Rate this book
"I know these mountains like the back of my hand," Jake said, his grip tightening on me. "That's why I told you not to bother running, Saoirse. Because I will find you . No matter how long it takes. I'll hunt you down and drag you back to me."

After a failed job interview, Saoirse Byrne’s car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and she’s forced to stop by the only gas station in a small town. Jake Boudreaux fixes her car and watches her drive off.

But his small town is dangerous.

When she gets into trouble, he’s there to rescue her.

But now that he’s rescued her, he refuses to let her go. Jake insists marrying him is the only way to keep Saoirse safe.

But marrying a guy like Jake seems dangerous. There’s got to be a reason the whole town is afraid of her rangy, sexy rescuer.

And when she tries to escape from him she finds out why.

Jake Boudreaux runs half the state, but he’s never found it so hard to get something he wants. And he wants Saoirse. If he can only stop her from running away long enough to convince her to stay.

"You know, you're keeping me here by force," I said.
"Correct," Jake said. "And I'll continue to keep you here by force until you stop running away."

This book is a single, 1st-person POV standalone with a HEA ending. This is a fast-paced, steamy forced marriage Mafia romance, with some violent scenes that may be distressing to some people.

“If you’d had a husband,” he said, his eyes like a brand on my skin. “I would have killed him as soon as I’d hunted you down to take you. Nothing is going to stop me from marrying you.”

Summary:
Hot, gritty, country man rescues city princess librarian and claims her as his wife.

Review:
my heart 💗🩷💗🩷💗

This book was bloody and violent and unhinged, and I loved every second. I kept loving it more and more with every chapter. Need to go read every single one of Kate's other books immediately.

❤️‍🔥Addictive, Campy, & Wildly Hot❤️‍🔥

Jake Boudreaux is the terrifying, psycho, unhinged, obsessed, possessive, entitled, controlling, domineering, hardworking, auto-grease-covered, hand-break-pulling, manly man of my dreams.

Quotes 🥹🥹
(There are so, so, so many quotes I loved, I-unlike Jake-am restraining myself here. This is me restraining myself.)

“Well, you can’t want to marry me!” I said uneasily. “You don’t even know me.”
“No, I don’t,” said Jake agreeably, blowing a lazy smoke ring out the open window. “But I know I want to marry you.”
He flicked his eyes over to me again. “And I get what I want.”

-
He kissed me like it hurt him not to, like he wanted nothing else in the world beside the feel of his tongue on mine.

-
“Why do you keep introducing me as your wife?” I snapped.
“Because you’re going to be,” he said matter-of-factly, and I didn’t know how to argue with such obviously insane delusion.

-
“You’re basically abducting me, you know!”
“No basically about it,” he said, trapping both of my wrists behind my back so he could press his body against mine. “I want you, and I don’t care how I get you. Now let’s go have some pie.”

-
“Surely there’s other women that you can marry without having to kidnap them?”
“There’s hundreds of them,” Jake replied, tapping his cigarette case against his palm. “I want you, though.”

-
“What kind of town are you running here?”
I asked. Mr. Witherspoon sputtered incompetently.
“This man has kidnapped me,” I said indignantly, pointing to Jake. “He’s holding me here by force and you want the Sheriff to arrest ME?”
Mr. Witherspoon looked like a shifty rabbit.
“Is that true, Jake?” “Damn straight,” said Jake.
“And I’ll keep holding her by force until she stops fighting me.”
“Well, there you go,” Mr. Witherspoon said. “That sounds reasonable.”

-
“You’re going to be my wife because you’re mine. I’ve claimed you.”
“You can’t just
claim another person!” I protested.
“I can fucking claim
you,” he said.

-
He looked feral, savage, unbound, my blood still a smear on his lips and chin. He opened my mouth harshly, reaching down to kiss me, forcing his tongue in my mouth, forcing the tang of my own blood into my mouth.

-
“Take everything I give you,” he ordered.
And I knew I wanted to.

-
“I hate you, you goddamn criminal monster!” I yelled as loudly as I could.
Jake was unmoved. “You mean your goddamn criminal monster
husband,” he corrected me

-
He might be a criminal, kidnapper, abductor, drug lord, and stalker, but goddamn did he know how to fucking wear jeans.

I got the book for a review on booksirens. It was a short read but engaging and I liked most of it. The characters was mostly fun to read about and the stuff that kept happening and his family. But for me the love interest wast to much of an asshole of my liking and I couldn't really see much connection other then raw last and posseivness. But it was a good read overall but not my cup of tea with the actual romance.

