Adam Rose's guide, 9 Money Habits Keeping You Poor, is a well-researched look at the common mistakes we make while financially planning our futures. While he credits the education system and consumerism as the main sources of our financial failings- a perspective that can and should be debated- his advice is sound and includes having multiple streams of income, investing wisely, educating ourselves in the often complex tax law and saving with our financial goals in mind.

It is clear that Rose's expertise is borne of life experiences and that helps us trust his guidance. Overall, a solid and thorough read for fans of finance, self-help and nonfiction.

Good financial basics

I think this book would be great for the person with low financial literacy, wanting to change their financial habits and build their wealth. The information isn't groundbreaking if you have been learning about financial literacy and financial independence for a while.

For international readers, be aware that some of the information is heavily U.S. based including the history of taxes and some investment opportunities.

Overall, I did enjoy reading the book and it inspired me to continue on my financial freedom journey and venture into entrepreneurship.

All that stuff that you *should* know, probably do, but don’t think about or actively focus on. Not so much a ‘how to save money’ guide, but focusing more on your mindset, beliefs and overall use of your money, and how a shift in perspective can make all the difference. American-centric, so skipped over the taxes section as it doesn’t apply to me, living in the UK. Even though I’ve got decades of money and personal finance experience behind me, it’s not been on the positive side, to put it bluntly. Some great tips in here if you’re just starting your journey or, and possibly even more so, if you’re struggling to get back on track.

I think this book is very useful for several reasons:

1. It starts with developing an appropriate abundance mindset.

2. It shows the importance of budgeting and splitting your finances between essentials, discretionary spending, and investments/savings.

3. Demonstrates the benefits of “paying yourself first”.

Talks about personal finance principles in an easy to understand way.

Anyone who is not retired will derive benefits from this book. The biggest benefits are for young adults who need to develop financial literacy.

The book has a US bias, but the general principles work anywhere regardless. Highly recommended.

An easy and practical read. Nothing radically new - but some useful tips. Tax chapter firmly catered for a US audience .
