BERNARD BERNARD BERNARD!! Mans knows how to gather an army to slap some love and compassion into his boyfriends thick skull- and you know, try to save him from the literal cult of chaos worshipers that we’re about to sacrifice Tim. Okay but damn that cult really had it out for Tim, traumatizing his boyfriend, pitting him against the only other canonically queer family member, and bringing up his daddy issues: the triple-whammy.

ALSO I LOVE THE ARTIST AND COLORIST OF THIS ISSUE SM!! I can’t articulate how much I love the coloring in a meaningful way, but it’s just- AAJKSHSNS COLORS!! And the artist, hello? Using the yuri on ice hug as reference! Bernard’s long swishing coat! The combined rescue group full page!!

What a way to end off the series with a bang!

I wish that the this story arc was given the time it deserved. My only major critique of this issue would be that you could feel that they rushed what was probably three issues’ worth of story into one, but I still think they pulled it off. I appreciate that this wrapped up a character arc for Tim, but also for Bernard. I wish we could have gotten more of a chance for Bernard and Tim to talk about Tim being Robin, but I’m not dissatisfied by what we got. Goodbye, Tim Drake: Robin. You were really much better than people gave you credit for.

Bad.

I'm not sure it's a spoiler to say that the writer spent this entire run trying to hit us over the head with a contrived problem-- that Tim Drake doesn't feel sure about his identity.

This was always ludicrous. Tim is a very well-established character from the early 90s. He has starred in his own solo titles many times. He has been on teams. He has had hundreds of appearances. We know all his love interests (which now include boyfriends as well as girlfriends), we know about his academic interests, we know about his training to become Robin, and we know about how his parents died and his stepmom went insane.

Meghan Fitzmartin-- what the fuck are you talking about?

This "plot" ends with some generic hand waving.

This has such a nice ending!!!! with it being the last issue and with the intense cliffhanger on the last issue it’s actually quite nice :) fulfilling ending and finally tim as robin and people actually having his back and his character development was so deserved!!! I wish they touched upon the whole Bernard knows Tim’s robin thing and Tim reacting to that but alas

I also like that they gave Bernard a backbone bc for most of this run it was just Bernard being his little boyfriend and being a damsel in distress he had to save which sums up sadly a lot of his character so I’m happy for the change!!!

Was this a good comic run? No not really and just when things were finally picking up and it got interesting it ends but am I happy for the little character development tim got? Absolutely.

This maybe could have been a 4 star but 1) insulting to have tim reminiscing on his family and not show/reference cassandra in those panels, 2) even more insulting to put off brand stephanie brown with all of her, like, five appearances (all in this book) on the same level of importance to tim as stephanie and cassandra in that double page spread, and 3) heart warming how everyone rallies around ti-- hey wait, didn't kate ALSO get kidnapped, here???

huuuh, this run had potenial. But the bad art and uneven storytelling ruined that. I hope bi Tim and Bernard get another chance one day.