Totally on the Kate Raven bandwagon by now. This was a funny, fast-paced little novella about a big city girl whose car breaks down in the South. She's rescued by what I can only describe as a blond Southern small-time drug lord, who promptly decides he's in love with her.

Very much not to be taken seriously, but an entertaining way to pass an afternoon.

4.75 smutty stars!

Moonshine Savage was savagely f*cked up and so ridiculously unrealistic that I LOVED it. Saoirse is on her way for a job interview and her car breaks down. A few scary locals try to kidnap her but it's the one that saves her that ultimately kidnaps and keeps her. Jake appears to be a friendly and easy going man but inside he's a psychotic work of art. As soon as he sets his eyes on Saoirse, this woman stands no chance. NO CHANCE.

“Fucking stop trying to escape, Saoirse. You have no idea how far I’d go to keep you.

There is literally nothing that Jake wouldn't do to keep his girl and we get a deliciously deviant insight into just how far he will take it. Saoirse fights back...obviously...but never wins and her body betrays her every time...naturally. Gotta make it a little consensual, right?

"The sooner you realize that there’s no choice except submission to me the better.”

Moonshine Savage had some great side characters, mystery surrounding Jake and his family that I was dying to discover, steam that had me blushing and a unique plot full of action. Caught between a turf war that she wasn't even aware of, Saoirse soon begins to realize Jake and his personal brand of possession may be what has always been missing in her life. Stockholm syndrome, anyone?

"I knew he could consume me and the embers would still be his.

Despite the darkness and kinky debauchery, I loved that Jake still had a soft side to him that appeared now and again for his girl. Was he a bulldozing alpha male with little to no morals? Absolutely. But he did everything to protect and keep Saoirse and it was super romantic and endearing in a screwed up way. Let's not forget that while he took a lot from her, he was also a giver.

“That’s a good girl, Saoirse. Come all over my face.”

Sooo overall, Moonshine Savage was definitely full of triggers and red flags but this kind of darkness and dominance is right up my alley and I loved reading this.

There were a few things I liked, but I had some serious issues. One of those being it didn't make any damn sense.

Saoirse (pronounced Sur-sha, because sure - give her a name nobody can pronounce) ends up stranded in a podunk town after her car breaks down. Hot mechanic, Jake Boudreaux, fixes her car and sends her on her way. Unfortunately, some hillbillies run her off the road with the intent of taking her and doing bad things. Jake shows up and beats up all the guys. Then he promptly informs her that she's his and they're going to get married. Jake takes her to his families trailer park, where nobody has air condition and the trailers sag and lean to the side. She meets the family, they worry about taking care of the corn crops and crap. Make some moonshine. There's a lot of her running away and Jake chasing her down. Eventually, she gives in and there's a HEA.

So here are my problems. I was convinced this had to be a shifter fic. Jake was compared to a lion many times. He knocked down a tree with his hands, he killed people with his bare hands. Everything he did was "primal" and his reactions were always animalistic. Marking her and joining their blood together. Being able to smell her and track her anywhere. I mean literally everything in this suggested he was a shifter. Turns out, he's just a drug kingpin. It didn't mesh with the story AT. ALL. None of this came off as mafia-ish.

The family was also apparently so loaded that he bought her a nearly $1m ring, but they can't get the AC fixed?? Honestly, not having AC really offended me.

Saoirse's new sister-in-law tells her all sorts of crap about Jake being a whore prior to meeting her and Sao just sits there and takes it. Then the S.I.L. hits Sao several different times and she just takes it. Bitch stand up for yourself!!!! There were at least 3 different times where the SIL attacked her physically, on top of the taunting and bullying. It just really pissed me the fuck off.

Finally - there was a lot of sex but it was all angry and sounded really freaking painful.

I debated between 2 and 3 stars, but I went with 2 because I couldn't get over Sao not standing up for herself and the fact that the author decided in the end to make this a mafia fic.

I actually wish someone else would read it just so you can confirm I'm not crazy.

Received by Booksirens. Nope, I didn't get paid for this. Yep, full honesty.
It was bit rapey blurred lines and unlike the drag queen romance, this one didn't have anything that set it apart. You've got a small town/ territory thing going on with weed and moonshine. I liked the family, but everyone pretty much turned a blind eye. Promises were made, violence happened, life went on.

Some books I've seen the trigger warnings for no lube and think huh. Is it such a big deal? This one rammed the answer across. It was rough and bare sex all the time and it was a little cringe. I actually winced the first time, because ouch. One thrust without prep? Either he has a small pecker or she's self lubricating. Yeah, bit full on. Think small town soap box. I did like when she finally stood up for herself. I'm not sure if Jake was obsessive or working on some past rejection issues. Wasn't really my thing.

