Methalodon: A Deep Sea Thriller

Rate this book
Ruthless drug kingpin El Gato, known for his iron fist, is enraged as a megalodon engulfs his prized submarine, swallowing $20 million worth of cocaine and methamphetamines in the process. Fueled by vengeance, El Gato hunts down once-famous but now washed-up TV fisherman Chris Newman and the brilliant paleo-ichthyologist "Abbie" Marnoch at vacation destination Persuasion Island, and makes them an offer they can’t

Get the sub out of the Megalodon or El Gato will kill everyone on the island.

There is a complication, however. The drugs coursing through the Meg's system transform the sixty-foot beast into a deranged, meth fueled monster, hell-bent on satisfying its insatiable cravings. It wreaks havoc, ready to consume, crush, and obliterate anything in its path.

But Newman and Marnoch haven’t been given a choice. They must go into the belly of the beast.

The highest predator on the food chain.

3.5 stars. This was a lot of fun. Some great, hilarious dialogue, playful writing, innovative concepts on the megalodon lore, and lots of action. Think of it like a blend between Cocaine Bear and The Meg. The biggest flaw here was the pacing. It moved at warp speed and sacrificed developing all of the good qualities it brought to the table, in order to just jump to the next theatrical moment. And there were a few moments that felt like information dumps, again, directly affected by the pacing. But there wasn’t anything bad here at all. If the author slowed things down and developed the characters a little further, letting aspects of the story simmer with the reader, it would have gone from good to great. Not a bad outing, and it left me interested in seeing what other monkey business this author has been up to.

What more needs to be said that the title does not cover? If you want a deep book that will get you to think afterwords then this is not the book for you, if however you want some turn your brain off and have fun then it's for you, this is what the book was for me, fun, I will admit that it's my own opinion, influnced as I just wanted something fun to read that this delivered, in other times I would have rated it lower, it dissapointed at the end even if it had a slight realism to it.

Do you want a giant shark? do you want the explanation about it's existance to be handwaved as it is not important? do you want some bare bones description of the characters? do you want to read about a giant shark high on meth and tripping balls? then this is the book for you, the characters are quickly described and you get to know their motivation and their backstory however the main show here is the damn shark going on a rampage while high as a kite, it probably reached heights even kites have not reached.

Creature From the Book Lagoon.

Summer is swimming on by us and the heat is BRUTAL. Sounds like the perfect time to get our feet wet with some more aquatic horror!! 😀

Methalodon. It is just as bananas as the plot blurb sounds! And this novella does not mess around with any extra set up, we get right to the meg and the meth. Needless to say I loved every moment of this book. 😀

Obviously I loved all the sharky stuff. Lots of mentions of shark week and JAWS. Epic! I also loved how the meg was not dangerous… well, it wouldn’t have been if people hadn’t feed it meth and coke!

The only issue I really had with the plot is that the way the megalodon is talked about, it felt like maybe this was really a book 2 in a series? Did I miss something? I felt like I was missing a little too much of the backstory…? I mean… we do get filled in about the meg being created and escaping, but we only “hear” about it in the past tense info dumps, you know what I mean? :/

Clocking in at 107 pages, this is a very fast read. The pacing is go go go the whole time. The “slow” parts are few and far in between and tension rides high.

Methalodon is glorious carnage on the high sea with boats full of scientists, frat bros, and drug cartel henchmen. Plenty of death and destruction. The plot is as entertaining as it is insane! Super fun time. Quick. You really can’t go wrong with giant sharks. 😀

Review of this book.

This was an amazing book. So full of drama and suspense right up to the very last sentence. This author is amazing! He knows how to write a frightening book. He has done some research into the actions of sharks and megalodons. He made this book to tally believable. I look forward to reading more of his books!
