Jo Ham's Rabbit #2

¡Guau! Rabbit

Rate this book

Uh-Oh! Rabbit is adorably funny. Children will delight in seeing the rabbit's laughably disastrous endeavors to venture "down" after the companion rabbit goes "up."

Repetitive text paired with simple, bold silhouettes will also appeal to the young audience who enjoys chiming in with predictable text. Uh-Oh! Rabbit calls to mind Boynton's Red Hat, Green Hat, Yellow Hat, Oops! humor and offers a new option for children who love Boynton's word patterns and for parents who would like something different (or who liked the Bunny Suicides!).

Appropriate for the youngest audience and fun for those of any age who read to them! T found it cute and humorous and thought it would be a good selection for his little cousin R. Mom and Son both approve!

As with Yippee! Rabbit, this follows a simple illustrative style with Rabbit trying out some activities for style and in most cases having an unfortunate outcome from them. In this instance though, somewhat improved from Yippee! Rabbit, there is a more comical approach, with Rabbit doing funny or silly things when they do each activity and it doesn't quite go to plan.

I don't think I will continue with any further stories in this series, if there are any.

Uh-oh! Rabbit is a small, hardcover square book that is perfect for little ones as it has very few words and those that it does have repeat throughout the book.

Rabbit up - Uh-Oh! - Rabbit Down. That's all the words. However, the way the book has been written with fabulous illustrations that perfectly show those words is wonderful.

Repetitive word books are great for children just learning to read as they help them to memorise the look of the word and the sound it makes.

This is a quick, fun book that I can see children wanting to read over and over again.

A rabbit goes up, experiences a mid-air accident, and then goes down.

This picture book teaches the concepts of up and down as well as the informal phrase “uh-oh,” which expresses mild dismay, alarm, or surprise and/or the realization that one has made a mistake.

The text consists almost entirely of the phrases, “Rabbit up,” “uh-oh,” and “Rabbit down.” This allows young readers to participate in the story and anticipate what will happen next.

The illustrations are stylized silhouettes in black and white with yellow accents.

Ham’s famous rabbit is now featured in a board book. The rabbit explores the concepts of up and down using extremely simplistic language and a two tone palette, the outline/silouette artwork is great for engaging the littlest readers. The book humorously follows the rabbit as he skis, swims, and seesaws. Children will learn cause and effect, the concept of up and down, all with a little humor thrown in. A great gift for new parents!

Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for this ARC.

Black-silhouetted images follow a rabbit up and down in different situations. Very inventive - can see this book encouraging small children to 'fill' up lots of the story with their own perceptions. A great book for adding narrative to see what a small child is perceiving. Will recommend this book to my friends who have small children.

I'm a huge fan of Jo Ham and have decorated my room with two of her rabbit pictures. This minimalistic picture book captures the adventurous nature of Rabbit with opposites. Babies and toddler will love the bright monochromatic colors and small size.

I love this one for toddlers and preschoolers as well as brand new readers. The text is super short and repetitive but full of quiet humor. It’s a silly story about rabbits playing. They go up and down with lots of uh-ohs. I love the simplicity of it.

Small picture book with dustjacket in black, white and yellow. Limited text but super cute. Illustrations of a pair of bunnies on a see-saw, in a pool, on a slide and skiing. Nice!

Such a great bedtime read.
I love the humour in it too.
It wasn’t long before my granddaughter became so familiar with the story that she was happily “reading” it back to me!

*I received this book as a DRC. I love this baby board book! It has bright yellow as a contrast to the shadowed rabbit, and the pictures are simple and minimalistic, yet artful and appealing.
