You Know I'm Right: More Prosperity, Less Government

Rate this book
As the popular anchor of CNBC's daily news show Power Lunch, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera puts a new spin on conservatism. Now, in You Know I'm Right, Caruso-Cabrera presents a modern and smart approach to correcting the economic woes of the nation. Denouncing the hypocrites, she calls out the radicals on both sides of the spectrum who have frustrated voters and left fiscally conservative but socially liberal Americans feeling like a people without a party.Caruso-Cabrera maintains that by focusing on socially invasive policies, our country has lost its course. The answer is less government, not more; less spending, not more; and getting the government to stay out of our pocketbooks and out of our private lives. You Know I'm Right addresses the problems created by government overreach and speaks to the minds and hearts of nostalgic Republicans-those who believe in the strategy and approach used by Ronald Reagan. But it will also appeal to Clinton-era Democrats frustrated by the current level of exorbitant spending and excessive interference in the economy. Citing faults with both political parties, Caruso-Cabrera puts a magnifying glass on government structure, healthcare, and education, underscoring how we have gone wrong and, more important, where we need to go for a secure and prosperous future.

I work in the financial industry and have seen Michelle on tv for years and years. when I passed this book in the library I stopped and said "what the....?" so of course I had to read it. I liked it. I think it's very informative and I agree wholeheartedly with a lot of what she says. While there are some things I like about what she says about fixing immigration. The caveats that she suggests would never work. You can't have "very strong restrictions on welfare" in our country. "there would be no welfare, and no subsidized health care, for those who come here." While I like that idea. It will never fly in the US. The first time a sick illegal immigrant went to the doctor and was not admitted or treated because they couldn't pay, the ACLU and every lawyer out there would be chomping at the bit. Our society is saturated with litigation. The lawyers would call it Christmas every day and the health service providers and liability insurance requirements would suffer. I get so fired up to the boiling over point when I read about businesses being bailed out, people being bailed out for their lack of fiscal responsibility. When does personal accountability come into play? Why has that been cast aside? People are not held accountable for their decisions any more and people like me suffer for it. Get rid of unions. Hold teachers accountable for their student performance but also hold them accountable for increasing the education for the whole class. The problem I have with the public education system is that it teaches to the lowest denominator. My daughter is in 6th grade and has been bored her entire school career since kindergarte. yes we need to bring up those who are failing, but what about stimulating the 6th grade student who has had straight A's since kindergarten. If we base teacher pay on student performance what is their incentive to maximize the education of the top performers? Something definitely needs to give. I like the idea of health care being sold through private companies like car insurance. Get rid of the career politicians. Get rid of the un-necessary agencies and GIVE THE MONEY TO THE STATES!!!!!!!

A centrist Democrat, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera believes in smaller government, in getting government out of our lives and our bedrooms, except when mandated by the Constitution, and pretty much to maintain law and order.

Intrusion by the Government is best left locally to the states where possible, rather than the Federal Government. She sets forth a number of instances in which the Federal Government tried to do the right thing, and it failed badly.

I do not think that one can read any politically themed book and agree with everything the author writes. And, this is true with Michelle Caruso-Cabrera's economic/political beliefs. BUT - even when I did not agree with her, she made clear WHY she held those beliefs in a way that I could respect; in a way I could sympathize with and even take extra time to reconsider.

Interesting. May have changed my mind on a few things, but thought she was out of touch on other things. It was interesting to read a Republican book.
