anger and hate take over and turn her into someone else? Or will she find that even in her pain, she has the capacity to give?
Even as she pursued degrees in Textile Technology, Organizational Leadership and finally, Adult Education, Rhonda McKnight’s love for books and desire to write stories was always in the back of her mind and in the forefront of her heart. Rhonda loves reading and writing stories that touch the heart of women through complex plots and interesting characters in crisis. She writes from the comfort of her South Carolina home with black tea, potato chips and chocolate on hand. At her feet sits a snappy mixed breed dog. I absolutely love how this boom is such a reminder of how ALL things work together FOR us no matter our past and or mistakes. I enjoyed how this boom showed that you can have a beautiful redemptive love story even when you try to self preserve from shame from your past. Rhonda don't disappoint in her writing 👏🏾
Loved it and would most definitely recommend it. Story here deserved more than a five star rating but that's all we have to work with. There were so many points made in this story that I don't know where to begin. The love and commitment to family was one obvious one, pride in being successful was another, being a disciple of Christ even in the worst of circumstances and even when you don't want to also ranked high on the list of character points for me. The need to forgive in order to move on was a very strong message well received. Learning to love again and learning to love yourself in the face of pain was high on the list as well. This was one of the most morally correct stories I have read in a while even though Christian fiction is one of my favorite genres, these people collectively represented the epitome of what we should all be striving for at such a time as this. Excellently written and thoroughly thought out; love this author.
I loved this story.Brooke was stuck in Jamaica working while all her family was in North Carolina getting ready for the holidays. Brooke comes from a very close family , so being without them for Christmas was going to be extra tough.
Marcus has been in love with Brooke since their one day some time ago, but because of "issues" Brooke is not willing to mix business with pleasure. Throw in some drama from the past resurfacing and you have one heck of a story about love, faith and forgiveness. I also loved that although it was a short story, it was a complete story! I definitely recommend this book by Rhonda McKnight
Love and forgiveness is more for yourself than it is for those you need to forgive. I loved this story of forgiveness and I hope that it will continue with on with another family member(Cree), I would love to know her story of heartbreak and forgiveness and at the same time get an update on Brooke and Marcus.
Absolutely loved it. Rhonda McKnight brought a story that will win over even the hardest of hearts. There is no way you can read this and not feel the tug of forgiveness. One the the best reads this year.
Brooke was stuck in Jamaica for the holidays away from her family working. She had a hard year and was bombarded with constant reminders she'd soon like to forget. This Christmas season showed her the miracle of new love, faith, family, and forgiveness.
I enjoyed reading this holiday short story. Brooke is a woman on the mend from an ugly divorce earlier in the year. She takes a work opportunity to Jamaica just before Christmas to put as much distance as she can between her memories and reminders of her ex. However, she greatly misses being with her close knit family during the holiday. Cut to Marcus, her coworker and new Line Manager whom she has dinner with one evening after work and turns into more than either of them expected. Marcus is a widow whose heart is now ready for love and Brooke is the woman he wants to move forward with. When Brooke is faced with making a decision that affects the well-being of her ex-husband, she struggles to forgive the past and overcome her pain, while also dealing with the feelings and emotions Marcus stirs up in her. The author does a fantastic job in bringing her characters to life and adds depth and richness to their storylines in a short period of time. The story is heartwarming and I loved the way McKnight allowed the relationship between Marcus and Brooke to unfold. The underlying question raised concerning the ex-husband also keeps you thinking about the choice you would make in Brooke's shoes. The Jordan family made me laugh and smile and wanting to spend more time with them, and I look forward to doing so in the next series installment.
Always love reading Rhonda McKnight’s books. This book was short but held my interest all the way! The way she ties in daily living, hardship, pain, and happiness with scripture allows me to think about my own personal struggles — then to realize God has a perfect plan!
I love a good Christmas read during the holidays, and this one was a great choice. I enjoyed the characters. The story line was interesting and moved at a good pace. I only wish that it was a full length novel. I do plan to read more about the Jordan Family, though!
Love comes knocking when you aren’t looking. This is exactly what happens in this short novella. Christmas, forgiveness, family, dream job, betrayal and new love interest come together in this delightful Christian romance.
How do you forgive when your best friend of twenty-five year does something despicable to you? Brooke Jordan has to try to do this. Short sweet and to the point. Remember God doesn't like ugly.
Amazing story line, Love stories are my favorite. Brooke’s family flown to Jamaica to celebrate Christmas with her, that’s Love. Marcus loving her was the best Christmas gift ever 💝
Brooke had to give a little more of her heart than she would like to have so could move on with her life and find love and happiness. Sometimes hard to forgive and forget.
A very good story that shouts forgiveness comes then love. Love of oneself, family and friends. I wanted more of the family love, more of the forgiveness, more of the main character's possible romance.
Nice read. It was wonderful how Marcus helped Brooke to trust and find love again, including in herself. It was relatable on Brooke’s feelings for the two people that did her wrong.
I made the mistake of opening this book at 2 am. I couldn't put it down. It was a wonderful story well; written and incredibly inspiring. I'm glad I already bought book 2.
This was a good book but I wanted more. I don't know if I got enough of the back story. I was a little disappointed with the ending and I hope book 2 helps to fill in some of the blanks.
