Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Unpopular opinion: I never liked Usopp going against Luffy for the Merri. I understand his feelings, but he never even stopped to consider that Luffy and the others were feeling the same

This is probably the single best One Piece volume to date. It's got such emotional stakes that no other part of the story till now - perhaps ever - can match: two characters that we've gotten to know throughout the entire story come to blows, in a believable and realistic manner where you can absolutely see both points of view and kind of agree with both and could likely not think of a way to reconcile them yourself. It's been a long time coming and set up very well in the preceding volumes, and it leads to Usopp the coward's finest and bravest moment, against one friend for the sake of another, followed by some misery and grief that's only the beginning.

Not trying to knock on some of the recent arcs and stories, which are all great, but in my mind, Water 7 and Enies Lobby still rule supreme.

One Piece, Vol. 35 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (328–336) of the on-going manga series.

This tankōbon continues the Water Seven Arc. Monkey D. Luffy reluctantly decides to abandon the ship. Usopp, having grown attached to the Going Merry, is unwilling to take this course of action and challenges Luffy's captaincy. Once defeated, Usopp decides to leave the Straw Hats, and the others go searching for a new ship.

Meanwhile, the Aqua Laguna, an annual storm that strikes Water Seven, is about to return. To coincide with this Iceburg, the owner of Galley-La, is attacked, and Nico Robin is labeled as the prime suspect. Knowing Robin is a member of the Straw Hats, all of Water Seven turns against them.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well. The Going Merry, the ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, is badly damaged that Monkey D. Luffy reluctantly decides to abandon her. Predictably, since the ship was from his childhood friend and possible love Kaya, Usopp is reluctant to leave her behind and challenges and loses the captaincy and decides to part ways with the Straw Hat Pirates – a first in the series.

All in all, One Piece, Vol. 35 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

2025 reread : this is one of the volumes I'm always reluctant to reread. Not because it is bad, I just hate to see the strawhats being torn apart like this. I know it's great for character growth, but it's painful. The only comforting thing in there is the introduction of Franky, whose entrance is... memorable *laughing forever*






This arc is so painful. First because of the Merry. And due to the tensions in the crew. I do think Luffy handles it as best as he can. But it hurts to read anyway.

Usopp's character is a centerpiece to this story arc as his whole existence is put into question following mistakes and failures that he can barely live with. This leads to him being overly dramatic and giving himself the ultimatum that he so desired. The end builds up to an epic battle with Franky finally showing up and a third party intervening.

Usopp is such a darling and lovable character. He tries so hard and loves his nakama so much. Who can't relate his story here of not feeling worthy and being afraid to face them after being beaten?

Obviously Merry is special to the entire crew, but she holds special meaning to Usopp, in particular, since she did come from his village and was gifted to them from Kaya. If anything hurts more than watching the fight between Luffy and Usopp, it's definitely Merry crying about it at the end of chapter 332.

Corazón en la mano desde el primer capítulo, como siempre Oda sabiendo controlar mis emociones a su gusto, pero creo que en este tomo realmente se lució.

Este tomo fue de los más dolorosos y difíciles de leer hasta ahora, y por donde va la cosa creo que vamos a seguir sufriendo un buen rato. Siempre me pregunté como sería si llegaba el momento en el que no todo en el barco sería risas y felicidad, porque a pesar de los momentos difíciles nunca habían pasado conflictos ENTRE ellos, y de verdad que me impresionó lo bien tratado que estuvo, me quedo sin palabras.

Otra cosa que tomo muy en cuenta es como se nos muestra que Luffy puede ser serio (y de verdad que puede, oh dios) y, a demás, creo que algo importante también es que no se nos había mostrado esa parte más emocional(?) si se quiere, de este personaje desde que nos muestra su pasado, y lo veo como algo super destacable porque hasta ahora todos tuvieron su momento importante y emocional, pero no habíamos llegado a Luffy y como se siente nuestro Capitán (un título más acertado para este tomo no había). A demás, nos hace empatizar muchísimo con el personaje.

Nada, que este arco esta siendo de mis favoritos hasta ahora y tengo una curiosidad tremenda sobre Robin, no puedo esperar a saber todo.

Finally some real tension in the straw hat crew!! It can’t be all rainbows and friendship all the time- a break from the pact was bound to happen and it makes sense it would be Usopp over Luffy’s decision to abandon the Merry Go ship. Their confrontation and the 1v1 match that followed is all that I hope to see happen more in One Piece. Give me dramaaaaa ~~~~ 🙂‍↕️

I did take one star off because I’m a lil iffy about Franky. The outright flamboyant characters always bother me loool ☠️

Se me ha hecho más fluido que los anteriores y al menos me ha interesado, pero no llevo nada bien que dese hace varios tomos los personajes estén tan ooc en pro de buscar peleas sin sentido.

Este arco me encanta pero me rompe el corazoncito 🥺 Merry Merry Merry, ya dieron la noticia, no tiene arreglo. La quilla que es la columna del barco está rota. Luffy y Nami recibieron la noticia, no sé lo tomaron bien. Aún con el dinero que tienen de sus aventuras en la isla del cielo no pueden salvar a Merry. A Usopp por otra parte se lo llevaron junto a parte del dinero los secuaces de Franky. Le dieron una paliza pero los muwis más fuertes fueron a tomar la revancha aunque llegaron tarde para recuperar el dinero.

Y bueno le contaron a Usopp lo del barco, desde siempre he pensado que toda esta situación no la manejan con suficiente comunicación pero de todas formas Usopp igual se pasó, desafío la autoridad de luffy como capitán se sublevó y no está bien. Aunque si que debieron haber conversado las cosas pero bueno 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ahora ya Usopp está fuera de la tripulación, se batió a un duelo con Luffy por el going Merry. El ganador fue obviamente Luffy pero aún así le cedió el cedió el barco a Usopp ya que no volverán a navegar en él 🥺

Por otra parte Robin anda extraviada, se topo con alguien en la calle, "CP9" 🤭 y ahora está con este personaje misterioso. Y juntos atacaron a Iceburg, le dispararon, aún no sabemos más detalles.
Y finalmente termina el volumen en medio de un enfrentamiento en Franky y Luffy. Y ojito que ahora de unieron los carpinteros de Galley la.

How am I tearing up over a wooden ship? Is Oda a wizard or is my emotional regulation that terrible?

Was also not prepared for the emotional depth of Usopp's crisis. That whole sequence was a surprising gum-gum pistol to the heart.

I needed a strong volume like this. Very excited to see how this all turns out!
