“You have such a pretty face, If only you would lose some weight.” Tory has heard that all of her life. In her solitary life she eats alone and daydreams about having a handsome boyfriend who could accept all of her. Daily she finds herself running to catch her bus and knowing that she is the laughing stock of the other commuters. And then one day she literally finds herself ‘falling’ into the lap of one of the commuters; an exotically handsome white man. Tory finds that she is unable to stop thinking about him and daydreaming about the life he must live. But Mr. Gorgeous must be either married or gay because she sees him dismissing the attention of gorgeous women left and right. Never in a million years would she ever guess that hers was the only attention he was interested in… In this multicultural romance, Pepper Pace weaves a story that takes her readers through the ups and downs of personal insecurities, cultural differences, and of course a lesson to be learned; that love is totally and completely blind.
Pepper Pace is the pen name used by the author. Born and raised in Cincinnati, she has always enjoyed creativity. At a very young age, Pepper had a gift for art and would spend most of her spare time drawing images that she later began adding stories behind. Soon writing became more important than the illustrations and though she still loved art, it took a back seat to her real love.
Pepper wrote her first novel when she was 12 years old and had written 2 more by the age of 18. Too shy to share her work with anyone, Pepper stock piled her many stories into notebooks until she came upon Literotica.com and was compelled to share her craft.
Pepper became instantly popular and won several awards each year in which she submitted a story to the site. After receiving popular feedback, she grew in confidence and created a popular blog entitled Writing Feedback where she encourages her readers to interact with her on topics concerning, music, writing, art and pop culture, and can be contacted at her blog: pepperpacefeedback.blogspot.com/
Pepper lives in Cincinnati where many of her characters also reside.
So...interracial romance lovers should read this book. An overweight African American heroine (Tory) and blind Portuguese hero (Lee) find love in this story. The first third of this book it was looking like a solid 5 STAR read for me then the middle of the book happened. Then...it went to a 4 STAR read.
Then the last third of this story...reality seemed to be suspended which leads me to rating it 3 STARS.
Now come a little closer and let me plead my case and you let me know if I'm being a little picky or not.
But if you broke both of your arms...would you be able to brush your teeth two weeks out of the hospital? While wearing your casts.
Or pick up a nearly 300 lb. woman (# TEAM BIG GIRLS!) and carry her, while wearing your casts, to screw her? (HOT SCENE BTW)
Then the next day have you difficulty cutting your meat?
Do you see my issue? Is it just me?
*sigh* it's the little things that stick in my craw.
But if you love romances stories where the characters quickly fall in love and stay in love, you will really enjoy this story. The epilogue was cute. It's not a bad story at all, sweet but not super mushy. I will be reading more of Ms. Pace's work.
I truly, truly love this book. The flow of it, the colors, the cultures, the language. The intimacy between lovers & close family. Just the love, the passion & people here, it all flows organically. It was all done beautifully.
There is a female here, Rosalind. We all know a female like this. Whether it's through our own personal experiences or through those who are close to us. I hate this woman with a passion, you hear me? She was definitely written well & served her purpose well. Cos every time I even saw her name, I would see red. LOL But I was more than pleased with the out come of how she was dealt with.
Now, Lee & Tory, love these two together. Perfect couple, perfect chemistry, and a lot of heart & passion here. I loved watching things unfold between them. How they grew as individuals while growing & falling in love with one another. I just felt good. Happy. Being in the presence of these two. I can't describe it any other way.
And Lee?... He is the HOTTEST, most passionate sincere guy, I've ever read about. I'm not lying. My "girly bits" were alternating from constant faucet drip, to full on faucet stream the entire time I read this book.
So yes, Ms. Pace has done it again with another wonderfully written story. I would HIGHLY recommend this read.
This story wasn't bad at all, it was rather sweet actually. It is the story of Tory and Lee. Tory is an overweight woman who hates her job but can't figure out what to do to improve herself, and who has always been told she has a pretty face, but she needs to lose weight. Lee is a 33 year old blind man who's family is at the same time loving as smothering. The two 'meet' on the bus when Tory finds her self being propelled into Lee's lap after the bus driver takes off while she's still standing. Soon after, Tory finds herself at a Portuguese restaurant and spots Lee at the bar eating. She still isn't aware that he's blind because he was extremely confident and carried himself like you'd expect any sighted man to, but she believes he never pays her attention because of her size. Well, their next meeting on the bus Lee speaks to Tory and flirtation ensues and they agree to meet later. This was a sweet little story about two folks that each had their own insecurities, and how they made each other better and loved each other more than either expected possible. Of course there was drama, an ex girlfriend that was ALWAYS around, a huge family on Lee's side, an accident, lies by omission, etc. You can almost forget that this was an interracial story, Tory being black and Lee being Portuguese except that there was lots of mention of their traditional food and the language they spoke. I have to say the little grammatical/spelling errors began to work my damned nerves. Sometimes Tory's name was Troy, sometimes Francie's name was Francine, Macey was Macy, it was crazy. I think for future editions or something the author will surely want to make sure those are taken care of. Hell there was a character name there that I had no idea where it came from!!!! Then after LOL! Still a worthy read and one I enjoyed all the same.