Saoirse was full of snark and sas and some of the things out of her mouth was laugh out loud! Jake decides right away that she is going to be his and nothing is going to change that not even Saoirse. He is OTT for sure but hoooot 🥵. It was funny that there was so many obstacles that popped up in his way it was funny too since he is use to getting everything he wants his way. Once he got it tho he was obsessed and it was all kinds of dominant and hot.

Kate was a new to me author and what a Jewel this book was. Shorter read, read in an afternoon but I couldn’t put it down. Told in a single first person POV with a HEA ending.

The only negative I would have to point out if you are truly looking for a mafia read I don’t feel that this fills that role. Maybe Kingpin or Drug lord.

2.5 rounded up for the spice.

The relationship between Jake and Saoirse felt very unbelievable. I get that he's supposed to be this crazy, obsessive kidnapper but it just didn't feel legit at all.

I have 0 triggers and don't care about cursing but it was SO overdone in this book it reads borderline juvenile. When you're reading "goddamn" three sentences in a row the punch that the expletive is supposed to have just kinda loses its luster.

I think overall this book is a decent, quick read! Thank you to the author and publisher for my copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

“Moonshine Savage” is the story of Saoirse and Jake.

If you like crazy obsessed heroes who are absolute psychos- kidnaps the heroine who tries to make a dozen attempts to escape and fails- and everything about her turns him on- even her anger- this is the book for you. He was off his hinges, she tried but the. Stockholm set in.

Smutty, dark, cnc.

So, so, so, good.

This is the first book I have read from this author and it won’t be the last. I got this on kindle unlimited and not even halfway through I bought it. I would have payed more, so icing on the cake that it cost me less than a £1!
This book is the best redneck obsessive alpha male book I’ve read. The only thing that could have made this better was an epilogue showing them 10 or 20 years on with kids of their own and Jake still the same possessive alpha ar*$eho?e.

This book is filled with some very steamy sex scenes that are not for the feint of heart. It is filled with plenty of action, dark romance, mayhem and murder. This is not my normal read, but the book is well-written and I could not put it down until I reached the final chapter.

The book wasn’t bad, though my biggest critique is that it needed to slow down. It felt so rushed that I feel like I didn’t fully get to know the characters or realize I read the climax before it was over. Would have loved to see it fleshed out a little more for longer chapters. It was a quick read. Fast paced, so it didn’t take long to read. But I wish it had a little more meat to it.

Very close to DNF, thankfully it was a short novel.
Writing style was too fanfic-ish, and MCs were not likable at all.

Very close to DNF, thankfully it was a short novel. I generally like fictional red flag unhinged and obsessed hero but I couldn't like Jake, he was just meh. His actions were rather aggressive :(

Saoirse was not likable as well. Her sister in-law was a bitch to her but she didn't stand up at all and took it like a doormat.

The smut scenes were not exciting either it felt boring and annoying.

‼️no cheating, lil ow/om drama‼️

As someone from a small town, who actually sees others make/sell moonshine or sell drugs, this was fairly accurate. Was it absolutely romanticized and dramatized? 100%. Did I eat it up and love it anyway? Again, 100%.

The first few chapters had me like this 🤭 the whole time. Excuse me Jake but who said you could be this damn smooth and hot 🥵 Saoirse (Sur-sha) was trying to get home after her job interview when her car started smoking. She pulled off the highway to the nearest gas station. There is where she has a run in with some guys who were up to no good and Jake came to the rescue. He didn’t just save her once but twice and from that point on she was his and he was going to make her his wife. Oh I forgot the best part HE TAKE’S HER HOME AND WONT LET HER GO. I wasn’t sure if this would be creepy but the moment he introduces his family to her and says she’s his wife I knew this was going to be a wild ride. I did get super annoyed with how much she tried to run away. Like why? You have nothing to run back to. I started thinking she ran because the sex when she was caught was amazing 🤣 I’m all for a man who goes for what he wants and Jake definitely doesn’t hold back. I absolutely loved his whole family especially Gus. The amount of times I busted up laughing at Jake & Saoirse because they were absolutely ridiculous. I wasn’t sure if the book was suppose to be taken seriously or not but regardless I had one hell of a time reading it.

Jake is the most toxic, possessive, obsessive alpha male I’ve read in a long time, and I loved that about him. The great thing about fictional men like Jake is that you don’t have to consider how their behavior would fit into “real life.” You can simply enjoy the fantasy of a man who will do literally anything for his woman and just overlook the fact that he’s an absolute psycho. And he definitely is.

