A charming high-contrast introduction to bedtime. Black-and-white patterns and illustrations pair with friendly greetings for favorite pjs, a teddy bear, a comfy pillow, and more. Hello, pjs. Good to see you, teddy bear. Hi there, comfy pillow. Hello, Bedtime… When babies are first born, they can't distinguish between colors the same way that older babies can. But studies show that babies can see high-contrast black-and-white shapes and patterns from the very first days of life, and this charming introduction to simple objects found in a baby's bedroom, paired with friendly text and bold, basic patterns, provides an important high-contrast experience for young developing eyes. Using simple greetings like "How's it going, soft blankie?," "Bonjour, cozy bed," and "Good night, stars," alongside lovely black-and-white art by Jannie Ho (illustrator of Hello, My World ), Hello, Bedtime is the perfect board book for babies just beginning to look around and learn about their world. Also Hello, Baby Animals; Hello, Ocean Friends; Baby Loves Sports; Hello, Garden Bugs; Hello, My World ; and Booook! A Spooky High-Contrast Book .
Well this was fine apart from one goof, which – seeing as I saw this about five months early – can be mended. It's a very vividly-drawn white-on-black lullaby book, where a baby passes a greeting to everything that will help it sleep – the night-light, pillow, blankie, best book – and everything else that is around (stars, moon, parents as a last thought, etc). The daft thing as-I-saw-it-which-might-not-be-how-you-get-to-see-it is that it says "bonjour" to the "cozy bed", which apart from the Americanised spelling is just the wrong end of the day – say "bonne nuit" or just stop giving the impression this toddler is learning some foreign languages. That said, it is something for very young book-handlers to hold, something to share and therefore bring up the idea a last-thing book read is a part of a youngster's daily routine, and as part of that it's perfectly reasonable. But I do hope for the logic to be returned to the oddly-included French.
I love board books. This one is cute and easy to read with unique black and white illustrations. This would be really fun for a baby to play with and for older kids to read with a baby sibling. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Saying "hello" to everything at bedtime didn't work for me, especially when the last three pages switch to "good night." I much preferred "Hello Baby Animals." There's still value in a high-contrast book with night-time items, though.
Black & white contrast book for babies (since a baby's developing vision can see black & white before they see colors). The art is sweet & simple and accompanied by simple phrases (Hello, PJ's; What's up, favorite book) for objects that are part of a baby's bedtime routine.
We have the Hello My World for our morning routine and this one for our evening. I love reading this to him and then pointing out the things mentioned in the book like his PJs and the moon. Charming book.
My six week old loves this book. Her favorite pages seem to be the one with the blanket and the pillow. The contrast is super engaging for small baby eyes.
