Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

2025 reread : I'm falling behind on reviews, I've read this one a few days ago.
I like the end of this volume a lot. I don't care much about the Davy Back Fight beyond the jokes, but the visit of the admiral is really important. He mentions Luffy's grandpa, which is important. But the most important thing is the warning he gives about Robin and the effect it will have on the next arc.
And what a next arc it is. We finally reached Water Seven and the worldbuilding of that island is just genius. And the mini loch ness monsters used as transportation are such a brilliant idea.
The end of this volume always makes me sad, I know the anouncement is coming, yet it still breaks my heart.

We're at Water Seven! I though I could be strong and start crying only in the next one. But nope. I totally teared up at the end. The tone is set I guess

Ah, now this is a breath of fresh air. Awesome all around.

My man Aokiji is introduced here as well. Can't go wrong there. He has one of the best introductions in the series. simple, but memorable.

Starting from Volume 34 One Piece becomes the greatest piece of fictional storytelling that I have ever seen (especially up to Volume 60). Not just in the medium of comics. Literally, the greatest story ever told in human history, among those that I have witnessed, of course.
This is the Odyssey of our time. Meaning that three thousands years from now mankind will look at this epic adventure to understand how we laughed, dreamed, healed, hoped and searched for a meaning to the word 'freedom'.
Do yourself a favour and check this story. The series is currently 1000+ chapters long and still unfinished. That's almost 20000 pages of manga. And those pages become more and more dense as the story advances and Eiichiro Oda tries to tie all the plot points that he has recklessly seeded over 24 years. (The story will probably be around 1300+ chapters by its end, in five to ten years from now.) That's scary, I know. However, once you'll get sucked into its magic you will think that it is still too short. You don't have to read all of it. There are different ways to experience the story. You can watch it as an anime. There are even movies summing up the early sagas, if you want a faster introduction to the world and then get into the more juicy stuff. You can mix parts of anime and parts of manga. You can skip the fights, if that shonen component does not appeal to you. Damn, you can even skip entire sagas, although I suggest that you make sure to read or watch everything from the Water Seven saga on, which starts with this volume. Or, like so many of us, you can just read it over decades and decades, making it one of the things that help you keeping alive. Just check it, one way or another, before you die.

(Let me be clear: volumes 1 to 33 are also great, funny and full of epic moments. Plus, they obviously contain the backbone of the seven main characters's story arcs. But the magic starts from this volume 34, honestly, even art wise.)

One Piece, Vol. 34 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next eleven chapters (317–327) of the on-going manga series.

This tankōbon concludes the Long Ring Long Land Arc and begins the next one. Monkey D. Luffy wins the Davy Back Fight. Uninterested in any member of Foxy's crew, but not wishing to take their honor, Luffy replaces Foxy's flag with a new and poorly drawn one. Foxy sets sail swearing revenge.

Meanwhile, the Marine Admiral Aokiji introduces himself to the Straw Hats. Recognizing the threat they might pose to the Marines, before leaving, Aokiji encases Robin, with whom he has some history, and Luffy in ice. After they recover, the Straw Hats continue to the city of Water Seven in search of someone who can repair their ship, the Going Merry.

They explore the city, have the loot they took from Skypiea appraised, and have Galley-La, a team of shipwrights, look at their ship. Though willing to pay any price to repair the Merry, the damage it sustained during their adventures is too great to be fixed.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well. The Straw Hat Pirates wins the Davy Back Fight against Foxy the Silver Fox and his crew. In search of a shipwright to join the crew and fix their ship, they head to Water 7 – a thriving metropolis.

All in all, One Piece, Vol. 34 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

LONG RING LONG LAND ARC - FINAL PART
1. admiral aokiji introduced; very powerful, gotta have a lookout for guy. i trust him approx. 0%

WATER 7 ARC - PART 1
1. train! on water?? how does it move? how does it work? i need to know (steam-powered paddles are so cooool)

2. sanji in a dark shirt will be my death

3. the city of water is gorgeous!! but i would be scared because it'd drown me...but also the mode of transportation is quite clever and cool!!

