Author Jeff D. Jacques brings us an interesting adventure for Commander Sonya Gomez and the crew of the U.S.S. da Vinci. A borg cube has been found on what was thought to be a lifeless planet by the U.S.S. Hood. Starfleet calls in the Corps of Engineers to shut down the cubes power supply so another Borg cube dose not come across it. Commander Gomez and her team head down to the planet and blast their way through the cube's walls only to find out as they track where the energy was going to an underground civilization. Making first contact Gomez and her team come up with a way to change the power signature of the cube so the Borg won't be able to detect it. While everything is going on Gomez is going through a personal crisis of her own and she feels like her life is ending. This mission gives her something to focus on making sure that even though she isn't having a good time now she will return to duty ready for the next adventure and hopefully her heart will be back in it with her too. I highly recommend this novella to all Star Trek and Science fiction fans.
This is one of the good ones. It wraps up a little to fast, but what a great set of images, ideas and fun. Lots going on with simple ideas and complex details. Yea!
