Prince V'sair has spent his life sheltered within his family's home and while those years were spent learning, training and doing his best to become a fit rule for his people...he also knows that most of his people look at him with derision and hatred.

Planet Darracia is home to a strong and proud people - one that places heritage above almost all else.

And they didn't take too kindly to their King hopping a planet over to find a bride from Planta.

The people of Planta and Darracia have never gotten along, and now that the crowned prince is half of each...the two worlds are on brink of war.

V'sair must find a way to unite his people before his conniving uncle tears the worlds apart, permanently.

I don't know what I expected going into this story but this gorgeous story just took me for a complete surprise.

I just love it when a book sweeps you off your feet and Schism certainly did that. I never had any idea where the plot was going and that's what made it perfect for me.

V'sair's character - internal doubts, and struggles - really made him feel real to me. I enjoyed watching him acknowledge and then try to overcome his limitations.

I also really liked the setting of this book - the little alien tidbits were fascinating and really rounded out the story!

Does intolerance of people’s differences go beyond our planet? What of jealousy and the quest for power? Is it thicker than blood? Schism by Michael Phillip Cash is a fascinating and intense dark fantasy/Sci-fi filled with everything that makes for excellent, magnetic reading! Prejudice, love, greed, trust, the lust for power, deceit, cruelty and bloodshed, it’s all here in the first book of what looks to be an amazing journey to another planet somewhere in the heavens.
The ever-widening gap between the different classes is causing unrest to the once peaceful plant of Darracia, the haves get more, the have-nots lose what little they have and are beginning to fight back. Considered inferior to those around him, young Prince V’sair struggles to be seen as warrior material, in spite of his smaller stature and different skin coloring. He is a half-breed, part Darracian, part Planta. Smart, filled with knowledge from books, he still longs to feel the power of the Elements in the Fireblade, a weapon that can only be wielded by one blessed with a warrior’s heart. Forbidden to risk his life in a quest to find the powerful weapon, V’sair chafes at being trapped between wanting to help his people and needing to obey the King and Queen. But there is more to the unrest among the classes than meets the eye. Someone nearby is a traitor and it may be up to V’sair to save his world, but how? Unprepared for what awaits him outside of his castle, V’sair finds strength in love, honor and in believing in himself as he stands against the odds and the evil betrayers around him.

No doubt about it, Michael Phillip Cash can build a world with depth and clarity and then populate it characters that one can see in their minds. Soar above the clouds on a flying horse-type creature, feel the tension, feel the fear and wonder of V’sair as he runs into danger, faces near death and the love of a girl whose skin is as red as his is blue. Mr. Cash introduces each character with ease and enables the reader to see who to watch for, who to root for and who to hiss at. He has created magic with his words that transport you into another world as good battle evil in the takeover of Darracia and a boy becomes a warrior with heart.

As the foundation from which this series will build, Schism is a powerful testament to the power of the imagination when guided by a masterful storyteller.

I received this copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Schism opens with Prince V’Sair and his navigator Emmicus going over lessons. Like most teenagers, Prince V’Sair is not interested in what his teacher is trying to teach him. All he cares about is the Fireblade and trying to harness its power. His parents are different races and Prince V’Sair is a blend of them.

But there is unrest on the planet Darracia. The warrior-class, the Darracians, live amongst the clouds and are the upper-class. The Quyroos, meanwhile, are the labor-force and live in the trees or on the ground. They’re considered the lower-class and many of them are servants/slaves. V’Sair’s parents (the King and Queen) are trying to unite the planet but not everyone is pleased. There’s a coup and King Drakko’s own brother is behind it. Many die (including the king) and in one swift moment, everything changes for Prince V’Sair.

This was a good introduction to the series. While I found the POV difficult to follow at first, once the coup happened, the action propelled me to keep reading. A slow start but I understand because the author was world-building.

