An earlier account in the life of Aidan Snow.

Part of a SAS unit in Northern Ireland’s border country trying to save the fragile ceasefire in November 1994.

Working in bandit country, pitted against the South Armagh Brigade, Snow is one of four in his team tasked to monitor and prevent this group from undermining the IRA ceasefire. Rules of engagement mean they are walking a narrow line between defensive reaction and blame for breaking the truce.

This all adds to the tension and you sense the real danger these men faced in difficult circumstances. The short story shows that training counts for a great deal but once blooded in action you can’t undo emotions or suppress fear.

Thus we see Aidan Snow at the start of his career path into the secret service and recognise the man he becomes in later books.

A good backstory which is revealing, faithful to ‘the troubles’ where you are compelled to place your life in danger, while needing faith and a shared trust in those on your side.

...a grab-you-by-the throat short thriller... great intro to the Aiden Shaw novels...,

...a great 'taster' for the Aiden Shaw novels ...undercover black operations are not kid-glove experiences... come in and feel the tension all the way through this short story... reality reflected in fiction, here.. this stuff happens... good work, Mr Shaw...

This book was a change in genre for me. It tells the story of a four man squad who were sent to Ireland to assist the peace treaty. Although the book was a short, I would be interested in reading other books by this author

Herman Hard to kill

A novella by Shaw . Action thriller with Aidan Snows first mission as a SAS operative. Story takes place in Ireland when a rogue splinter group from the IRA plots to assassinate a Irish politician. Snow teams up with Paddy fox, a seasoned SAS operative. Extremely well written and a fast paced excellent read!
