This is the story of Splat the cat who is going to the doctor. He is at school and it tells his friends that he is going to leave early because its mother is going to take him for a check up. Its friends scare him with bad things they have heard about doctors and splat freaks out. When its mom comes to school he refuses to go but its mother takes it any ways. After being at the doctors splat realizes that it was not that bad as its friends described it. At the end splats goes home with a nice sticker the doctor gave it for being a good patient and a big smile. I like the book, it is a good one to read to kids so they do not stress out when they know they have to go to the doctor. It has nice pictures and they will have a great time reading it.
Splat the Cat's classmates make him very nervous for his appointment, but when he goes to the cheery doctor's office and sees his friendly looking doctor, he's no longer afraid. Vaccines are not introduced in this book
I read this for the "A Book Featuring The Medical Profession" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I really enjoyed the art style, but felt the story line was too simple and not convincing enough.
Picked this up on our last trip to the allergist. Lily is simultaneously terrified of and enthralled with doctors. Probably from having to see SO MANY and usually for very not fun reasons.
Growing up with a favorite book of my childhood as The Berenstain Bears Go to the Doctor and in recent years my girls new favorite being Corduroy Goes to the Doctor. It is fun to add in more characters with reassurance that going to the doctor is a good and healthy thing to do.
This is a good introduction for kids that are not familiar with visiting the doctor. From kids that are scared of the unknown, seeing the rooms of the doctor's office, the step by step procedure, to a sticker finish.
Splat the Cat is one of the most beloved characters in our family and we read a lot of stories about him. They are usually nice and unobtrusively instructive, though some are better than others. The idea behind a picture book "someone goes to the doctor" is obviously old. We do want a book to go along with our chatting preparing the kid to go there, right? Unfortunately, this one misses the point. For my kid at least, going for a check-up always also means vaccinations. And what do you think, they are not exactly pleasant. The book, however, completely omits any unpleasant or painful procedures, setting unreasonable expectations. Thus, only three stars - a reasonably good picture book, but nothing special.
Splat the Cat is a favorite in our house. Splat is excited he is getting out of school early to go to the doctor but his friends tell him all kinds of horror stories about going to the doctor. Now Splat is scared. Everything works out when he gets there and the doctor is really nice and it's kind of fun being there. Plus he gets a sticker (and there are actually stickers in the books). Splat is a loveable cat, and the illustrations are wonderful. *NOTE* I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In this book Splat is excited about getting out of school early, But when his friends find out he's going to the doctor they all are scared for him. They tell him scary things but his mom helps him to feel better and not scared after he goes.
A solidly good look at the fears a child may have before visiting the doctor and all the ways in which the doctor's office isn't nearly as scary as it may seem.