My Rating: 4 stars

Although this may not be the usual genre that I would select to read, I found this to be a great read! The story is action-packed! It is a tad bit violent at moments but most science fiction with battles are. What I liked was that this was more than just a battle between good and evil! This story is an engaging one about a kingdom on another planet. The King marries a woman who is not in the same race. She is not Darracia and is Planta. Those who can't accept this, can't accept change and are set in the old ways. Unfortunately, one of those is none other than the own King's brother. *Schism means a split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties, caused by differences in opinion or belief.* Cash could not have chosen a better title to fit this book. He weaves this story with great imagination and it engaged me from beginning to ending. His descriptions and characters are so well done that I felt myself rooting for good to win over evil. Back to the story- the King of Darracia and his wife, the Queen have a son, who of course, has traits from both of his parents. Prince V'Sair is the young son who is half Darracia and half Planta. He really is the best of both although he feels inferior and is angry especially because he has not been told the secrets of the elements. What? Elements? I don't want to give away the entire plot but the elements teach valuable lessons. The boy's Uncle and his wife decide to attempt to take over the kingdom and there is a battle. Can Prince V'Sair save the day, so to speak? He is young but he may just do it with some help, of course! You will have to read the book to find out! I actually couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. This turned out to be one of my favorite books by Micheal Phillip Cash and I am looking forward to Schism: Book ll.

The Battle for DarraciaI definitely like how this author writes. I finished this book in a little over 2 hours. It is about a mythical world where there are three types of life forms. There are those who live up in the clouds who essentially rule, there are those who live in the tree tops and then there are the outcasts who live on the ground. But times are changing in the land and the King has married a different type of being and they have a child. The King has a brother--hum------Yes, this is a good vs evil type book with lots of action. Your teens will love this one so after you read it--hand it over!!

My Review:
I recently had the opportunity to read another book by Michael Phillip Cash. I have been rather enthralled with his thriller books and could not wait for his book Schism to come out.

I was particularly interested in this book because I am somewhat of a Sci-fi buff. Michael Cash had changed genres with this book to be Sci-fi so, my interest was peaked. A risky venture for Mr. Cash for sure, but I was not disappointed in the least.

The book tells of a world, Darracia that has three levels of distinct social order. The top ruling group literally lives in the clouds and rides great winged horses. They are warriors and use the power of the Fireblade, a multi-glowing sword, as their strength.

Prince V'sair is the next in line for the throne but is frustrated that his parents have not allowed him to have taken on the power of the Fireblade but have favored education instead. On a journey to a lower level of Darracia, with a servant girl, he finds the secrets to the Fireblade as well as love and the strength of family. Additionally, he finds out that not all things or people are what they seem and that working together may just be the key.

These ideals are what his father, the King, has tried to instill in him but he will only begin to learn these things when his Uncle, Staf Nuen, organizes a coup and tries to have him and the King killed. Through his new found identity, the Prince faces warfare and inner conflict.
-----------------
I of course cannot give the complete details of this first book in the series away. I can say that the book will keep you on the edge of your seat, only as Michael Phillip Cash can do.
I was happy that this book did not leave me hanging at the end to wait for the next book. I really hate that!
However, there is so much more to know about Darracia, the people, and if Prince V'sair will be able to lead his people. That I will indeed have to wait until book two.

For now, I recommend you read this first book and be thrilled like I was. You will not be disappointed.

This gets a 4 out of 5 stars!

Earning a degree in English and an MBA, he has worked various jobs before settling into being a full-time author. Michael currently resides on Long Island with his wife and children.

My Review:
V'sair sits among his tutor once again listening to the history of his ancestors. He thinks of all the good things he could be doing, things that could help his people. But he has to listen to what both his parents say, and study up on the things that happened long ago. When he hears of the Fireblade, it sparks the thought of adventure in his great mind. But as he tells his parents, they tell him of the dangers and how they will forbid him from leaving the palace. Even though he feels he should follow his parents rules, something in him wants to fined the Fireblade. Though he needs to take heed to his parents warnings, he heads out into the great unknown to find the Fireblade.

Reminda hates to know her son, feels useless, and less of a man. She is willing to help him with anything his heart desires but finding the Fireblade. Her son scares her with the ways he acts, and she is often worried he will do something stupid. But then again she thinks it would be good for him to go on an adventure, to take time by himself and do something good. Pros:

I will start off with the fact that I did enjoy this book. Now this author has published quite a few "horror" based novels and this is the first time he has written and published a "fantasy" genre book and I have to say he did a really good job with this book. The characters were enjoyable and the plot line was really good. Though it was your typical heroic type storyline the author has a good writing style so you don't become bored as your reading through the book. There weren't really any major plot twists but the book didn't end on a major cliff hanger so the author gets point for that. Now as for the content you had a little bit of everything. You had new creatures to read about and there was combat, romance, betrayal and of course a rebellion for a throne. Therefore this book is a win for me by the end, but I do want to point out one thing before I leave off.