Unrealistic. I love the interracial romance take but that’s it. The plot was weak and the connection was nonexistent. No romance building whatsoever. In summary, this is what happened: “ I love you” was said day two of knowing each other’s names, 3 months later Lee proposed! Old ex finally admits she’s in love with Lee creating tension between Lee and Tory. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

"The most difficult thing about being in love with a blind man is remembering that his being blind is the least of it all. Being in love with a man that had his own individual thoughts, feelings and reactions was just as much of a consideration."
Can a blind man be sexy? Of course! Claro que sim!
Loved this one. Wish it had been longer. Spent the last 30% crying all types of tears.
I enjoy it when books are flavored with a language other than English. The translation feature of my kindle app got a lot of work.
The medical knowledge/attention to detail in this one was a bit flimsy though. At one point I'm certain he was in a dress shirt but then ends up in a t-shirt later on in the night. Heroine claimed to have friends but they never got featured in the book, the hero's family dominated. etc. etc. but this is an Indy-pub and I bawled my eyes out so it stays at 5 stars. The steam factor alone would have me revisit.
They Love is Blind and it truly is. Tory and Lee feel deeply and passionately in love, it was true love because what everyone else thought did not matter. Its funny how we see ourselves versus how other people see us. Lee that Tory was the sexiest woman in the world with his love he made her fell just that. Tory saw Lee as the most Confident man who could have any woman he wanted, but he felt she could have some one better even though to here there was no man better for her than him. I am a big fan of Pepper Pace because when I read her books I read a romantic story with wonderful characters . I never see the handicaps the character has after the initial description of their handicap. I still shake my head because I passed over her books thinking they would be more tragic. I was so wrong because this is romance written at is best. True love over comes all what person in the world would not want that, Lee takes care of his woman both in and out of bed I could read about that all day .
I really liked this book for a few reasons. First off, Pace manages to highlight the fact that a man with physical "disability" is no less a man. She also implemented that talent she seems to have with making conflict play out true to life without sacrificing romance. I love that when the conflict hit, the characters remained true to who she developed them to be. Sure we have a bit of assery from the hero but it wasnt outrageous where-the-hell-did-that-come-from assery. And it was relatable to the circumstances. If this man HADN'T been an ass under these conditions, it would have seemed ridiculous. Too often in contemporary romance you get some type of 360 personality change just to give the couple the hurdle or angst needed to complete all phases of the story. Not so here. I never really wanted to hit either of these two and for me? Impressive writing. lol!
As my first reading by Pepper Pace, I think it is a nice one. I really liked the story. And the main characters are adorable I was grinning like idiot reading their first encounters, because they are just too cute.
As individuals, I really liked them too; Tory because she can stand up for herself, despite her insecurity with her body while Lee because he's so independent I was wondering if it is possible in his case. Supporting characters are good too. They are loud, but the best thing is I can feel their loudness hence it suits the story well.
I also liked how the author put Portuguese here and there, along with Portuguese food, it wasn't hard to believe that Lee and his family are Portuguese.
While I enjoyed this Tory and Lee's story, I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of their insta-love. Although I sometimes make an exception for insta-love in the book I read, this one wasn't the one I can ignore. I need to know Tory and Lee first, but they don't give me time because suddenly they are saying that they are in love with each other, only after two meeting. I know that it wasn't that an insta-love comparing to other insta-love I've read before, but in this case I want them to take their time to know each other so that it will be believable to me.
It's good the more they are together I could see that they are in love and I can surely see their chemistry. Unfortunately their love isn't the only one that felt too fast. Mostly everything feels too fast to me. It felt mostly in surface I kinda wished the author can dig deeper into their story than what already is.
