Kujou and Yanagi might stay as they are forever, but the club’s newest addition, Momoka, has designs on Yanagi. As usual, this doesn’t amount to much, but it might just open Kujou’s eyes a smidgen wider than before.
Neither especially compelling (although this volume is a bit better than usual for the series), but not particularly awful either, this is an enjoyable bit of low-key fluff that doesn’t require heavy involvement on the part of the reader.
The reason this volume hits a little better is because, after her glacial acknowledgment of her possible feelings toward Yanagi, Kujou starts to feel such wild emotions as jealousy and longing. It’s not moving much faster, but moving at all is practically a step forward.
Not to mention she starts to realize that despite all the years they’ve been inseparable and he’s learned her inside and out, she hasn’t learned a thing about him. There’s a regret there that I think speaks more to her changing than anything else and that’s a welcome development.
And all the sparkling and hopeless behaviour is satisfying enough for a lazy read. Souma continues to just randomly tsundere at everything and I really got a laugh out of his description of Yanagi when they were at the latter’s apartment. This series arguably doesn’t play it silly enough.
Momoka is pretty much in the same boat as Souma, except she won’t accept what’s obvious to everybody as far as the bond between our leads goes. Does this make her annoying? Why, yes, it does, and they manage to toss in the ‘overweight and now not’ trope that adds really little except some fat-shaming from a jerk in her past.
Honestly, she mostly just makes Souma look good, since he knows that as much as he tries he’ll never manage to catch Kujou’s eye. I won’t be shocked if he and Momoka wind up in some sort of loser’s club by the end of things.
Yanagi continues to be himself, although he is more enjoying Kujou’s company than desperate for her every attention (though some of that crops up), which makes for a breezier volume. Yeah, he’s trying, but he isn’t annoying about it.
There’s something about this at its deepest core that I like and yet I still think it is decidedly average most of the time. Possibly it’s the lingering sentiment I have from the first volume, but it might just be the moments between Kujou and Yanagi, which tend to be terrifically satisfying. Like many a series before it, when it gets out of its own way, it gets infinitely better.
3.5 stars - sometimes the good bits in this series can feel like panning for gold in a river; you have to churn up a lot of mud, but the rewards are ample enough to make it worth the effort.
I might have been having a super bad headache when reading this volume, but this volume made me fall back in love with the series!
I really enjoyed the previous volume, but I think because I wasn't feeling well, I was just able to appreciate this story for what it is: A lot of fun!
While it might require some "thinking" about what in the world is going on at the LACK of Kujou and Yanagi being together just yet (LOL), the story itself is a fun and relaxing one. The interloper is indeed trying to stir things up, but I was already ready for her and feel a little bad that she is trying so hard when Kujou is just being herself and has Yanagi's heart without even realizing it...
On the flip side, it's because of her antics that Kujou realizes that her side is by Yanagi, and that is forever where she wants to be. Granted, she doesn't realize romantically that is what she wants, but I too, was proud of her when she had some "girl talk" with Shiori. It definitely goes to show things are moving and that here very soon Kujou is going to look at Yanagi even MORE differently than she already has been!
The amusement park trip was fun because even though Souma has feelings for Kujou, it's obvious that he does care and worry for her, which makes some funny moments occur. (Speaking of, he was a blast in this volume even though it's usually at his expense that I'm having fun! LOL! Sorry Souma…) I liked the Senpai and how things didn't go as planned at the haunted house as well as the competitive moment between our leads at the arcade! Some things never change! LOL!
Overall, super enjoyed this volume and can't wait for the next one!
I really feel that Kojou if realizing her feelings, and the whole thing might me moving a bit slow, but I still love it anyways. The whole thing with Souma and Yanagi makes me feel bad for all three. I feel that it's good that Souma since he really needs to stop backing down. It's also great that Yanagi and Souma talked, and how insecure on what position they are with Kujou is really adorable! With time, these two could become great friends, and I'm loving the character development.
“ you two live in completely different worlds, you don’t match eachother” “ It may look like that, but for the past 10 years I’m the one whose been desperately trying to catch up to her “ YANAGI THE MAN YOU ARE
HONESTLY I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH I CAN'T-- Momoka is a great addition, she really adds to the overall plot. Not to mention, some of the lines in this volume were too cute!! Reading this book was heart-fluttering and fluffy as always. This series is a happy pill, for real. I can't express it enough- you've gotta give Last Game a try!
(This book contains mild language. I would give it an age rating of 13+)
Okay, so things are finally picking up! They’re starting to show more of the emotional complexity between the characters, and I’m definitely here for it. Both of them are still so cute, and now—surprise—a new character’s been added into the mix! Sure, it’s kind of a cliché, but honestly? It’s the good kind. The kind you don’t mind falling for all over again. I’m more invested now, and I can’t wait to see how the dynamic shifts.
It is a very heart warming manga. The story is about Yanagi who is always first in everything plus he is a Rick and handsome brat. But suddenly a girl named Kujou is transferred to his primary school and turns out she is first in everything. So to defeat her and come first he start persuing her and they have a last game.
Me lo paso muy bien con este manga. Son todos tan tontorrones que me divierte un montón y los encuentro muy monos. Empecé a leerlo porque me apetecía leer algo pasteloso, pero no lo es para nada. Es eso: mono y divertido.
Kujou’s slowly understanding her feelings… but idk how Yanagi just waits around. I would’ve already told her if I was him… Just shout it from the rooftops, boy LOL