Cons:

So in the end I had only one problem with this book and to me it's a biggy. The book is only 201 pages long, so it was a really fast read for me but since the book is short but had a big plot line everything happened way to fast. For example the romance here was not your typical romance but pretty much the next day after the two characters got it on, the prince declared his love. Which is nice but I just wished they got to know each other better before they…well you know. The beginning had a nice pace, though a little fast I was able to get to know the characters and follow along but as I was flipping thorough the pages, everything just started to become really rushed, especially the ending. The ending was well a happy ending but it sorta sucked for me. I was not satisfied because everything was rushed, like abnormally rushed. I felt that for the last few chapters the author just pushed the fast forward button quite a few times because everything was just thrown around and bam the book ended.

Now I really hope the author takes his time with his next book because he does have a talent for writing, he just has to work on his timing. I will definitely be reading the next installment for this series because I really want to know what happens and frankly I want to see where the author takes his characters next. Well the ones that are still alive that is.

REVIEW

I have been a fan of Mr. Cash, having read BROOD X, STILLWELL, THE HANGING TREE, and now SCHISM. I'm now working on the second book of THE BATTLE FOR DARRACIA, COLLISION. I don't normally care for sci fi stories, but Mr. Cash writes with such passion and imagination in his stories that I have become a fan of his books.

SCHISM takes place on a fictional planet with fictional characters. I had a bit of trouble with the chracters' names. But that is what sci fi brings you. A different world which means a diversion from reality.

I think the average reader has to enter this sci fi world of SCHISM with an open mind. Remember it is sci fi. A look into the possible future. In order to do that the reader has to let go of reality, (just while reading the book) and shift into another world, another time.

Even though the book is fiction, is there just a remote possibility that it could happen? Remember, keep that mind open. If the readers don't do that, then what is the point of reading any sci fi at all? None.

The author put you right there in the setting, in this other world that he created. Once you start reading you forget everything else, except going further into Michael Phillip Cash's sci fi thriller world.

I feel when a book makes the reader's imagination start working then it is a good book. Such much of the time these days, adults don't use their imagination and especially children. Imagination is the start of great things to come.

I would recommend this book and all of the other books of Mr. Cash's. They make that mind work. They let you escape reality for just a short while and they give the reader the possibility that this may happen.

I was given a complimentary copy of SCHISM from the author, Michael Phillip Cash for my viewpoint. No other compensation took place.

Science Fiction has long been a convenient way to thinly disguise social commentary in a way that allows them, sci-fi writers, to "get away with it." Sometimes it is subtle (the very quick, first interracial kiss on TV between Kirk and Uhura) or clobbers you over the head (3 hours of Avatar anyone? I get it, destroying the environment is bad). Either way it serves to get a message out that would otherwise be flat out ignored by many or in some cases denied or protested.

So it is with Michael Phillip Cash’s, Schism: The Battle for Darracia. Here you have V'Sair, a mixed race kid (from Darracia and Planta) who happens to live in a peaceful, relatively tolerant society, but who is struggling to find his identity. Along comes his evil uncle who wants to return to the older more traditional ways. Oh did I mention that V'Sair happens to be the prince, and his parents, the king and queen, happen to be the mixed race couple. V'Sair must learn to control the elements and wield the Fireblade to rescue his parents and defeat his uncle.

Super subtle? No. Effective and engaging? Yes.

The story drew me in quickly and kept me entertained and turning pages. I'm not going to ruin the ending but I knocked this thing out in one day, and that's something I normally only do for slutty adult books ;)

The planet Darracia has two classes of people with tension getting higher between the two groups and potential fighting just around the corner. The king, a Darracian, has married below his class to a Planta. Prince V’sair is a mixed breed and is always looked down on because of his size and skin color. But he wants to prove that he is a warrior and wants to go on the quest for a Fireblade, one that only works for a person with a warrior’s heart.

At the same time Staf Nuen, the kings brother, has decided he has had enough of this social disgrace and that he is going to take over the throne. It is up to V’sair to find the Fireblade, learn how to use it, defeat his uncle, and join the classes of his home.

