God Is Searching for People to BlessJim Cymbala believes that God plays "favorites"--that certain people experience his blessings more abundantly than others. Have these people learned a formula or a simple technique that will guarantee his blessing? Or is there something more profound at work in their lives? In The Life God Blesses, Jim Cymbala points out that God is constantly searching for people to bless. He’s not looking for men and women with special talents or unusual intelligence or great strength but for those who possess a certain kind of heart. Find out how to have a heart that God cannot resist and you will become a channel of his blessing for your family, your church, and your world.
Jim Cymbala has been the pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle for more than twenty-five years. The author of the best-selling titles Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire; Fresh Faith; and Fresh Power, he lives in New York City with his wife, Carol Cymbala, who directs the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
Great encouragement to live a life of praying, trusting and waiting on God. It was perfect timing for me. I needed this specific encouragement now even though this book is over twenty years old and I didn’t know it existed until recently.
It’s a short, easy and effective read. Jim’s practical testimonies are always impactful. I highly recommend!
Excellent book! Jim Cymbala’s books always bring me to tears, convict me and cause me to have deep reflections into my own life. This was no exception. I loved it!
Jim Cymbala's books are always refreshing and inspiring. In this one, he weaves together stories of Bible characters (both those who walked with God and those who did not) and stories from his own life and ministry, as well as from the lives of some who attend the Brooklyn Tabernacle, to underscore a call that we would seek God with our whole hearts and trust Him with our whole lives. It is a very good and simple read with a powerful message.
Encouraging because as usual Cymbala uses examples from his own life to back up the points he makes, so you know this is not mere theory. Convicting because I came to the realization that there is much more I should be trusting God for. The content is excellent, but I only gave four stars because there were several typos scattered throughout the book. Still highly recommended!!
As always, Jim’s work is inspired and deeply convicting. I highly recommend any and all of his books!
Favorite Quote: “The Lord really does dwell with certain people in a special way. He is there because of the resting place provided for Him by their humble hearts. It is a kind of divine favoritism verified by the word of God.”
The prayers at the end of each chapter alone are worth the brief amount of time it will take you to read this book, and you'll probably get some other stuff out of it too. I'm quickly becoming a fan of Jim Cymbala's books.
"...more is less if God doesn't bless!" ~ Jim Cymbala (The Life God Blesses, Page 26, Paragraph 1)
Jim Cymbala shares secrets from the Word of God that show how we can get into the place of obtaining favour from God and being in the place of blessing.
One of the keys of favour is living a humble life. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble (See James 4:6). If we are humble we attract the favour of God.
This was a very moving, insightful, GOOD book. I don't usually get all into Christian books because it's not like going into a wardrobe and going to another world but it was strangely satisfying and I really enjoyed this book.
This is not some 'pray a prayer and get everything you want' book. It's an insightful look at the character of God. Cymbala mixes Old Testament figures (and interesting stories of their lives)with modern illustrations from his own ministry. A small, short book. Well worth the read.
Short, sweet and to the point. Identifies the characteristics of those who attract God's favour. Gives examples from the Bible as well as from more contemporary sources. Wide margins for note-taking.
