After winning the talent competition at the Harlem School of the Arts, the Cheetah Girls have cred uptown and down. Dorinda, the most stylish Cheetah of all, thinks they’re finally on their way to music industry millions. But just when things are clicking for the Cheetahs, Dorinda’s home life threatens to come apart at the seams.
Dorinda lives in foster care with almost a dozen other children, and even though Mr. and Mrs. Bosco aren’t their real parents, they’re the only family these kids have ever known. So when a mysterious man comes demanding custody of one of Dorinda’s brothers, she decides to fight back the only way she knows how: Cheetah style!
The penultimate book in The Cheetah Girls series follows Dorinda, and is unfortunately the worst Dorinda POV book.
This book deals with one of Dorinda's foster brothers whose father comes back to take him away, but the girls try to raise funds for Mrs. Bosco to get a lawyer by hosting a fundraising performance show with performances from them as well as other artists they know.
I liked the storyline well enough and the performances at the fundraiser, but there is a huge problem with continuity in this book - Dorinda's age. She told the girls she is 12 in the eleventh book when she was caught out. In this book, it's as if she never told them and ends up telling them again as if it's a big secret still. This is a huge writing error. There are also some judgmental moments in this, even coming from Galleria's mum, that made me mark this book down because it didn't embody the usual Cheetah Girl empowerment.
I also have a reading vlog where I vlogged my experience reading the entire Cheetah Girls book series (as well as some musical numbers from the movie) - https://youtu.be/dxJqXNt34X4
It’s so funny how Dorinda became my favorite character in the books, I did not see that coming. Out of all the girls so far, Dorinda definitely had the most fun storylines and she had her fair share of some character development here and there.
The exciting part was the last chapter where the cheetah girls finally are heading back to the studio! I can not wait to see how this series will end and wrap everything in the next and final book!!!

Bring It On It starts off with Dorinda’s foster sister Chantel wanting one of the prizes she and the Cheetah Girls won in the last book. Then it says Dorinda will be turning 13 soon and she’s worried because the Cheetah Girls still don’t know she’s just 12. There’s some more talk about Nobu and how Dorinda’s foster siblings fight over him and she can’t yet take him out the house and has to give him special medicine (won’t be spending much time on that. I think two books was enough of dog drama).
There’s a strange man in the courtyard (when Dorinda and Twinkie come back from doing the laundry) that turns out to be one of the kid’s fathers (Corky). He says he’s gotten custody of Corky but Mrs. Boscoe just doesn’t know yet. He apologizes and says he just wanted to see where his son lives. Dorinda doesn’t want to tell Mrs. Boscoe for fear it’ll get her blood pressure up. But she knows she has to. Dorinda reaches out to the social worker to check the man’s credibility. Mrs. Bosco gets more and more upset while Twinkie is trying to keep Corky in his room. Mrs. Bosco tries to keep the kids out of it by telling them she’s not feeling good and she needs them to stay in. The neighbor (Mrs. Keisha) tells them he’d finally left. But Corky tho seems to realize something’s up because he’s bouncing off the walls. Later, Dorinda tells the CG in chat.
Dorinda finds out at school that Corky has been given back to his father. Do breaks down. Galleria tells her if there’s anything she learned from Mrs. Brubaker it’s that she should fight. She suggests that Mrs.Boscoe get a lawyer. But Do says she can’t afford one. So, Galleria tells Mrs. Doretha. Her mom tells her not to interfere but her mom seems to think she should also get legal care and hire a lawyer. Dorinda knows this will be her worse birthday.
While out shopping, the CG runs into two new girls who are visiting. It’s finally revealed to her friends that Dorinda will be turning 13. Galleria decides to have a fundraiser to celebrate Do’s birthday and to help them raise the money for a lawyer to get custody of Corky. As the benefit comes together, Mrs. Doretha informs that the head of A and R at Def Duck will be in town and has bought 10 tickets. Mrs. Dorthea tries to invite Mouse Almighty but his secretary says he won’t be able to make it. He’ll be in the studio working with Kahlua. But they have a celebrity to be the Mistress of Ceremonies. Some other students perform. Then the Cheetah Girls take the stage. By this time the Def Duck execs have arrived.
Angie and Aqua suggest they invite the girls they meet who are also singers to perform at the benefit. Later, Do takes Chantel to Barns and Nobles and gets her some magazines and a book (that she decides to get for Corky). She also gets some fashion books for herself. The CG’s gave her the book gift card for her birthday). Franco finds a really nice attorney for MRs. Boscoe who she’ll meet with. The benefit goes great! To the CG’s surprise, Derek and Mack are good! The two girls (Destinee and her friend) do a Karma’s Child song. Drinka does her old hit. Juanita does a belly dance. The last song they sing is the song Galleria wrote about Dorinda’s family “Dorinda’s Family Groove”. A cake is brought out and Dorinda makes two wishes. One is for the Cheetah Girls to get a record deal and the other is for Corky not to be taken away.
While Chanel and Do take their brothers and sisters to a special frog exhibit, Bubbles calls them and tells them Def Duck put pressure on Mouse Almighty and he’s called them back in to work on the demo. He also apologizes for not being able to come to the demo.
My Thoughts: This one was odd to me because I’m not sure why Dorinda and Mrs. Boscoe thought they had a right to Corky. Mrs.Boscoe seems to forget that these aren’t her kids. It’s admirable that she takes in these kids, but she has to know that if their parents come back .. It didn’t give us all that much about Corky’s background. Gaye was abandoned. I don’t think it said Corky was abandoned. It said his fathr didn’t reach out. I couldn’t really be mad at the father because I didn’t know what his situation was. He might just have fallen on hard times and lost had his son taken by an agency. If he wanted his son back, I REALLY don’t think they should have fought him on it. Particularly if he could provide for him. And let’s face it as nice as the Boscoes are (and as good of hearts as they have) I really don’t see how they’ve gotten away with having all those kids. Their apartment does NOT have adequate space and while they’re giving them the basics, Dorinda can’t pick an outfit that doesn’t have HOLES in them. I don’t even understand how the foster agency is letting Mrs Boscoe have all these kids in the first place. I’m glad this last book will be about them ACTUALLY recording a demo. Somewhere down the line I felt like this series strayed and got so distracted with other stuff it forgot it was supposed to be about a SINGING GROUP trying to RECORD AN ALBUm, it its attempt to show that sometimes getting a deal doesn’t come overnight and there might be a LONG waiting period.