This is a great story. You have the clear social class issue and how the brother is planning on over throwing the throne. I felt for V’sai, born a half-blood and constantly looked down on because of it. I loved how his mother understood why he wanted the Fireblade and encouraged him.

The only thing that I can think of that would be a negative would be that the book was very rushed. There was a lot of area to cover and I think a longer book would have had a better flow. Beyond that, this is a great book that you don’t want to miss. Now I can’t wait to read book 2.

“Schism: The Battle For Darracia” by Michael Phillip Cash isn't in my usual reading genre. While I used to read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, I just don't read that much of it any more. But since Cash sent me some of his books to review, I thought I'd work it in, and I'm glad that I did. It was a quick fun read that I did enjoy.

It's a pretty simple story that takes place on the planet Darracia, and involves a power struggle between the king, his brother and their sons. The story plays out well with a little romance, some action, and a good dose of suspense that keeps you wanting to turn pages. This is the first novel in the “Battle for Darracia” series, and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

The only thing I didn't care for that much were some of the names used. Yes, I realize this is another world and it's fantasy, but I just didn't care for the names. That didn't keep me from enjoying the story.

If you are looking for some science fiction/fantasy, check out Michael Phillip Cash's “Schism.” It's the beginning of a fun series.

Difficult times are upon the royal family that rule Darracia. For years they have been separated into 3 lifestyles…ones that live in the clouds, the trees, and on the forest floor. Something evil is stirring that will change everything and at the helm of that change is V’sairs Uncle and cousin. Through all of this V’sair is struggling with where he is supposed to fit in life. Not full Darracian he feels like an outside and how are you eventually supposed to rule if they wont accept you?

This book is full of action and has characters that are well developed and that we can connect with. We are given epic battle scenes, deception, discovery of ones destiny, finding yourself, and a little romance. This is an EPIC fantasy and I love how Cash has written this fast paced and gripping world! I can not wait to see what happens I the next books!

I was a little leery about reading this book because I am not much for Sci-Fi, but like always, I gave this book a chance. Boy, was I ever glad that I did too. It's an amazing story that had me glued from beginning to end. It's extremely fast paced and very well written. This author knows how to capture his audience and keep us entertained. It's a recommended must read for Teen and Ya alike to sink your teeth into for hours of enjoyable reading. I felt as if I had a movie going in my head as I read through the story. It's phenomenally addicting and I felt as if I had a one on one life experience with V'sair. I am sad that the story ended the way it did, but I am very anxious about the next book and what lies in store for our characters.

Cash knows how to tell a story. I am a fan of his so I read this book. I am not normally a Sci Fi fan but this book wraps a great palace intrigue and coup story in a cloak of sci fi fantasy and it works. My son picked it up first. Read it one night. Told me I had to move it to the front of my stack of books. So I did. Boy am I glad I did.

Michael Philip Cash never disappoints.

Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Michael Phillip Cash's series The Battle for Darracia is a wonderful work of science fiction. It takes you to a new and exciting world of aliens with problems that are much like our own. In his first book of the series, Schism, we are introduced to the full cast of the people of Darracia. Although the characters are otherworldly, they are very relatable and one can understand the plight of all the different people involved in the story.

There are many characters that all have a part in the story. Drakko, the King of Darracia and Reminda(an implant from Planta), his Queen. Their son and heir to the throne, V'Sair and his love, the Quyroo, Tulani. Zayden, the bastard son of Drakko, and fierce warrior. Staf Nuen, Drakko's brother who is hungry for power and the throne. Bobbien, Tulani's Grandeam, who is the high priestess of the Quyroos. There are three species that live on Darracia: Darracians, the sky dwellers, Quyroos, land Dwellers and the Welks, from the sea. The Elements are their deities and want harmony in the land.

In the book, the dialogues intersect and mingle through all of the characters, each telling their story in a way that meshes together to create a beautiful story of coming of age, fighting for unity and love. In this first book we are introduced to the world of Darracia. This world is in turmoil, the mighty Darracians are on the top of the hierarchy. The Quyroos are slaves in the world.

The King, Drakko wants to bring about change to the land and unite all races. However, there are many who don't share his views. The plot thickens when things turn for the worst for the ruling family, and the world is turned into chaos.

