As front man for supergroup Queen Anne’s Revenge, Devon Bailey has a string of hit songs, has traveled the world, and has everything he could possibly want–or so the rest of the world thinks. Behind the scenes, however, Devon’s life is far emptier than anyone could imagine.
With his band scheduled as headliners at Rocktoberfest to kick off their latest world tour, Devon tries to maintain the illusion of perfection. But he’s deep in the closet, QAR’s drummer is battling addiction, and his bandmates seem to think Devon should have all the answers. When the unthinkable happens, Devon’s life is plunged into chaos, and all he wants is to escape the pressure.
Michael Ford has had a crush on Devon ever since he was hired as a bodyguard, but professional integrity demands he keep his feelings in check. However, Michael doesn’t hesitate to offer respite when Devon is overwhelmed by tragedy. Between the paparazzi on the prowl, grieving family hurling accusations, and Devon’s battle with his own demons, will the attraction between them have the chance to develop into something more?

I wasn't sure about how this story handled the issue of addiction, grief, and on top of that a a narcissistic personality disorder. It was easy to put that in the only dead person in the story, like sure, because Chad was a narcissist being an addict was also his fault. Like, Chad was so selfish that he couldn't cure himself from addiction even if he had therapist!
3.5 stars An okay book. Key Change is another part of The Road to Rocktoberfest Series. An intriguing beginning as Devon and the band were touring to the Rocktoberfest event after they'd just finished recording another album. Devon was Chad’s best friend but even that had a limit to him with the issues. Chad had his deep addiction and personality issues in this book which the band members constantly put up with. I had mixed thoughts about how it was handled with the band members, I'm not sure if that's the right words as the scenes played out and the end result. Micheal, ex-military, was Devon’s bodyguard for the last 2 years working with Hercules Security.
Included issues relating to drugs and overdose and death and grief, maybe a trigger for other readers. A good story for them which I enjoyed, I loved the scene with the team dealing with the media hounding them. I burst out laughing with them. A slow romance but they finally get together for a beautiful ending. Switching povs for a HEA ending to the book.
ARC received from the author for an honest review.
Devon is the lead singer of a rock band. It's a position he's never wanted and has paid greatly for. He's had to have a bodyguard for several years due to a stalker. Now trouble has hit the band again and Devon is devastated. His bodyguard Michael gets him out of the limelight and gives him a chance to breath. He gets a chance to decide what he wants in life. Will these changes make or break the group apart?
I really liked this book. It showed a realistic account of what being in the limelight is like for many people. I felt like Devon and Michael had good chemistry that started as business associates, to friends and onto lovers. I liked that the author showed all the feelings that Devon was having during the crisis and not just the obvious. I really liked the tie in with the HERC's MERCs series. Definitely recommend this book and the whole series it ties into. Thx to Ari for the early read.
Finding hope in the midst of tragedy and learning that it's okay to put yourself first. I love the longing looks and the war between being professional and following your heart... this book had parts that were gritty, others that were sweet and so much that was real...
I absolutely loved both Devon and Michael as characters and the depth of their caring! It was beautiful to see. Key Change was a gripping read and a great addition to the Roctoberfest Line up.