I have to give a 4.5 stars. The title itself was well put. Love is definitely blind, no matter if you have any handicap but still find that special person in your life that takes your hear. Love Love the leading Characters, Tory and Lea. How they met in the bus, See ladies and myself, you can meet you man even in the Iron Pimp-Bus that is. How sweet the way Lee teach her his language, his love in music and his food. His Sisters, his brothers and his wives truly loved her unconditionally. Now Let's talk about Roz, Tory was to good to hold back, from the moment, she step in my apartment, I would have tore a piece of her ASS the way she comment of the apartment. But I am happy that at end Tory-(She was my Shero) Finally Lee stand up. Even though he was blind he was a confident man. Oh the accident had me in tears, how they got hurt, it wasn't Tory's fault at all. What she went through after her rape, she was blessed. Beautiful Love Story, from the beginning to the end. I applaud you Ms. Pace. Does not matter, if you are a Big Volunptuous Woman, or a skinny woman, there are man out there that like us Big and Beautiful. So Ladies Stand up and be proud and love yourself. That is what really Ms. Pace is saying, Love yourself.
The most difficult thing about being in love with a blind man is remembering that his being blind is the least of it all. Being in love with a person with their own individual thoughts, feelings and reactions was just as important of a consideration.
Wow. I never expected that the title would actually represent the hero in this book. I was equally shocked as Tory when finding out that Lee's visually impaired. Hell, I never saw it coming. This was totally sweet love story. The author was not focused on blind man fell in love with overweight black woman. No. You'd dig deeper if you read this one and you'd enjoy it. And what made this complete? That you still need to struggle even when you're together with the person you loved. There would be another person who intentionally wanted to rip your relationship apart, there would be an accident that would tear yourself apart, and there would be situation when you doubt that you're not good enough, that love itself would not be enough. Beautifully written!
I wanted to enjoy this story because, as usual, Pepper Pace paired two unique, but realistic, individuals together who were relatable. Unfortunately, this story jumped shark for me in a couple of areas and I did not enjoy it was much as I've enjoyed other P.P. stories. Tory and Lee fell in love WAY too quickly. Declaring their love for each other on their first official date, only the second time they hung out, bothered me and I found it hard to invest after that. I understand infatuation but not love over night. The Rosalind storyline felt contrived. Lee would have asked his family to exclude her after witnessing her disrespectful encounter with Tory the first time. It would not have taken multiple times to take care of this if he truly loved and respected Tory. What happened to Tory's life? Did she have no friends at all? Why didn't she introduce Lee to her parents earlier? Why was she always seeking to fit into Lee's family without any regard for her own? It was a lot of little things like this that turned me off. Oh well, guess I can't love them all.
And that's how love should be. What would we do if we met the perfect person for us spiritually. Our personalities just click. But there was a major problem that may stand in the way. Would we throw caution to the wind like Lee and Tory and grab for the brass ring and hold on for all it's worth and let love envelope us or would we succumb to the esthetics of society's expectations for the norm? I would like to think I'm openminded to grab the brass ring.
I loved Tory and Lee's love. They were each other's yin and yang. They gave each other the confidence to live life fully. Tory made Lee feel like he was the best man in the world despite his handicap and Lee loved Tory just the way she was and made her feel so thoroughly loved despite her weight and all of her negative mind talk.
Pepper Pace wrote a very sweet enjoyable book about two people with personal handicaps, coming together and finding the love of their lives in which they can finally have an HEA with. This was something neither one thought they could have.
Okay, so I am new at rating these kinds of books. I mostly deal with paranormal worlds. That being said. **** I did not like this as much as I thought I would. There was no real drama and I did not get to know the characters depth, struggles or the story point. Lee althought I know blindness was an interesting point but we learned nothing about it. I did like the concept it presented but I needed a little more to the story to keep me interested.
I loved this story about Lee and Tory. I loved how strong they both were, and Lee’s family were very strong and close nit family which was very nice. That Roz was something else. I love all of Pepper’s books that I have read so far. Great job Pepper. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoy reading a great romantic story. I think you will enjoy reading this story. Thank you.
I actually really enjoyed this book. I was a little hesitant because I was afraid of cheesiness - and there was some - but the story was still believable. Tory and Lee were such a cute couple. I loved it! Chances of re-read are high!
I enjoyed this book just as I have most of Pepper's other books. She takes a character that may be seen as flawed and finds that one perfect person for them. Always sweet. Good read.
This book was so awesome, I'm reading it again. Love, love, loved the characters. Pepper Pace's stories are awesome! Sexy, funny, and inspiring they are feel good novels and just great reads.