I was totally ensnared by this book. It was magically created with many twists and turns that kept me engaged. When I was finished, I was wanting to know what would happen next! The Elements have spoken, Michael. Great job!

I was sent Schism in exchange for an honest review.

What is probably my favourite thing about this book is the diversity of the species. Instead of making them all similar with just different shapes ears and different coloured eyes – like most authors tend to do – Cash actually gave each species different coloured skin, hair, some had tails, others had webbed hands, some had star-shaped eyes. I love this diversity, as it makes it seem more real somehow.

This transferred quite well into V’sair’s development as a character, because he a half-breed, meaning he is only half Darracian, as his mother is a different species to his father. This obviously causes some turmoil and sets him apart from the rest of the Darracian’s, as he looks entirely different and he is also a lot smaller. He was groomed so his intellect was his strength, but due to the fact that most Darracian’s were mostly brawn, this means that there was an ever-widening gap between himself and his fellow Darracian’s. V’sair spent most of the book fighting to be like them, before realising – quite suddenly and slightly overdramatically – that he was fine the way he was.

‘Suddenly’ and ‘overdramatically’ are both words I would use to describe most of the aspects of this book. The entire book was short and fast-paced, sometimes too fast-paced. Conclusions were found too quickly in my opinion, and if this was another hundred pages longer I think it would have been a lot better. The only part that I think was the perfect length, was the beginning where introductions were made explaining this world. In comparison to the rest of the book it was slow, but I think that really it was the rest of the book that was too fast.

This ‘pacing error’ transcended into a lot of the realisations that V’sair, and other characters, had to make to conclude the book, making them seem rather sudden, as if they come out of nowhere. One of these realisations was the romance between V’sair and Tulani, which literally appeared out of thin air. It wasn’t until that day that V’sair had even noticed Tulani, but soon he was saying he loves her, and I really don’t understand how that could happen out of the few conversations that they had had.

But I did like the fact that equality between all species is the aim of probably the entire trilogy – and that’s a very important message. I also did like the characters, particularly Zayden and V’sair’s mother, who were both interest – the latter is rather cunning and I like that. Another appeal this book had to me was the action. You should know by now that I love action books and films, so the fact that there was fighting, and swords, and blood really appealed to me.

Overall this is definitely not a bad book. I will continue to read the rest of the trilogy in hope that the pacing is a lot better the next two books.

I would like to thank the author for being so kind to send me a copy of the book to read in exchange for an honest review.

This book is well worth the 5 star rating that I am giving it because the cover art, the authors writing style and word building skills are second to none, and the combination of all of these things means that it is an amazing book that I will definitely read again as well as buy a copy of for my kindle.

I loved the fact that Michael started the book by giving the reader (me) definition for Schism (noun\s(k)izam: A split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties, caused by differences in opinion or belief.). Now I have read the book I can see that this title is a whoely appropriate one because not only is their is a split in the planets society as whole but also with in the Royal family itself as well.

The book introduces the reader to the Planet of Darracia and how the ever widening gap between the social classes on the planet is causing turmoil as well as to the struggle that the nineteen year old Prince V'sair is having with harnessing the power of the elusive Fireblade, which is the secret to a warrior's heart. It is so important for him to do this so he can overcome his uncle Staf Nuen's supremacy but he can only do it with the guidance of the Elements as to what his true destiny is. It also not only introduces you to all the species i=on the planet but also the planets and their species in the solar system.

The love story that develops between the Prince and his mothers handmaid is so endearing and when she has to return to her home on the planet "the dessa" after she becomes a high priestess you can feel the pain that it causes both of them. I loved the book from beginning to end because the authors descriptions and ways he built the world over and over again kept me enthralled but it also enabled me to see what life was like for all the planets inhabitants. It also made me feel a strong connection to the Prince.

So all in all I cant wait to read the other two books in the series so far, in fact I have already started reading the second book and will recommend the book to others as well as buy it as a gift for friends/family.