4. i'm in love with the galley-la company: you've got such different and cool characters that have their own quirk, and i really like the idea of them not backing down from authorities or pirates, and they're honest to their work.

5. i'd trust zoro to guard me and my own with my LIFE

6. robin is MOTHER (i love how insanely kind she is, and also doesn't make fun or laugh at people, and gives them proper comments, AND ALSO TAKES CARE OF CHOPPERRRR)

7. i refuse to believe that the merry go won't sail again.

Good riddance Long Ring Long Land! What a waste of time: you could literally skip the last volume and miss nothing pertinent to the overall story.

The title of this volume is about as uninspired and boring as "Long Ring Long Land." Oda must have been going through it. Maybe he was saving all his brain power for Water Seven and the shipbuilder's guild characters.

This is way more promising. Give Oda some quirky characters and weird-ass locations and watch him play. It's one of the best things about One Piece!

The Straw Hats get to Water Seven! I loved the design of this city and the shipwrights they met. I can’t wait to see what the deal with Robin is and it seems that Usopp found himself in some trouble! Really enjoyed the set-up for this arc and I think it could be one of the best ones yet!

Not a lot of people liked the Davy Back Fight arc, but we really needed the break - bit of winding down after an epic arc and right before the next one. Comedy and jokes, with lower stakes and less backstory to keep track of. Some more time for Nico Robin to establish herself as a core crew member, before things go bad for her specifically.

And now the break is over, and the new arc is well established from the start. So much going on. So many things foreshadowed. Not to mention the one last tense scene in between, with a Marine Admiral showing up to put the main characters back in their place - to set up not just Robin's arc, but also, a bit more subtly, Usopp's.

Then a particularly foreboding end-note. Not every cliffhanger is full of immediate deadly peril.

Alright, this is much better than the previous one, so right back on the awesome track. After the davy back fight that I loathed, it ended surprisingly touching and heart-warming with Luffy's confession towards his nakama. And they headed towards Water 7, another epic and great saga and something's huge and tragic is creeping in now! ahhh, and I like Iceburg, he's funny and did you know that he was modeled after George Clooney, ahah, fun fact there! So, this volume ends with a sad news, and it was quite good, I'm looking forward of the next volume, 3.5 stars, lots of world-building and some 'easter eggs' too....

Bueno, el comienzo de otra trama. No han pasado tantas cosas pero no ha estado mal en general y los dibujos de la ciudad han molado (le bajo 1 estrella por los comentarios machistas)

Luffy finally defeats the foxy pirate boss and well he claims victory and they escape from the fiirst island in the ring island and then they are met by the Marine HQ Admiral Aokiji and learn about the other 2 marine cap and their boss and like then we have a fight between Luffy and Aokiji and its deadly but fun. They are after Robin and her mystery continues. Then they go to Water seven, the city of water and they have the best carpenters and they meet up with the Mayor, "ICEBERG" who also happens to be the boss of the carpenters. Kaku another carpenter is the one we meet and then Paulie and all. Its fun and he has some wild encounters especially with the money, which was hilarious to read but then we have Luffy come face to face with the fact that his Ship cannot be repaired. Also some big threat from Franky Family maybe coming. This arc started well and sets up a lot of things and is like a set up for big things to come and the art and colors here are gorgeous to gaze at!

The good:
-The plot improved, even though I knew the outcome of the Davy back fight.
-Nico Robin's mystery got more interesting.
-The new characters from the shipyard.
-The outcome of the going merry.

The bad:
-This is an introduction for the next chapter.
-Nothing really happened in this issue, only a set of stage for the next long arc.

3.5✨

The completion of the short storyline with the foxy pirates, the introduction of a new admiral and the start of the Water Seven arc.

Glad the foxy pirates story was short and it's over with. The casual racism in the previous volume was rife.

Admiral Aokije seems very powerful and I'm interested to see more from him.

Water Seven arc is intriguing me so far