Pepper Pace never disappoints! This was a lovely story with insecurities of both of the main characters attempting to overshadow their love. Thank you for another great read, Ms. Pace!
3.5*. Sweet and charming romance, however, some actions in the last third of the book stretched the credibility( this is a contemporary , not paranormal romance) and for me pushed the rating down.
Pepper pace has been in the game for me I don't know who I could choose in between these two beautiful men Christopher the sweet sexy country Marine man or the sexy confidence surefire blind Portuguese lover?wait a minute hold on scuse me you guys let me not talk about Christopher in this as that's a different book all together by pepper pace but I have found another book of man I love just as much as I love Christopher and beef I love the fact that he loved her so much in the way that he spoke was so romantic it had me reacting as though I was Tori herself and I felt so bad for her this is probably one of the best written books of hers so far that I've read (I'm on a binge read of her work) it had a storyline and had a romantic scene and had very very sexy dialogue from Leandro.the way she wrote in Glee was beautiful I like that he had confidence in himself and never once considered his blindness a problem as he has been born blind the fact that he navigated the world as though he can see more than any other person is what really makes him the beautiful person and the fact that threw that ability he made Tori love herself and more confident in herself as well as the family that nourished him itreminds me of Christopher from beast having that well beautiful family relationship helped grow a beautiful man.why the hell did these men not really exist it hurts my soul knowing that they don't exist!!!! At the very least I can be very happy for the women who are chosen by them especially since they represent us big black women!
although I feel the book should be refined as I saw a lot of grammar errors I still did not mind as they were errors that only someone who re-read certain parts with notice the fact that she seemed very knowledgeable when she wrote this makes the book more enjoyable and it wasn't just a quick fanfic kind of writing I can't wait to read more of her beautiful books and of course and I'm pretty sure every female reading this book their favorite scene is going to be when he explains what made him "notice" her (such a Sexy scence) Lee was sensual with his words that mimiced the passion in Latin men. My heart skipped a beat so many times! The dialoguebetween the two characters with beautiful and it actually show them developing between every page they learnt so much about each other although as I stated it still wasn't refined I felt like the book could have been longer if they start at the beginning of the book a little bit slower in their relationship.
I took a chance on another Pepper Pace book (on the behest of that same Pepper Pace fan). After reading Crash, I wasn't as leery. I'm glad I took the chance. I enjoyed this more than Crash. The characters were lively, the circumstances interesting and I especially loved the cultural elements she injected into the story.
Where the weak points were, again, Pace's inclination to insert instalove scenarios into her books irks me to no end. Would it hurt to draw out the romance a bit? This book is a major instalove offender. The main characters are proclaiming infatuation during the first date, love and being in love five minutes after the first date (which also happens to be after the first sexual encounter). I'm kind of over that. Slow burn it, please! If it wasn't for that sticking point, this book would get a higher rating from me. Any additional quibbles are so minor, they're not worth mentioning in this review.
My rating: A "we could call it love at first sight, but..." 3.9
Tory had a crush on the guy who travels in the same bus as her when she goes for work. But he never notices anyone. He balantly rejects people. She thought she had no chance. However one day she realises that the reason he acts that way is that he is blind.
So when one day surprisingly fate starts their love story she has no idea how this will end. Add a she villain like Rosalind, who tries to break them apart at every turn and the overbearing family of Lee and you'll get a tale like no other.
When disaster strikes, it seems not only his family has become unsupportive of their relation but they have also become distant. Will they be able to overcome this hurdle and become stronger in their bonding or will they fall apart? Just like a house of cards. ... I liked Tory and Lee and appreciated the love is blind title connecting to Lee. The adjustments Lee made for the lack of sight as well as what he's able to do despite it was interesting.
I thought the book was boring for the most part, the dialogue was stilted and unnatural, issues came up and were resolved sentences later, the characters didn't really sound like native Portuguese speaking people, and Tory and Lee went to the I love yous, engaged, and planning a life together very quickly. Good friend Rosalind waiting in the wings for Lee was more an eye roller than anything.
Would have earned 5 stars but some things were unrealistic
Like: How was he lifting Tory with casts on both arms? The end was just a little rushed. I wanted the Epilogue like her book 'Beast' had. I still very much enjoyed this book. There were a few typos and all those things Lee could do while having casts on both arms. The erotica was amazing!
This couple is the epitome of let love win. They over came such obstacles that would demolish a weaker couple. Tory and Lee had me cheering for them from page one. A delightful read. Ms Pace knows how to spin a story that has you wrapped up until the last word.