Reading “Schism: The Battle For Darracia” is like watching a great 3-D science fiction movie through text. With Michael Phillip Cash’s remarkable skill at words, the characters seem to come to life and leap onto each page as the chapters awesomely unfold. The action of the warriors is superb as their fight for survival is tested. Brother against brother, fighting for control of the throne, and to see who will be heir. Through the fireblade will V’sair or Pacuto come out on top as the blood from both clans is
spilled? Will Darracia, a city in the clouds, fall because of the lust for power?
Prince V’sair did not believe in the elements, but he will soon learn the truth, and how these elements will effect him and his creed.
Young Prince V’sair, heir to the throne of Darracia, wanted to learn all about the fireblade, not math, but being a prince the teen needed to learn inner strength and how to guide Darracia. It is time for him to grow up and take on some responsibility for his actions. But others of the Darracian race considered V’sair to be a curiosity, without courage. Will V’sair have the strength needed to be their leader?
The battle is on and Pacuto wounds V’sair. Thinking him dead, Pacuto gathers his warriors and heads back to the castle to slay King Drakko and his queen. During the onslaught, Tulani runs to the aid of V’sair. And, with the help of her grandmother, get him to a hiding place. Are they too late to save him from his wounds? Will Pacuto be the new ruler of Darracia? Will their perfect, peaceable world fall into the wrong hands? Will King Drakko’s work go undone? You wont be able to put the book down. The action, mixed with just a hint of mystery, and a little exciting romance thrown in for good measure will keep you reading all the way to the end. Wonderful work! Great read!

Darracia is a planet in turmoil. An ever-widening social gap between its inhabitants is causing severe unrest, and that is quickly fracturing a once peaceful world. Already struggling with his identity, nineteen-year-old Prince V'sair dreams of someday wielding the elusive Fireblade - the key to a warrior's heart. However, deep in his heart, he secretly doubts his worthiness to harness such immense power.

The impetuous young prince will soon be tested beyond the point of endurance. For the coming battle for supremacy will pit brother against brother - and in order to overcome his uncle Staf Nuen's lust for power, Prince V'sair will discover his true destiny. Will the energy of the Elements guide the young prince to that destiny or will Staf Nuen finally conquer Darracia?

I actually began reading this book back in April, but due to my schedule, I had to set the book aside temporarily. I am so delighted that I was eventually able to read this book when I did. I was completely drawn into the plot right from the start. Mr. Cash certainly knows how to create believable, well-developed and true-to-life characters - even if they are aliens from another planet! - and an engrossing and intriguing plot.

I give this book a definite A+! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and look forward to reading the next book in the series - Collision: The Battle For Darracia - sometime very soon.

Let me start by saying I thoroughly enjoyed Schism, the book is written very well and Cash describes the world and characters that inhabit it, in a clear and concise way. I found myself burning through chapter after chapter and easily consumed the entire novel in one sitting. The pace of this story is exhilarating, your thrust into the conflicts and politics of the world within the first couple of chapters and before you reach the halfway point you understand the motivations of Staf and his family, why they would risk so much to overthrow Drakko and Reminda. I love the political elements which are subtle but present. My three favourite things about this book are also the reason why I will purchase the 2nd & 3rd books: 1. I loved the Fire Sword, it's such a magical device and I feel like the first book only scratched the surface of its union between V'sair and his. 2. I really enjoyed the part with Ozre (the element of the land), specifically when he causes Aqin the volcano to erupt. Such a cool part of the book! 3. The action! I love a good battle and this book had many. The author did a fantastic job throwing me into the Frey and I was on the edge of my couch reading the final chapters when V'sair and Staf faced off.
In short, this is an excellent novel and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a polished, well crafted story! It has a bit of everything in it, but manages to stay on course and deliver an exhilarating read! ...now to read book 2!

I've been reading a lot of Cash lately. So, I decided I should read someone else and started Go Set a Watchtower. And then last night, unable to sleep, I opened Schism. And closed it this morning. Now I'm going to say that some things about it reminded me of other fantasy. In my mind's eye, the Darracians began to look a good deal like the characters in Avatar. OK, great fantasies both. But maybe you won't see that at all. Maybe you'll think that some things about this book remind you of Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles. Pretty flattering comparison. Whatever you see is yours to see. That's one of the virtues of reading, isn't it? I will say that this is definitely Michael Phillip Cash at his finest. Great characters and an extremely engaging plot. He has created an entire planetary system, peopled it with finely delineated species, created a religious mythos, and an epic conflict. And engaged me completely. I'm now well into the second book (this is a trilogy) and I am completely engaged and rooting for the young king, V'sair to kick his nasty uncle's butt, (but in the most honorably just of ways, of course), marry Tulani and give birth to children who, being genetically all three warring species, will unite his planet. While this book was sent to me for review by Cash's press office, I would read it if I had to pay for it. High praise from me.

