Dates And Other Nuts

Rate this book
Dates from hell. Or at least that's what date number 867-and the other 866-felt like to Temple Burney. She'd promised her grandmother she'd make one last attempt to find Mr. Right, but she might as well have added or die trying! A nunnery was becoming more and more appealing. . . until she realized Mr. Wonderful was right in front of her. Problem was Craig hadn't noticed her either. Talk about love being blind!

Lori Copeland was born on 12 June 1941. She had a relatively late start in writing, breaking into publishing in 1982 when she was already forty years old. Over the next dozen years, her romance novels achieved much success, as was evidenced by her winning the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, The Holt Medallion, and Walden Books' Best Seller award. She has been inducted into the Missouri Writers Hall of Fame.

Despite her success in more mainstream romantic fiction, in 1995, she decided to switch focus. Her subsequent books have been in the relatively new subgenre of Christian romance. She has also collaborated with authors Angela Elwell Hunt or Virginia Smith on a series of Christian romance novels.

Lori and her husband of over forty years, Lance, live in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by the beautiful Ozarks. They have three grown sons, three daughter-in-laws, and six wonderful grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. She and her husband are very involved in their church, and active in supporting mission work in Mali, West Africa.

I've read some books in this line and they were funny, sadly this was not. I thought it would be promising, a friend to lovers story, but the heroine annoyed me. She persisted on going through with her stupid dates even when the hero made it clear, he wanted them to try

I read this book years ago when a friend recommended it. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I was hooked right away. I LOVE romantic comedies, and this one had me laughing from beginning to end. Dates from hell, we've all had them. Would recommend this if you need a good pick-me-up.

My husband and I are slowly going through the Harlequin Love & Laughter Series as we find these books from the '90s for sale online. They are not found in thrift stores here in Canada. We read each book aloud to one another because we both love watching rom-com movies together. My husband cannot stand reading a book or watching a movie that has a tragic or unhappy ending. Because we have found true love, we are quite discerning when it comes to writing about it. It feels as though too many romance authors have not found their soul mates, do not know how men and women talk to one another, do not write plots that have enough happening, and have never experienced the magic of good sex between those who truly love one another. Nothing is worse than one of us saying when the characters hop into bed together, "Here comes the boring part." This did not happen with this book. The love scene was well written, the dialog between the two main characters was convincing, and the story was something that we could picture as a great romantic comedy film.

Our only complaints were about how long each bad date lasted. Each date from hell was more tedious to read than it was funny. Both of us would have bailed on these dates in real life much sooner. Too many date did not need nine character flaws. One would be enough. So, I give this book four stars instead of five. It was however an enjoyable read. I hope you will give it a chance.

It's okay, a bit second-rate rom-com. The humor was a bit thin. Read it because a relative demanded it. The most baffling thing is that why this was supposedly set in the 1990s - the fashions, the slang, and references (they even mentioned baby asprin, for pete's sake) were straight out of the 1970s. It was very confusing to juggle.

Romantic comedies don't work when a) nothing's funny and b) you don't understand what one person sees in the other.
