My son and I picked this book out for his sister as she loves Pinkalicious on PBS kids.
I admit I have never watched an entire episode of the TV show (and maybe I need to now) but the book was a bit annoying. Everything the kids did to be helpers ending up in some kind of destruction - broken coffee table, broken salt & pepper shakers, a messy table with seashells as cups and leaves as napkins - and the parents didn't really address it. They sad, we can try to fix this.
I don't really want my children to think there is no consequences for when something happens - even an accident (which these really weren't complete accidents).
I don't think we'll read this again next Thanksgiving and we may be skipping Pinkalicious from now on.
Henry picked this out because he's on a Pinkalicious kick. The mashing potatoes with tennis rackets does not fail to impress. (Maybe Amelia Bedelia should be next on our book tour.)
But the "Thanksgiving" content is full of stereotypes and misinformation. The "We are the worst Thanksgiving helpers in the history of Thanksgiving!" quote was the strangest part to me.
There are certainly more factual Thanksgiving books out there when dealing with traditions, but children like the Pinkalicious character! Also points out the importance of family.
Thanksgiving Story Time. Pinkalicious and Peter do their best to help Mommy and Daddy get ready for Thanksgiving. A little long and not as interesting as I would have hoped. Usable.
Last year I was really impressed with Pinkalicious' charity spirit in her "Pink or Treat" experience. Again, Pink and her brother prove in "Thanksgiving Helper" to be really great kids. Imaginative and creative, wanting to lend a hand in circumstances unrequested. Just like other kiddos of today, they can get a little carried away and things might be a bit chaotic, but the idea is there in the heart and this is a fun little early reader to prompt the Thanksgiving and charitable spirit of the season.
This little book is full of theme including a poster, stickers and Thanksgiving name plates. "Thanksgiving Helper" can help prompt your own little Thanksgiving helpers to join in on the fun and make it a thematic as well as family fun event.
This is a cute Thanksgiving book. I like how Pinkalicious and Peter do their best to help out with setting up for Thanksgiving, but it doesn’t always work out for them. The illustrations are fabulous. The detail that they have in them is cool (like there are music notes in the hill side when they go outside to play). Pinkalicious is a great, realistic young girl, and she just wants to help out, but she sometimes doesn’t think things through completely – sounds like a lot of kids. ;) This is a very nice book for Thanksgiving because it talks about being Thankful and also shows that even though you make mistakes, it’s trying to help that matters. *NOTE* I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
It's Thanksgiving Day, and Pinkalicious and her brother Peter are excited to assist in the festivities. While their attempts to help result in the occasional disaster, their actions are well-intentioned, and their parents are appreciative. This is a cute installment in the series. While it would be fun for classroom or library use, it would also make a good gift for kids who are beginning their Thanksgiving holidays, especially if they need a diversion on a long car trip or while waiting for the actual dinner to begin. Includes a themed poster, table place cards, and stickers.
Pinkalicious and her brother struggle to match their willingness to help out to the Thanksgiving tasks that are most appropriate for their abilities. Many of their attempts to help end up making a mess, but at least they help Dad remember to take the turkey out before it burns!
this book a little boy and his sister dress as an Indian and a Pilgrim. They want to help Mom and Dad with Thanksgiving preparations; and instead of helping it seems they are making things worse. But in the end their dinner was the best.
