DECODING THE FÉG HI-POWER

Rate this book
There are only a few handguns in the past century that can equal the long term regard earned by the FN/Browning Hi-Power, or P-35, by its owners and users. First produced in 1935, and the result of the collaborative efforts of John M. Browning and Dieudonné Saive of Fabrique Nationale, the Hi-Power has been manufactured almost continually since then by FN in Belgium.Once the original Browning patents for this pistol had expired, manufacturers could produce the Hi-Power without legal ramifications. One of the foremost and most prolific of those producers was the Hungarian conglomerate of FÉG, which in 1971 developed the P9, one of the most faithful versions of the Browning design ever made in quantity outside the FN factories in Belgium and Portugal. This is the story of that pistol.Fully illustrated with over thirty detailed photographs.

Just like his book on the CZ85, the author once again shows his mastery of the subject matter, albeit with a very narrow focus. He steps out a bit by mentioning the Argentinian FM90 and FM95, but does not touch on the HPs by John Inglis of Canada, Indonesia's Pindad, Nigeria's Defence Industries Corporation, Turkey's Tisas, China's Norinco and India's Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI)/Indian Ordnance Factories. Maybe there's material there for another book, Mr Paregien?

I bought this book to read on my Kindle. At 99 cents, it was a bargain. This book is a must read for the collector of these pistols. There are many variants and incarnations of the FN Hi-Power, including the FEG. What made the FEG variant interesting was the price and the quality which surprised many of the early purchasers of this obscure Hungarian copy. The book is well written and presents a variety of good points when examining these handguns. It is not a definitive treatise on the subject, but the author does not pretend that it is. Nevertheless, it is very thorough and informative. I liked it and would recommend it to anyone who owns or wants to own one of these beauties.

Good short read on the feg hi-power.

Interesting read on the feg hi-power and the several variations. If you own one of these fine pistols you might like this book.