Schism, the first in the Darracia Saga, is an enjoyable, action filled story set in an interesting and diverse world. A mix of sci-fi and fantasy this story quickly captures your imagination with its appealing, unique characters and fast action plot. The range and clarity of the beings in the story is great, from tree dwellers, to flying horses, elemental gods and blue skinned princes; you are quickly intrigued by their variety and captured by their personalities. This battle of good vs evil has themes of racism, jealousy, greed and betrayal running through it, and some romance is thrown in there as well. As is often the case with Cash's books, there are some social messages imbedded in the story, but I will leaves those for you to figure out for yourselves. The narration on the audiobook is excellent, he creates individual voices for the characters and transports you on a journey to the world created by Cash. My only criticism is that some of the story was a bit rushed at the end and I would have liked to have seen V'Sair's romantic relationship be longer in its development. It is well written, entertaining and has enough action and plot twists to keep you turning the pages. I look forward to the next in the series. I received the audiobook & ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Michael Phillip Cash has a remarkable skill with words. I have read several of his books and "Schism: The Battle For Darracia" isn't any different! It is like watching a I-Max 3-D movie, but even better!

With Mr Cash's skills the characters come to life and take you along with them into pages and chapters of awesome adventures. Like the other books in this series I was truly taken aback by the lessons that were "hidden" within between the lines, and how those lessons parallel life today on this planet.

Each one has a different life lesson, this one is about diversity and acceptance. Brother against brother, fighting for control of the throne, and to see who will be heir. While the rest of the people, those who lived above the clouds, underworld, and under water, fought for equality. Plus, within all this struggles was a rebellious struggle - was the elemental gods real? or not?

I have never been disappointed by choosing a Michael Philip Cash book. If you are looking for a really good book to read and have a taste for some fun fantasy. This series is the one you want to choose. If you are looking for a thriller then perhaps choose "Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island"

This is the first in the series for The Battle of Darracia.

In the first book, on Darracia, there is a uprising brewing. You will be introduced to Prince V'sair. He's a young man struggling with his identity.

In this book the author does a great job catching your interest right away and then in his easy to read style, you will be able to stay hooked from the beginning to the end.

I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy Sci fi fantasy books. If you enjoy books that are along the line of Star Trek then this is the series for you.

Thank you to the author, Michael Phillip Cash, for sending me a complimentary copy of this book for my review.

I received this book for the purpose of a fair review.

Overview: The planet Darracia is preparing for a massive upheaval. It’s started when the current king, Drakko, married a Plantan woman Reminda. Now their son, V’sair, is set to be the next king of Darracia. Along with Drakko’s and Reminda’s plans for the next stage of Darracian life, V’sair’s birthright is a problem for some of the more traditional Darracians. Problem enough for a revolution to occur. Will V’sair learn to stand on his own, with the Elements to guide him? Or will he lose not only his life, but the lives of those who mean the most to him?

Likes: V’sair may not understand the Elements like other Darracians do, but he doesn’t deny anyone his or her faith. He is willing to concede that he might not know it all.

Reminda and Drakko have a great plan for the future of their people. I just hope that it works out in the end.

And Zayden doesn’t let the fact that his brother is a half-breed bother him.

Dislikes: Staf is a jerk.

Conclusion: This is a strong beginning to Mr. Cash’s trilogy. I hope the other two books remain as strong.

The planet Darracia has a growing social unrest as the divide between the upper and lower classes are growing. We watch Prince V’sair branch out from his education and grow as an individual and as a leader. Battles with political motives, between family members, and internal struggles of the main characters made this a well-rounded tale that held my interest from beginning to end.

I read this series out of order and read the second book first. Although the second did well as a standalone, going back helped me understand who and what each character was and learn more about their personalities. Everything seemed to fall into place.

Michael Cash captured a strange world and explained it perfectly to this new reader of science fiction. I recommend this book and the series for those who enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, or if you would just like to read something different. This is a good story by a very good storyteller.

I received this book with the understanding that I would read it and give an honest review.