Saoirse is having a seriously bad day. She didn’t get the job she was hoping for, her car broke down and then she gets attacked by locals in the first tiny town she and her poor car limp into. She’s saved — twice — by Jake, which should be a good thing, but then he kidnaps her and declares she’ll be marrying him. Thus begins their unconventional, and at times uncomfortable, love story.

You may question whether Jake is even capable of love, but I like to think he is. Sure, it’s twisted, but I believe he does love Saoirse. Maybe that’s just me wanting to rationalize his behavior somehow, but regardless, I’ll be reading this book again.

I received a free copy of this book and have chosen to leave a review.

I am not really sure what I think about this book, it is well written but I really didn't connect with the characters, this of course is only my opinion,

Saoirse Byrne is driving home from an unsuccessful interview when her car breaks down miles away from anywhere, she is accosted by a group of wild looking men who were intent on violating her. Rescue came in the form of Jake Boudreaux, his property bordered the property of the attackers and they were deadly rivels in illicit trading, Jake was feared by everyone and he claimed Saoirse as his own, he would take her back to his people and his trailer, he would kill anyone who tried to take her away. Although Saoirse repeatedly tried to escape, i'm not sure that she really wanted to and Jake always found her and brought her back.

This book is very erotic but I didn't really feel a connection between the two and although they both confessed their love, I didn't really feel it.

I am sure that there are lots of people who will really love this book but sadly it wasn't for me.

I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

Okay so this is well, certainly for those who like obsessive, jealous, OTT possessive anti heroes and I certainly do, but this is a little too crazy even for me!

When Saoirse finds herself off the beaten track after a failed job interview and a car about to give up, little does she know that the owner of the local garage somewhere in the sticks will change her life for ever. But is the irresistibly good looking Jake all he seems?

No spoilers.

It is that this book is badly written - although the overuse of the words 'feral' and 'domination' are beyond irritating - it isn't it is just a little high on the ridiculous o'meter.

Having said there are though, some genuine laugh out loud moments with the banter and neware, triggers agogo so tread carefully. The descriptive narrative of the area and the relentless heat is well portrayed. Talking of heat the steam is off the charts and some of it dubious so again you have been warned.

It is short - I managed it in 3 hours! - and entertaining if you like this type of thing.

JP/OTT Southern Mafia Romance

I like this small town Mafia setting. Southern Mafia is so intriguing. The big issue I had was that the book repeated actions: "What you ladynapped me! You are mine! She runs away. He catches her. He rips her 🩲 or clothing. He has rough smex. She likes it." Rinse repeat:

👎🏾There are zero real conversations
👎🏾Only FMCs pov
👎🏾 little inner dialogue besides " he can't possibly want me. You can't ladynap people. I want him. I will run away. "😩
👎🏾 no real character development until 90% of the book😮‍💨
👎🏾 ILY at 97% of the book 😒

I really enjoyed the writing just wish there was more there there

I am sooo disappointed with this book!! It had sooo much potential, but 😢👎
Honestly from the title and cover and description I expected an over-the-top alpha, which we got…. Sort of?

Saoirse is driving to a job interview (as a librarian…🙄) when her car breaks down, in the middle of nowhere. Next thing she knows, she’s being taken home by the mechanic/ good samaritan and told she is going to be his wife. Kinda hot, yeah, but why does he want her? We never REALLY know….

Let’s get into some of my main issues:

He never once says why he picks her. Is she pretty? Sexy? Is he just using her? Is he even serious? Is he just trying to get some sex? I kept wanting her to say “I’ll sleep with you but I really don’t need to marry you”.
Think Sweet Home Alabama film….
“Why you want to marry me anyhow??” He’s even a blond, blue eyed guy named Jake😂.
Anyway we never find out, other than:
“Why do you want to marry me so badly?” I asked heatedly.
He gave me a look, and then headed up the stairs to his parents’ trailer.
“If you’d had a husband,” he said, his eyes like a brand on my skin. “I would have killed him as soon as I’d hunted you down to take you. Nothing is going to stop me from marrying you.”

Wow! What a great reason?? That is all we get. No wonder she keeps running off. How about you love her? She’s beautiful? She’s strong and tough and everything you need?? Nah, she’s “just his” that’s all. Possessiveness is only hot when the guy wants EVERYTHING about her, not just to keep her as another possession.
Toward the end of the book, where we should get at least SOMETHING…some reason… instead we get this…

“I didn’t fucking abduct you for you to get yourself killed by a meth dealer,” he growled angrily.
“Well, then why did you?” I gasped.
He jerked my face in to kiss me, his kiss hard and demanding. “All I did was take what’s mine. I took you so no one else could touch what’s mine.”

