This lavishly illustrated book offers an intriguing insight into the religious and burial practices of the ancient Egyptians and the lives that they led.
The temples and tombs of Ancient Egypt are catalogued extensively in this illustrated book. Each structure has a background blurb about it’s discovery or importance in history, subsections covering the novel or interesting aspects and a papyrus full of photographs.
It is obvious that the book was thoroughly researched however the catalogue style made it feel same-same. After a while, it was forgetful as to how one temple differed from the next. It could be a good reference tool for aspiring Egyptologists, but you’d have to really, really love it to call it a fun read.
To think that the last time I have picked the book was back in September and now its December 14..Yikes!
The only reason I'm giving this book 2 stars is solely for my love of Ancient Egypt and my love for Egyptian Mythology.
But my god was this book a pain to get through. Even though this book is less than 300 pages, the writing style or the explanation was not for me. I felt it was dragging and bland to be honest. And maybe the reason for not liking the book or getting into it was that I'm used to reading book about Ancient Egypt in Arabic, who knows.
Also, I have tried to pick this book up like twice and my first time was 5 years ago!!! So maybe be that one way to tell that this book or the writing is not for me.
I am pretty disappointed in this as a first book of the year and I hope the rest don't follow the same trend. I love nonfiction, but it's hard to love one that constantly contradicts itself and has very easily identifiable falsities. There is no biography or anything to fact-check the rest either.
Well written and easy to read this book covers all the main sites and details the history behind each site and the symbolism of the art work, statues etc.