My other huge issue was the steamy sex scenes, or lack there of. The plot and secondary characters were ok but I couldn’t figure out if this was supposed to be steamy erotica (it was NOT) or a intense drug war plot with murder and violence, which was also too underdeveloped. It felt like it was supposed to be erotica but the sex was a snooze-fest with repetitious wording and little detail.

…he entered me, the violence of his thrusts raising my hips from the bed. I felt the power of his obsession fill me as the pressure began to build in my core and a flame burned in my chest. And then I felt my orgasm…

Cut scene. This is not hot erotica, it’s a 3 second f*ck, let’s hope he does better next time😂🥱

…he shoved his dick through my legs and into my pussy. His cock pulled and ripped and tore and filled me…

Kinda hot, right? But that is it. That’s pretty much all the detail we get since he’s always in a rush. It’s basically he shoves it in, throw in the same descriptive words every single time (ripped & tore), they come, it’s over🥱😴😴🥱. By the way, “ripped and tore through her” by themselves (no more detail) are just “ouch”- NOT HOT💦🔥

Let’s not even mention that she just leaves her life forever and never even goes back to get any of her stuff- and NO ONE looks for her? Poor girl had no belongings, no friends, no life, no job?? No wonder she didn’t put up much fight😂 She did try to run away a few times but she had zero plan and only gave herself seconds before he’d find out. Poor girl really was TSTL…

Hard pass on this author for me, there’s way better erotica, kidnap porn and/ or suspenseful thrillers (whatever this was TRYING to be) out there to read.

I wish this was longer!

Jake helps Saorise when she gets car trouble and then saves her when his enemies run her off the road, trying to take her. He claims her as his and brings her back to his place, telling everyone she is going to be his wife. She tries to escape several times in this book, which I absolutely loved! She doesn't throw in the towel after one failed attempt.
I also loved how possessive and obsessive Jake was. He instantly chases after her and brings her back every. single time.
The 2 times he didn't know where she was, he yells and causes a commotion - I just love that possessiveness (disclaimer: in books).

He forces her to marry him within a week and pretty much threatens/blackmails everyone else in the town into letting him do it. They're too afraid of him to actually stop him and tell Saoirse to accept it.

At one point, he wants to make sure she's not marrying him for his money, so he gets her a simple moonstone ring to see her reaction. She loved it. But, after they're married, he goes out to buy her an ostentatious ring, calling hers shitty and it was just a test. She's hurt because she loves her ring, thinking he picked it out thoughtfully, and hates big rings anyway. She thinks he's poor (because they live in a trailer during the summer months, but they are super rich and own the town because he is a drug lord), and tells him he shouldn't get into debt for a ring.
She gets mad because he accused her of being like his sister in law who demanded a bigger ring, and he was afraid she wanted him for his money. The irony is he's the one forcing her to marry him lol
I love that she starts to cry here and he goes to get her ring back after throwing it out the window.

She accepts her new reality and I love how down to earth she is - getting her hands dirty to help the family with their crops (which turns out to be weed they are growing because he is a drug lord).
Her sassy attitude gets an upgrade, likely inspired by Jake's own dominant personality, but she fights back whenever his enemies cause trouble: like when their dog attacks Jake's dog and Saoirse gets upset, grabbing that dog by the mouth to let him go. She also demands to see a vet instead of waiting and throws her married name around knowing the influence it has.
She throws hands with the sister in law who seems to be possessive over Jake because they hooked up years ago.

She chases after the enemies because they've taken Jake's parents and she helps them escape back to their territory until Jake comes to help.

She's a badass, and Jake picked a good queen for his kingdom.

One extra star for a good idea.

Just about everything about this book was not great; the plot: confused and repetitive are about the nicest things I could say for it; the characters: painfully one-note with no character development to speak of, as well as being entirely unpleasant; and the writing read very much like a first pass.
All of this might have been saved by the setting. I have frankly read some otherwise not great stuff with a well done setting. Unfortunately, I guess the author didn’t bother to rewatch Justified or even Smokey and the Bandit (I, person who has never been further southeast than New York City, am certainly not saying that either authentically represents the southeastern United States, but I do think that both works have a good sense of setting). Aside from being set generically in ‘the South,’ I don’t think the author has any idea where in the South this story is set, which is not great since even I, ignorant Canuck though I may be, know there are some substantial cultural differences between different regions in the South. In the absence of regional specificity, the author just kind of goes for all of them and the result is just bad.
